The United States is preparing for the Global Democracy Summit, which is expected to be held online from 9 to 10 December 2021. The US State Department announced the list of participants on 23 November 2021. A total of 110 countries were invited to participate, including Taiwan, the United Kingdom and Japan. Other countries like CCP China, Russia and Vietnam are not on the list of invitations.
The US State Department announced in the evening of 23 November Eastern Time that the Biden-Harris administration had listed Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Japan and other countries as the 110 invited countries for the Democracy Summit but CCP China, Russia and Vietnam were not on the list.
The Global Democracy Summit is one of the events announced by U.S. President Biden during his presidential campaign in 2020. The purpose is to unite countries with the same ideas, work together to combat corruption and authoritarianism, and promote the development of human rights.
Bloomberg reported that the United States invited Taiwan to participate in the Democracy Summit. This move is intended to support partners in important regions but it risks angering CCP.
