Cathay Pacific confirmed that two cargo pilots were diagnosed with COVID-19 after arriving in Hong Kong from Frankfurt. The airline fully support the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to achieve the goal of zero infection in the community, and often remind the crew that they must strictly abide by relevant epidemic prevention measures, whether in Hong Kong or overseas.

Cathay Pacific management are currently conducting internal investigations into these cases to ensure the employees full compliance and the highest level of safety. If there are areas to be improved or compliance requirements are not fully met, we will take appropriate measures and actions in accordance with company procedures.

The management will strengthen the inspections at the outstations in real time to ensure that the crew members strictly abide by Cathay Pacific’s health and safety regulations when staying at the outstations.

Cathay Pacific will continue to work closely with the Transport and Housing Bureau and the health authorities to strengthen the protection of public health in Hong Kong. The airline will issue further guidelines to require crew members to undergo medical surveillance activities after returning to Hong Kong. The airline will also arrange for crew members to be tested for COVID-19 every day.

Maintaining the safety and health of customers, employees and communities has always been our top priority. All Cathay Pacific flights are performed by fully vaccinated crew members. All crew members must self-quarantine in designated hotel rooms when staying outside Hong Kong. They must also undergo frequent mandatory testing. This year, they have undergone more than 170,000 virus tests in Hong Kong (including multiple tests after every flight on duty). . To further protect Hong Kong’s public health, Cathay Pacific will require all qualified crew members to receive a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. We also actively recommend that all other Cathay Pacific employees get the third dose of vaccine as soon as possible.

Over the past two years, Cathay Pacific, our employees and the entire aviation industry have faced tremendous challenges. We express our heartfelt gratitude and respect to all employees, especially our frontline team and crew, who strictly abide by relevant epidemic prevention measures, professionalism and unremitting efforts during the epidemic. As a Hong Kong-based airline, Cathay Pacific is committed to maintaining and enhancing Hong Kong's status as an aviation hub. Despite the continuing challenges of the epidemic, Cathay Pacific continues to maintain the key connection between Hong Kong and the world's passenger and cargo transportation.

Hong Kong Airport will use "green zone" and "orange zone" to divide mainland and international flights, effective at 5 am of 15 November 2021

Image : Researcher's Picture

According to Hong Kong Commercial Daily News, the Hong Kong Airport Authority issued a notice on the 10th that the Airport Terminal 1 will separate mainland and non-mainland flights from 5 am next Monday (15th). Mainland flights will be "green" zone while non-mainland flights are referred to as the “Orange Zone” to separate relevant employees and passengers. Airlines and service contractors must set up dedicated teams to deal with them separately according to the flight area.

According to the notice, the departure and arrival floors in the restricted area of Passenger Terminal 1 will be divided into "green zone" and "orange zone" respectively. All registration counters in the lobby, including the Haitian Wharf, will be included in the "green zone" , And gates 1 to 24 in the restricted zone will handle all flights to and from the mainland, which are also "green zones." As for the "Orange Zone", it involves gates 25 to 71 in the restricted zone for handling other flights.

In terms of departure, passengers heading for mainland flights will be boarded within the "green zone"; passengers heading for non-mainland flights can enter the "orange zone" from the "green zone" for boarding. As for transit passengers, connecting from the Mainland to an international flight can only go to the departure layer through the "E1 Transit Check Channel"; from a non-mainland flight to other non-mainland flights, they can only go to the departure layer via the "W1 Transit Check Channel". Passengers can only move or board the plane within the designated area, and cannot go to another area.

The AA requires airlines and service contractors to set up dedicated teams to handle flights in the two regions separately, and formulate a rotation schedule to isolate the changing facilities, lounges and other facilities used by the dedicated teams to avoid contact with each other. "Green Zone" employees should stay in the "Green Zone" when providing services to avoid entering the "Orange Zone", and "Orange Zone" employees are not allowed to enter the "Green Zone" during their duty. Airport employees should avoid entering the "Orange Zone" unless necessary, and avoid contact with passengers, crew and staff while staying in the "Orange Zone".

In order to cope with the above arrangement, the AA will adjust the service hours of the passenger rapid transit system, staff passages, transit inspection passages, restricted staff dining areas and rest facilities. In addition, designated waiting areas for transit or transit crews will be relocated, airline service counters will be set up in the Orange District, and some staff toilets will only be used by airport staff who do not touch passengers.

Chu Hansong, director-general of the Airport Air Transport Staff Association, said that the new measures are designed to resume normal customs clearance with the mainland, and the AA is also discussing how to implement it with different companies. He pointed out that the relevant arrangements inevitably put pressure on manpower deployment. Employees in the "green zone" can enter the "orange zone", but employees in the "orange zone" cannot enter the "green zone." Moreover, the locker room, lounge and other facilities must be separated, and it will be difficult to adapt to the initial stage. In addition, even if employees work in “orange zone” and “green zone”, they still have the opportunity to get in touch with each other and cause transmission. The union has reported the problem to the company and hopes that the authorities will announce more detailed arrangements and arrangements after communicating with the operators to provide more disinfection equipment to fill the loopholes.

Work hard and never waver

In 30 years, a seemingly simple number is behind the unshakable "initial aspiration for safety" of Guihang people.

Guizhou is located in the southwest corner. Since ancient times, the topography of mountains and ravines has restricted transportation and economic development. On November 12, 1991, with the expectation and attention of 38 million people in Guizhou, Guizhou Airlines officially made its maiden flight. On the same day, the company flew the G4301 flight from Guiyang to Guilin with Yun-7B3449. The short 380-kilometer voyage was the "first step" for Guizhou Airlines to start a safe flight and realized the long-cherished wish of the people of Guizhou to take off.

"At the beginning of the establishment of Guiyang Airlines, both planes were of the Yun-7 model. The newly recruited pilots only flew the Yun-5 transport aircraft or bombers, and the captain could not fly solo. What should I do? The big guys have to hurry up and train and Learn business skills, learn to eat, learn before going to bed, and continue to learn as soon as you open your eyes. Whether it is windy or rainy, you must complete the flight training mission on time. The new term is called'immersive' to endure hardship, which can be said to be very Fighting.” When it comes to the difficulties of starting a business and sailing, many old Guihang people still remember it.

Relying on this "struggle", the people of Guizhou Airlines have worked hard and hard-from the fleet size of only two YUN-7s to now has 20 Boeing 738 passenger planes, the company has reached the size of a medium-sized airline.

The number of pilot crew has increased from 7 captains to 191 pilots, including 100 captains, 91 co-pilots, 3 meritorious pilots, 10 gold pilots, and 11 silver pilots.

From only Y7 aircraft route maintenance to engines replacement, blade replacement, and maintenance levels below C inspection (excluding C inspection), Guizhou Airlines have grown to have the line maintenance capabilities of B737NG, A319/320/321, A330-200/300 and 737MAX models. The Guizhou Airlines team has become the first "hard-core team" in Guizhou Province with B737 C2 inspection and maintenance capabilities... they have adhered to the general tone of "seeking progress while maintaining stability", achieving a substantial increase in safety assurance capabilities and improving the safety management system.

Although the heart is bitter, the mad sand is blown out before the gold is reached.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) will receive eight Boeing 737-8MAX aircraft in the second half of the fiscal year 2021/22 by the end of March 2022.

Singapore Airlines held a media/analyst performance report on 12 November and revealed the news. Singapore Airlines has confirmed in May that it will take over the eight Boeing 737-8MAX aircraft in the fiscal year of 2021/22 but Singapore has not lifted the ban on the aircraft at that time. Some market observers speculated that Singapore Airlines plans to let these eight aircraft be in service before the end of March 2022.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) re-allowed Boeing's 737MAX aircraft to take off and land in Singapore two months ago. This is believed to be the lifting of CAAS’s ban on this passenger aircraft for nearly two and a half years, and Singapore Airlines has revealed for the first time the expected service time (fiscal year) of the eight Boeing 737-8MAX aircraft it has not received.

Singapore Airlines currently has six Boeing 737-8MAX aircraft (originally a SilkAir passenger aircraft).

Two doses of Medigen vaccines "antibody concentration rises". Doctor warning: Increased risk of myocarditis

Editor : Chen Xijie. / Image : Medigen's MVC COVID-19 Vaccine (MVC-COV1901), Dr Su Yifeng. (Photo/TVBS, reproduced from Su Yifeng Facebook)

The Central Epidemic Command Centre announced on 12 November 2021 that people, who have been vaccinated with Medigen and have an urgent need to go abroad, can add relevant certification documents to the internationally certified AZ , BNT or Moderna vaccine.

Su Yifeng, a thoracic surgeon from the Yangming Branch of the Taipei City United Hospital, reminded that if a person is fully vaccinated with Medigen vaccine MVC-COV1901, two additional doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine (Comirnaty) or Moderna vaccine may increase the risk of myocarditis.

In response, the command centre spokesperson Zhuang Renxiang responded that the mechanism of MVC-COV1901 is different from that of other vaccines. "It is unlikely that this will happen."

Su Yifeng pointed out that after the Comirnaty and Moderna are administered, the antibody concentration is high, the immune response is strong, and there is a higher chance of myocarditis. After receiving two Medigen doses and then vaccinating two doses of Comirnaty or Moderna the antibody concentration can be expected to rise to an extremely high level,  "The risk of myocarditis may also be higher."  This part of the statement has not been confirmed. Su Yifeng emphasized that it is of course difficult to have medical evidence. After all, this is a new attempt.

No one has done any research and analysis for reference, and can only infer from the experience of the past two doses of mRNA vaccines, but it is clear that after the vaccine is administered, young people have high antibodies and high risks, and four doses of antibodies will make it worse.

Zhuang Renxiang said at the epidemic press conference that Medigen protein subunit vaccines are different from other mRNA or adenovirus vectors, and they need to be given 28 days apart. Generally, myocarditis occurs in young men, and the probability of the second dose is also higher. It is recommended that people pay close attention to whether they have related symptoms within 7 days after the second dose, and seek medical advice at any time.

Deadly game of cats and mouse in the skies of Europe

RAF fighter pilots and heavy US bombers have taken to the skies above the North Sea in a show of strength as tensions in Eastern Europe threaten to spill over.

British Typhoons and F35 Lightning jets teamed up with US B1 and B52 bombers in a joint military exercise dubbed Operation Point Blank this week.

The US air force said the mission showed its 'commitment to work closely with our allies and partners to deter any potential adversary from aggressive actions.'

The exercise came as a pair of Russian nuclear bombers forced the RAF to defend British airspace over the North Sea on Friday.

The Typhoons were scrambled from Lossiemouth, Scotland, and Coningsby, Lincolnshire, along with a refuelling jet from Brize Norton, Oxfordshire as British troops were deployed at the Polish border amid a Kremlin-backed migrant crisis.

The two Russian Tu-160 'White Swan' bombers entered 'the UK area of interest,' the MoD confirmed, without giving further details, as photographs show the RAF jets escorting the bombers.

The Kremlin warplanes approached Dutch airspace before being intercepted by the RAF and were seen heading north into international airspace over the North Sea at around 12.45pm, according to Mil Radar.

Speaking on Saturday,  Russian President Vladimir Putin said he considered recent Black Sea exercises by US and other NATO ships as a serious challenge.

'The United States and its allies in NATO are carrying out unplanned exercises in the Black Sea. Not only is a rather powerful naval group involved in these exercises, but also aviation, including strategic aviation. This is a serious challenge for us,' he said in an interview with Russian state broadcaster Vesti.

The incursion came with Europe at battle stations, as Putin is backing a 'hybrid war' using migrants to sow chaos at Poland's border while sending tens of thousands of troops to the frontier with Ukraine for a possible invasion.

And Putin was warned against making a 'serious mistake' after America said satellite images of troops suggested Russia could be planning to invade.

But in the interview on Saturday, Putin said he had nothing to do with the migrant crisis on close ally Belarus's border with the European Union.
