The origins of the CCP’s “Taiwan independence” theory

As early as before the October 1917 coup, Lenin had the concept of "socialist revolution and the right of national self-determination." Later, he even more clearly stated that in order to shake the foundation of imperialism, colonial revolution must be spawned and colonial independence promoted.
At that time, Lenin's purpose in proposing these theories was to hope that "all oppressed nations" around the world would rise up and carry out violent revolutions and pursue independence, so that imperialism would lose sight of one thing. In this way, the pressure on Soviet Russia, the only country in the world governed by a communist party, will be reduced.
Lenin claimed that the small and weak nations in the colonies ruled by imperialism were subjected to national oppression by imperialism and class oppression by their own bourgeoisie, and they should complete the dual revolution of class and nation at the same time.
So, how can these weak and small nations complete the dual revolution?
In 1919, Lenin advocated the establishment of an international organization of the Communist Party, the Communist International. One of the important tasks of this organization is to control the small and weak ethnic groups in the colonies to establish communist parties; then these communist parties will take the lead in fighting for independence and launching a communist revolution.
Under the control of the Comintern, the Communist Party of China, the Communist Party of Korea, the Communist Party of Japan, the Communist Party of Taiwan, and so on, were successively established. This is where "Taiwan independence" comes from.
After having a theoretical basis, the CCP began to take action. There are at least five pieces of evidence that it advocated "Taiwan independence" back then.
Evidence 1: The CCP drafted its first "Taiwan independence" platform
On 12 December 1927, Bukharin, a member of the Executive Committee of the Comintern, instructed the Communist Party of Japan to help establish the "Taiwan National Branch of the Communist Party of Japan" (also known as the Communist Party of Taiwan), because Taiwan was a colony of Japan at the time.
By 1928, as the Japanese police carried out the "March 15" raids on the Japanese Communist Party, the Japanese Communist Party had no time to guide the establishment of the Communist Party of Taiwan, so it asked the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for support.
After taking over the task, the CCP made a series of preparatory work. One of them is to preside over the drafting of the first "Taiwan Independence" party platform.
On 14 April 1928, the preparatory meeting for the establishment of the Communist Party of Taiwan was held in Shanghai. Who takes the lead? There are currently three theories circulating. One is that it was proposed by Peng Rong, a representative of the CPC Central Committee, another is said to be Qu Qiubai, chairman of the Provisional Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, and another is said to be Ren Bishi, a member of the Provisional Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. Eleven people including Peng Rong, Taiwanese Lin Mushun and Xie Xuehong who had trained at Moscow Oriental University attended the meeting.
On 15 April 1928, Peng Rong, Xie Xuehong, Lin Mushun and others formally held the founding meeting of the Communist Party of Taiwan on the second floor of a photo studio on Xiafei Road in the French Concession in Shanghai.
The political program of the Taiwan Communist Party adopted by the congress clearly proposed "Taiwan's national independence and the establishment of the Republic of Taiwan." The Communist Party of Taiwan became the first political group in Taiwan's history to advocate "Taiwan independence."
Taiwan was ceded to Japan in 1895 after the Qing government collapsed in the Sino-Japanese War of 1895-1895. By 1928, Taiwan was still under Japanese occupation. At that time, China's legal government was the Republic of China. Not only did the Taiwan Communist Party not propose that Taiwan must return to the Republic of China, but their idea of "Taiwan independence" was established under the direct guidance of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
Evidence 2: The "Outline of the Constitution of the Soviet Republic of China" supports "Taiwan Independence"
On 7 November 1931, when Japan invaded the three northeastern provinces of China and faced a national crisis, the Chinese Communist Party, with the support of the Comintern, established a "state within a state" - the Chinese Soviet Republic in Ruijin, Jiangxi Province, within the territory of the Republic of China.
Article 14 of the so-called "Outline of the Constitution of the Chinese Soviet Republic" stipulates:
"The Chinese Soviet regime recognizes the right of national self-determination of the ethnic minorities within China, and has always recognized the right of all small and weak ethnic groups to break away from China and establish their own independent countries. Mongols, Hui, Tibetans, Miao, Li, Koreans, etc., all people living in All countries within China have the complete right to self-determination: to join or leave the Chinese Soviet Federation, or to establish their own autonomous regions."
This outline of the constitution does not clarify whether Taiwan is within "Chinese territory" but judging from the original meaning of this provision, if Mongolia becomes independent, Xinjiang becomes independent, Tibet becomes independent... all ethnic minorities in China become independent, the CCP will support it.
Accordingly, the Chinese Communist Party certainly recognizes that the Taiwanese people living on the island of Taiwan who are still under Japanese rule have the complete right to national self-determination and the right to establish their own independent country.
Evidence 3: Mao Zedong supports "Taiwan independence"
According to "Red Star over China" written by American journalist Edgar Snow, on 16 July 1936, in Yan'an, Snow asked Mao Zedong: "Do the Chinese people want to start from China?" Recover all lost territory from the Japanese imperialists?”
Mao replied: "We must not only defend our sovereignty south of the Great Wall, but also recover all our lost territories. This means that Manchuria must be recovered. But we do not include China's former colony, Korea. When we recover China's lost territories, we will achieve independence. In other words, for the people of Taiwan who were under the rule of Japanese imperialism at that time, as long as they wanted to be independent, the CCP supported their "fight for independence."
After the Anti-Japanese War ended in 1945, the Republic of China took over Taiwan.
In 1947, the "228 Incident" broke out in Taiwan. "Liberation Daily" published Mao Zedong's "support for Taiwan independence" remarks on 8 March. Mao's radio speech in Yan'an said: "We, the armed forces led by the Communist Party of China, fully support the Taiwanese people in their struggle against Chiang Kai-shek and the Kuomintang. We are in favor of Taiwan's independence, and we are in favor of Taiwan establishing a country of its own requirements."
Evidence 4: Party media agrees with Taiwan’s independence
On 1 May 1945, the Communist Party of China's Communist Party newspaper "Liberation Daily" published "Congratulatory Messages from Party Members from Taiwan and Other Countries Staying in Yan (An) to the Seventh National Congress of the Communist Party of China."
It was specifically mentioned that the "Taiwan and other countries" that issued the congratulatory message include: Taiwan, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaya, Netherlands, India, and Burma.
