The CCP recently disclosed for the first time that the reason for the long-term disappearance of nine senior military officers, including five generals, is "suspected of serious violations of discipline and law." These generals include commanders and political commissars of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Information Support Force. Netizens mocked CCP leader Xi Jinping as "Great Chopping Head."

On 17 April 2026, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of the Communist Party of China (CPC) released its second communique of the year. In its report on the qualifications of individual deputies, it was revealed for the first time that General Li Qiaoming, former commander of the Army; Admiral Shen Jinlong, former commander of the Navy; Admiral Qin Shengxiang, former political commissar of the Navy; General Yu Zhongfu, former political commissar of the Air Force; and General Li Wei, former political commissar of the Information Support Force, were all removed from their positions as NPC deputies in February due to "suspected serious violations of discipline and law."

Also removed from their NPC positions in February were Lieutenant General Wang Donghai, political commissar of the National Defense Mobilization Department of the Central Military Commission; General Bian Ruifeng, assistant director of the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission; Major General Ding Laifu, commander of the 73rd Group Army of the Army; and Major General Yang Guang, commander of the 64th Rocket Force Base. They were also accused of "suspected serious violations of discipline and law."

The report also disclosed that Zhou Xinmin, former chairman of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), Luo Qi, former chief engineer of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), and Liu Cangli, former president of the China Academy of Engineering Physics, were dismissed from their positions as delegates to the National People's Congress in February this year "for suspected violations of discipline and law."

In fact, the disappearance of a group of high-ranking CCP generals had already attracted attention several months earlier, and news of their downfall even circulated on several overseas social media accounts. The CCP's official announcement of the reasons for the "disappearance" of these generals only months later has once again sparked heated public debate.

On the overseas Chinese-language platform X, some netizens commented, "In a dictatorial and corrupt regime, no one can remain unscathed; it's rotten to the bone."

Some netizens even mocked Xi Jinping as "the great helmsman," a homophone for the CCP's past praise of Mao Zedong as a "great helmsman," and another new "title" given to Xi Jinping by the outside world after his internal purges.

Since Xi Jinping came to power, his accelerated leftward shift in policies has led to a sharp deterioration in the Chinese economy and escalating public discontent, resulting in a growing number of nicknames bestowed upon him by the outside world.

For example: Xi Baozi (mocking his populist displays at steamed bun shops), Chief Accelerator (satirizing his policies that accelerate China's decline), Emperor of Unfinished Projects (satirizing his numerous unfinished projects), Emperor of Zero-COVID (mocking his COVID-19 zero-COVID policy), Primary School Student Doctor (mocking his academic qualifications), etc.

Other nicknames include: Big Spender, Wheat Carrier, 200 Jin (a unit of weight), Xi the One, etc.

In February 2026, Yuan Hongbing, a legal scholar based in Australia familiar with the inner workings of the CCP bureaucracy, revealed to the foreign media outlet Visions of China that Xi Jinping, in addition to nicknames like "Xi Baozi" and "200 Jin Sack," has gained a new nickname in Beijing's official circles: "General Executioner." This means that Xi Jinping is an executioner who slaughters CCP generals.

According to incomplete statistics, Xi has promoted 81 generals since taking office, but purged 66, 57 of whom he personally promoted.

Independent commentator Cai Shenkun analyzed on the X platform that such a large-scale purge is unprecedented in the history of the CCP military. This practice of promoting and demoting simultaneously, essentially a complete overhaul, is a violent dismantling of the military's original power structure. The rank of general has become a high-risk profession, and the professional dignity and trust in the system among military leaders have suffered a devastating blow. The cost in potential future wars is incalculable.

Regarding Xi Jinping's internal purge, Yuan Hongbing quoted a source within the CCP system as saying, "The root cause lies in Xi Jinping's inner demons; he has fallen into a mental illness of paranoia."

Yuan Hongbing said that what frightens Xi Jinping most now is that those around him, his close advisors and confidants, are all two-faced, outwardly fawning upon him while privately mocking and despising him relentlessly. It is foreseeable that after this round of purges, and once the CCP's military leadership is rebuilt and perfected, new major cases will inevitably erupt soon, and another, even more brutal, purge within the military will certainly follow.
