Turn loss into profit! Thai Airways first three quarters net profit 51 billion baht

Foreign media disclosed at the beginning of the month that Thai Airways International will sell 42 aircraft to reduce operating costs and reduce financial deficits. However, the latest news pointed out that the net profit of this flagship airline from January to September 2021 reached 51.115 billion Baht.

The Bangkok Post reported that a member of the business restructuring plan team responsible for supervising Thai Airways’ execution of the legal decision, Piyasvasti Amranand pointed out on the 15th that Thai Airways’ ability to turn losses into profit is mainly due to the debt restructuring plan, which contains assets. Sales, organization of personnel transformation and other measures, etc.

Phiyawati said that Thai Airways has solid financial security and sufficient cash flow to maintain operations before obtaining new loans. He said this loan is crucial to maintaining the progress of the business restructuring.

It is understood that Thai Airways is still waiting to see whether the Ministry of Finance, one of the company's major shareholders, will provide financial assistance.

But Finance Minister Ahkong said last week that Thai Airways should only need 25 billion baht loans to improve financial liquidity, instead of the 50 billion baht previously estimated; and Thai Airways must make a decision on the method of borrowing, and the ministry does not need to provide loans. guarantee.

Phiyawati said that if there is no guarantee loan from the Ministry of Finance, one of the solutions to the company’s funding gap is to convert debt into equity worth 13 billion. Without the above-mentioned debt-to-capitalization process and no secured loans, the Ministry of Finance’s shareholding in Thai Airways would be significantly reduced from the current 48% to 8%.

Phiyawati said that so far this year, Thai Airways has performed fairly well. Its passenger and cargo revenues totaled 1.2 billion Baht last month, of which up to 90% came from the cargo business. This is the highest monthly income of Thai Airways since the outbreak of the new crown disease in Thailand early last year.

In addition, Thailand has loosened entry and anti-epidemic controls from the 1st of this month, which is expected to boost air traffic demand. In the first 10 days of the reopening, the number of international arrivals increased from about 300 per day before November 1 to 750.

Piyawati believes that if there is no more serious epidemic in the future, he predicts that Thai Airways will have at least 50 billion baht in revenue next year.

Matichon News.com reported that according to Thai Stock Exchange information provided by Thai Airways on the same day, the net profit of Thai Airways and its subsidiaries in the first nine months of 2021 totaled 51.115 billion Baht, compared with a loss of 49.561 billion Baht year-on-year.

At the same time, the International Air Transport Association conducted a survey on the chief financial officers and cargo managers of airlines in early October, and the results showed that airline profitability continued to improve in the third quarter.

The vast majority of interviewees said that compared with the same period in 2020, passenger and freight volumes in the third quarter of 2021 have improved. They are optimistic about the profitability in the next 12 months, and expect that the business volume of passenger and cargo transportation will increase in the future.

My Indo Airlines delivers BioKangtai vaccine to Jakarta

At 7 am on 19 November 2021, an all-cargo plane carrying Shenzhen Kangtai's BioKangtai covi vaccine departed from Shenzhen for Indonesia. This was the first COVID-19 outbound charter flight guaranteed by Shenzhen Airport, and it was also the first time Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products Co., Ltd. produced and exported the vaccine directly from Shenzhen Airport to overseas for the first time, helping the world fight the epidemic.

The adenovirus vector recombinant covi vaccine is in more than 4 million doses and weighs 15 tons, which was carried by My Indo Airlines.

Vaccines have stringent requirements for transportation timeliness and storage safety, and they are aviation-preferred transportation goods. In order to ensure the safety of air transportation of this type of cargo, the International Civil Aviation Organization (IATA) has formulated industry standards that comply with the air transportation supply chain of pharmaceuticals, and regulates the handling standards of pharmaceutical transportation and storage.

In 2020, Shenzhen Airport formally obtained the CEIV Pharma certification issued by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), becoming the third mainland airport to pass the certification after Beijing and Shanghai. It is capable of transporting biotechnology products. The protection capability. This transportation guarantee is also the first time that Shenzhen Airport has obtained the qualification to carry the covi vaccine transportation guarantee task.

According to the airport, BioKangtai vaccine uses passive temperature-controlled packaging, which requires high protection for the entire process, and the entire transportation process must be strictly maintained in the temperature control range of 2-8 degrees Celsius. In order to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of vaccines, Shenzhen Airport has formulated the covi vaccine transportation guarantee plan, and upgraded the cold chain transportation and storage facilities, and used visual temperature monitors to monitor the temperature of the vaccine throughout the process to ensure the transportation quality of the covi vaccine.

Earlier this month, Indonesia formally granted emergency use authorization for the recombinant adenovirus vector COVID-19 vaccine produced by Shenzhen Kangtai Biological Products Co., Ltd. This is China’s second and Guangdong Province’s first adenovirus vector covi vaccine approved for emergency use overseas. This is why Kangtai is currently the only vaccine company in the world that has two different technical routes approved for emergency use of the covi vaccine.

"Shenzhen Airport's comprehensive route network and professional capabilities in vaccine transportation guarantee will help us to better contribute to the global fight against the epidemic in Shenzhen in the future. I believe that more Shenzhen Kangtai vaccines will be exported from Shenzhen Airport in the future." Zhang Qian, general manager of Shenzhen Kangtai International Business Department, said.

In recent years, Shenzhen Airport has continued to improve its air cargo supply capacity and service level, continuously optimize port functions, enrich port business formats, and achieve two "full coverage" of special cargo guarantee certification qualifications and cross-border e-commerce business models.

Good logistics ecology and support capabilities have made Shenzhen Airport an important freight hub in the Greater Bay Area, contributing to the stability of the global supply chain under the epidemic, and strongly supporting various enterprises in Shenzhen and surrounding areas to go global and sell globally. "Shenzhen has a large number of biopharmaceutical industries.

"The Chinese vaccines produced by these biopharmaceuticals have played an important role in the global fight against the epidemic. Shenzhen Airport also has an excellent level of air cargo protection. We believe that the air cargo service of Shenzhen Airport can provide vaccine transportation quality providing a reliable guarantee." said Mohamed Ishak, CEO of My Indo Airlines.

It is reported that in the early stage, My Indo Airlines opened the "Shenzhen-Singapore-Jakarta" all-cargo route at Shenzhen Airport. This flight is the first vaccine flight after the opening of the route, which will help to further promote the transportation and cooperation of medical supplies worldwide, especially in the ASEAN region, and accelerate the exchange and development of cross-border logistics between China and Southeast Asia.
