According to a report from Thailand's Headline News Agency, on 17 February 2024, Airports of Thailand (AOT) President Clardy revealed that AOT has launched a pilot project at Suvarnabhumi Airport to provide electric taxi services to airport passengers and users. The service includes setting up electric charging pile service stations in the long-term parking lot of Area E of Suvarnabhumi Airport to facilitate electric taxi users to charge. Suvarnabhumi Airport aims to become Thailand's first green airport and plans to achieve the operating goal of 1,000 electric taxis by 2024.
At present, many public taxi drivers have begun to pay attention to the trend of using electric taxis. In the initial stage, AOT installed DC Fast Charge wired electric vehicle charging stations in the long-term parking lot of Area E of Suvarnabhumi Airport. There are 16 charging piles with a charging power of 40kW/unit, and 2 charging stations with a charging power of 150kW/unit charging pile, and also supports taxi services to better promote the transformation of traditional taxis into electric taxis now and in the future.
In addition, DC fast charging piles are being installed at Suvarnabhumi Airport. These include 10 charging piles with a charging power of 360kW/unit and 2 charging piles with a charging power of 150kW/unit. These charging points are designed to support services for shuttle buses, buses and AOT vehicles. At the same time, AOT has also installed 7 electric vehicle charging stations in the Airside, Landside and Custom Free Zone areas. The move follows the global shift toward using clean energy to power vehicles and supports the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
Clardy said that AOT is responsible for the management of six major airports in Thailand, including Suvarnabhumi Airport, Don Mueang Airport, Chiang Mai Airport, Chiang Rai Airport, Phuket Airport and Hat Yai Airport. These airports have actively responded to the policies of Transport Minister Suriya and are committed to promoting cooperation in Thailand's transportation field to jointly build a low-carbon society. Therefore, AOT attaches great importance to community, social and environmentally friendly operations and hopes to transform Suvarnabhumi Airport into Thailand's first green airport.
In addition, AOT is committed to conducting business responsibly under good governance, taking into account social and environmental factors under good governance, and strives to become a "green airport" to promote the stable and sustainable development of the enterprise.
