On 19 June 2022, a SpiceJet flight from Patna, the capital of eastern Bihar province, to Delhi, caught fire in the left engine during the flight, and was forced to turn back. 185 passengers on board were evacuated safely.

A passenger told AFP reporters that loud noises could be heard for 15 minutes after the plane took off. "The captain announced that there was a problem and he was going back to Patna. It was terrible."

Local county magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh told reporters, "On the ground, people noticed the fire on the left wing of the plane and notified airport officials. All 185 passengers disembarked safely. The cause of the fire was a technical failure, and the engineering team is analyzing it." (click to watch related video)
