According to foreign media reports, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore announced that it will gradually implement passport-free customs clearance at Changi Airport from 5 August 2024.
The ICA issued a statement saying that this is part of the authorities' plan to strengthen border security. While digitalizing customs clearance, it also improves the travel experience of passengers. Under the new customs clearance concept, all Singapore residents and eligible foreign passengers do not need to show physical passports. They only need to scan biometric authentication information such as face and iris to automatically pass customs.
By September 2024, all terminals at Changi Airport will gradually implement passport-free customs clearance, and the Marina Bay Cruise Centre will gradually implement this plan before December. This will save passengers 40% of customs clearance time.
