On 20 January 2025, local time, President-elect Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, beginning his second presidential term.
The following is the full translation of Trump's inaugural address:
Thank you, thank you very much.
Vice President Vance, Speaker Johnson, Senator Thune, Chief Justice Roberts, the justices of the Supreme Court of the United States, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, President Biden, Vice President Harris, and my fellow Americans.
America's golden age begins now. From today, our country will prosper and once again win the respect of the world. All countries will envy us, and we will no longer let ourselves be taken advantage of. Every day of the Trump administration, I will put America first, it's that simple.
Our sovereignty will be restored. Our security will be restored. The scales of justice will be rebalanced. The malicious, violent, and unjust weaponization of the Department of Justice and our government will end. Our first priority is to build a free, prosperous, and proud country. America will soon be greater, stronger, and more extraordinary than ever before.
I return to the presidency with confidence and optimism because we are at the beginning of an exciting new era of national success, with waves of change sweeping across our country, sunshine shining across the globe, and America having an opportunity to seize this unprecedented opportunity. But first, we must be honest about the challenges we face. While they are many, they will be eclipsed by the great momentum the world is currently witnessing in the United States of America.
As we gather here today, our government faces a crisis of confidence. For years, a radical and corrupt establishment has extracted power and wealth from our citizens, while the pillars of our society have been broken and in disrepair.
Today, our government cannot even manage a simple crisis at home, while it continues to stumble into a series of catastrophic events abroad. It fails to protect our great, law-abiding American citizens, but provides shelter and protection to dangerous criminals, many of whom come from prisons and mental institutions and illegally enter our country from all over the world.
Our government provides unlimited funds to protect foreign borders, but refuses to protect America's borders, and more importantly, refuses to protect its own people.
Our country cannot even provide basic services in times of emergency. As recently demonstrated in North Carolina, where the good people are treated so badly. There are other states that are still suffering from the consequences of hurricanes from just a few months ago. More recently, in Los Angeles, we see fires that are still tragically burning today, weeks ago, without even a token defense. The fires have burned through homes and communities, even affecting some of the wealthiest and most powerful people in our country, some of whom are sitting right here at this moment. They are now homeless. It's interesting, but we can't let it happen. There's nothing anyone can do about it. This will change.
We have a public health system that cannot provide services in times of disaster, yet spends more money on it than any country anywhere in the world, and an education system that teaches our children to be ashamed of themselves, and in many cases, even to hate our country, even as we try desperately to provide them with love.
All of this will change from this day forward, and it will change very quickly.
I was recently elected with the mandate to completely reverse this terrible betrayal and all those that have occurred, and return to the people their trust, their wealth, their democracy, and their freedoms. From this moment on, America’s decline is over. Our freedoms and our nation’s glorious destiny will no longer be taken away, and we will immediately restore the integrity, competence, and loyalty of the American government.
Over the past eight years, I have been tested and challenged more than any president in our 250-year history, and I have learned a great deal along the way. The journey to reclaim our Republic has not been easy, I can tell you that. Those who wanted to stop our cause have tried not only to take my freedom, but in fact, they have tried to take my life. Just a few months ago, an assassin’s bullet ripped my ear open on a beautiful field in Pennsylvania, but I felt then, and believe even more now, that my life was saved for a reason, and that I was saved by God to make America great again.
Thank you, thank you very much.
That is why, every day of our American Patriot Government, we will strive to meet every crisis with dignity, strength, and power. We will act with a sense of purpose and speed to bring back hope, prosperity, security, and peace to every citizen of every race, religion, color, and creed. For the citizens of the United States, January 20, 2025 is Liberation Day.
I hope that our recent presidential election will be remembered as the greatest and most impactful in our nation's history. As our victory demonstrated, the nation is rapidly rallying behind our agenda, and we have seen remarkable growth in support at nearly every level of society, young and old, men and women, African Americans, Hispanics, Asian Americans, urban, suburban, and rural. And, very importantly, we won big in all seven swing states and won the popular vote by millions of votes.
To the Black and Hispanic communities, I want to thank you for the tremendous love and trust you have placed in me with your votes. We set a record that I will not forget. I heard your voices during the campaign, and I look forward to working with you in the months and years ahead.
Today is Mark Luther King Day, and it will be a great honor to honor him, but in his honor, we will work together to make his dream a reality. We will make his dream a reality.

At this moment, America is restoring national unity, and confidence and pride are soaring like never before. In all we do, my administration will be driven by an intense pursuit of excellence and a relentless drive for success. We will not forget our country, we will not forget our Constitution, and we will not forget our God. We must not forget.
Today, I will sign a series of historic executive orders. With these actions, we will launch a radical renewal and common sense revolution in America. It’s all about common sense.
First, I will declare a national emergency at our southern border. All illegal entry will be stopped immediately, and we will begin the process of deporting millions and millions of criminal illegal immigrants back to where they came from. I will restore the “Remain in Mexico” policy and end the practice of “catch and release.” I will send troops to the southern border to repel this devastating invasion of our country. With the orders I’m signing today, we will also designate drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. By invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, I will direct our government to use the full power of federal and state law enforcement to completely eliminate all foreign gangs and criminal networks that bring destructive crime to American soil—including in our cities and inner cities.
As Commander in Chief, my highest responsibility is to protect our nation from threats and invasions, and that is exactly what I will do. We will accomplish this mission with a force never seen before.
Next, I will instruct all members of my Cabinet to use the vast powers at their disposal to defeat record inflation and rapidly reduce costs and prices. This inflation crisis is caused by overspending and skyrocketing energy prices, so today I will also declare a National Energy Emergency. We will "Drill, baby, drill!"
America will once again become a manufacturing nation, and we have something no other manufacturing nation has - the largest reserves of oil and natural gas in the world, and we will use it. We will use it.
We will lower energy prices, fill our strategic reserves to the top again, and export American energy to the world.
We will once again become a wealthy nation, and the liquid gold beneath our feet will help us get there. By my actions today, we will end the Green New Deal, save our auto industry by rescinding the electric vehicle mandate, and make good on my sacred promise to the great American autoworkers.
In other words, you will be able to buy the car you want. We will once again build cars in America at a rate that no one could have imagined just a few years ago. Thank you to our nation's autoworkers for your inspiring vote of confidence. We did a great job earning their votes.
I will immediately begin a comprehensive overhaul of our trade system to protect American workers and families. Instead of enriching other countries by taxing our citizens, we will enrich our citizens by imposing tariffs and taxes on foreign countries.
To do this, we will establish an External Taxation Office that will be responsible for collecting all tariffs, taxes, and revenues. A huge amount of money will flow into our coffers from foreign countries. The American Dream will soon return and thrive like never before to restore the capacity and effectiveness of our federal government. My administration will establish a brand new Department of Government Efficiency.
After years of illegal and unconstitutional federal measures to restrict free speech, I will also sign an executive order to immediately stop all government censorship and bring free speech back to America.
Never again will the great power of the state be used to persecute political opponents - I know this. We will not allow this to happen again. It will not happen again. Under my leadership, we will restore fair, equal, and impartial justice under the Constitution and the rule of law.
We will return law and order to our cities.
This week, I will also end the government's attempt to impose race and gender into every aspect of public and private life through social engineering.
We will build a society where no one is judged by color, but by merit.
Starting today, it will be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders - male and female.
This week, I will reinstate with full back pay all service members who were unjustly discharged from the military for opposing the COVID vaccine mandate.
I will also sign an order prohibiting our warriors from being subject to radical political theories and social experiments while on duty. That will end immediately.
Our armed forces will be freed to focus on their only mission - defeating America's enemies.
Just as we did in 2017, we will once again build the strongest military in the world. We will measure our success not only by the battles we win, but also by the wars we end and, perhaps most importantly, the wars we never fight.
My proudest legacy will be as a peacemaker and unifier. That is what I want to be: a peacemaker and unifier. I am pleased to announce that just yesterday, the day before I took office, hostages in the Middle East were on their way home to their families.
America will be restored to its rightful place - as the greatest, most powerful, and most respected nation on Earth, inspiring awe and admiration around the world. Soon we will rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America, and we will restore the name of a mountain to the name of our great President William McKinley, Mount McKinley. That’s where it belongs, and that’s where it belongs.
President McKinley made our country very wealthy through tariffs and his wit. He was a born businessman and financed many of Theodore Roosevelt’s great achievements, including the Panama Canal. If you think about it, the United States spent more money on the Panama Canal than any other project ever, and lost 38,000 lives in its construction. We have been treated extremely unfairly by this foolish gift that should never have happened, and Panama’s commitment to us has been broken. The purpose of our agreement and the spirit of the treaty have been completely violated. American ships have been grossly overcharged and not treated fairly in any way, including the U.S. Navy. And to top it all off, China is running the Panama Canal. We didn’t give it to China, we gave it to Panama, and now we’re taking it back.
Most of all, what I want to say to Americans today is this: Now is the time to once again summon the courage, energy, and vitality of the greatest civilization in history. As we liberate our country, we will lead it to new heights of victory and success. We will not be intimidated. Together, we will end the epidemic of chronic disease and keep our children safe, healthy, and free from disease.
America will once again see itself as a nation that is still growing, a nation that increases our wealth, expands our territory, builds our cities, raises our aspirations, and plants our flag on a new and beautiful horizon. We will pursue our Manifest Destiny and reach for the stars, sending American astronauts to Mars and planting the Stars and Stripes there.
Ambition is the lifeblood of great nations, and at this moment, our nation is more ambitious than any other. There is no nation like ours. Americans are explorers, builders, innovators, entrepreneurs, and pioneers. The spirit of the frontier is written into our hearts. The call to the next great adventure resounds from the depths of our souls. Our American forefathers transformed a small group of colonies on the edge of a vast continent into a powerful republic made up of the most extraordinary citizens the world has ever seen. No one has come close.
Americans have traveled thousands of miles across rugged wilderness. They have crossed deserts, climbed mountains, braved countless dangers, conquered the Wild West, ended slavery, saved millions from tyranny, lifted billions out of poverty, mastered electricity, split the atom, launched a man into space, and held the entire universe of human knowledge in the palm of our hands. If we work together, there is nothing we cannot accomplish, no dream we cannot realize. Many thought I could not pull off such a historic political comeback, but as you can see today, I stand here, and the American people have spoken.
I stand here as living proof: Never believe something is impossible. In America, doing the impossible is our strength.
From New York to Los Angeles, from Philadelphia to Phoenix, from Chicago to Miami, from Houston to here in Washington, D.C., our country was built and established by generations of patriots who gave their all for our rights and our freedoms. They were farmers and soldiers, cowboys and factory workers, steelworkers and coal miners, policemen and pioneers. They kept pushing forward, forging ahead, never letting any obstacle defeat their spirit and pride. Working together, they laid railroads, built skyscrapers, constructed great highways, won two world wars, defeated fascism and communism, and triumphed over every challenge they faced.
Having come this far together, we now stand at the beginning of the greatest four years in American history. With your help, we will restore the promise of America and rebuild the country we love so much. We are one people, one family, and one great nation under God. So to every parent with a dream for their child, and to every child with a dream for the future: I am with you, I will fight for you, and I will win for you. And we will win like never before.

In recent years, our country has taken great suffering, but we will make it back and make it great again, greater than ever. We will be a nation like no other, one of compassion, courage, and excellence. Our strength will end all wars and bring a new spirit of solidarity to a world that is angry, violent, and utterly unpredictable. America will be respected again and admired again, including by people of faith and good will. We will be prosperous, we will be proud, we will be strong, and we will win as never before. We will not be conquered, we will not be intimidated, we will not be crushed, and we will not fail. From this day forward, the United States of America will be a free, sovereign, and independent nation. We will stand boldly, we will live proudly, we will dream boldly, and nothing will stop us, because we are Americans. The future is ours, and our golden age has just begun.
