More than two years ago, the incident in which Chinese citizen Peng Zaizhou (real name Peng Lifa) hung anti-communist and anti-Xi banners at Sitong Bridge in Beijing caused a sensation, the anti-CCP tyranny effect triggered by the incident is still fermenting, and more and more people are following Peng Zaizhou's example. Today (15 April 2025), news broke on the Internet that an anti-communist banner was hung on an overpass in Chengdu, Sichuan, stating directly that "the people do not need a political party with unrestrained power."

Early in the morning of 15 April 2025, a photo began to circulate widely on the overseas X platform, showing three large banners with white background and red characters hanging from the viaduct at night. According to online news, the incident happened on the overpass outside the Chengdu Chadianzi Bus Station. The person who hung the banner said, "I have been preparing this slogan for a year. I hope you can help spread it."

X User Comments:

"In a country with the highest density of surveillance cameras, you are a true hero."

"I agree."

"Every word is true. The Chinese people have woken up."

"So far, no one has been able to surpass Peng Lifa in hanging slogans on bridges, either without sharp words or without the advantage of location."

"I just posted several times on WeChat Moments and they were all blocked. Is WeChat that fast?"

"The recruitment of bridge guards has been expanded, which will increase employment opportunities."

This incident was described as a replica of the Sitongqiao incident in Beijing.

During the three-year epidemic from 2020 to 2022, the zero-covid lockdown policy led by Xi Jinping brought disaster to the Chinese people. On 13 October 2022, the hero Peng Zaizhou hung banners on the Sitong Bridge in Zhongguancun, Beijing. One banner read, "We don't want nucleic acid testing, we want food! We don't want blockades, we want freedom! We don't want lies, we want dignity! We don't want the Cultural Revolution, we want reform! We don't want leaders, we want votes! We don't want to be slaves, we want to be citizens!" Another banner read, "Strike and remove the dictator and traitor Xi Jinping."

Peng Zaizhou called on soldiers and police nationwide to revolt in online propaganda materials: "The key point is to let soldiers, police, armed police and government officials receive the message. When faced with citizen protests, it is a more effective way to persuade them to participate. In the end, we hope that a general like Cai E will emerge to protect the country and completely drive the dictator out of power."

Despite the CCP’s internet-wide ban on the news, information related to the Peng Zaizhou incident quickly spread at home and abroad, and was known in history as the "Beijing Sitongqiao Incident."

The price Peng Zaizhou paid was being arrested, and his life or death is currently unknown but he inspired the awakening of conscience of many Chinese people. At the end of November 2022, historic protests against strict "zero-covid" measures broke out across the country. On Urumqi Middle Road in Shanghai, angry crowds shouted slogans such as "Xi Jinping step down" and "The Communist Party step down." The protest was seen as the trigger for Chinese authorities to suddenly cancel the policy in December of that year.

After the Sitongqiao incident, on 3 June 2023, outside the Beijing "Bird's Nest" National Stadium, a woman climbed up the tower, waved the American star-spangled flag and threw leaflets on the Declaration of Independence, and was hailed as a heroine and the second Peng Zaizhou. On 27 September 2023, a netizen took a photo of the four big words "End the Imperial System" on the Zhongshan Road overpass in Shijiazhuang. Moreover, these four big words do not look like they were newly sprayed on. They look like they have been there for a few days.

On the eve of National Day in 2023, slogans demanding freedom and democracy also appeared in Guangdong and other places.

On 30 July 2024, in Xinhua County, Loudi, Hunan, someone hung a Sitong Bridge slogan on the overpass in Xinhua County, Loudi, Hunan, and played loudly on a speaker, "We want freedom, we want democracy, we want votes! Strike and remove the dictator and traitor Xi Jinping." The person who hung the protest banner was reportedly a college student named Fang Yirong.

Since the Sitong Bridge incident in 2022, the Beijing authorities have hired people to watch the bridge on sensitive days and set up special stability maintenance posts for bridge watchers.

Before this year’s two sessions, on 2 March, Epoch Times reported that there were control and guard posts at intersections and bridges in Beijing’s Majuqiao and other places, and there were people patrolling the roads and buses.
