According to the mainland media "Tianmu News", a 34-year-old woman "Tina" from Qingdao, Shandong, China bought the uninhabited island "Yanaha Island" in the north of Okinawa Main Island three years ago. On 3 February 2023, she finally bought it for the first time. Going to the island, she excitedly recorded the video PO and shared it with netizens on social media.

Plans to develop Chinese tourism projects on uninhabited Japanese island

Tina, whose family runs real estate and finance, said that the island was purchased in the name of her family’s company. The starting price of the island was originally RMB 600,000 (about NT$2.66 million). The purchase unit is U.S. dollars and it is not convenient to disclose the specific amount, and it is planned to be used for vacation or to cooperate with others to "develop tourism projects in the future.”

Japanese media are worried Yanaha Island bought by Chinese capital will cause national security problems

The purchase of the uninhabited island has attracted the attention of Japanese media. Since Yanaha Island is located in the northwest of Okinawa Main Island, it is only about 60 km away from Kadena Air Force Base, the U.S. base in Okinawa in Japan. The distance is quite close, but it was bought by mainland Chinese capital, which made the outside world worry about it.

Japanese government will pay close attention to the situation development

In this regard, Hiroichi Matsuno pointed out that "Yanaha Island" is not an outlying island with a territorial sea baseline, nor is it an inhabited island in an outlying island area, so it is not subject to the jurisdiction of the relevant land survey laws. However, he emphasized that the government will still pay close attention to the situation development.

美军击落第4个不明飞行物 官员透露:呈“八角形”

In the afternoon of Sunday (12 February 2023), US President Biden ordered the military to shoot down an "unidentified object" over Lake Huron near the Canadian border. It is the fourth flying object to be shot down. U.S. officials said the object was "octagonal in shape".

The Pentagon said in a statement that Biden ordered U.S. F-16 fighter jets to shoot down an "unidentified flying object" over Lake Huron near the Canadian border on Sunday. The flying object is the same object found over Montana on the 11th. It was the fourth UFO shot down this month.

A senior administration official told CNN on the same day that the "octagonal" object was flying at 20,000 feet (about 6,100 meters) over Michigan when it was about to fly over Lake Huron and was destroyed by the Sidewinder missile.

Two other U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Reuters the object had recently been spotted over Montana, prompting the closure of U.S. airspace. The military declined to say whether it was similar to the first large white Chinese Communist spy balloon that was shot down.

After the fourth unidentified object was shot down, Rep. Elissa Slotkin, Democrat of Michigan, tweeted that the operation to shoot down objects over Lake Huron was carried out by pilots from the U.S. Air Force and National Guard.

"Great job to all who were in the air and at headquarters on this mission. We are all intrigued by what this object is and what it is for," wrote Lotkin.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer tweeted: "Our National Safety & Security is always a top priority. I have been in touch with the Federal Government & partners who are tracking an object near our airspace . I am pleased that it has been removed quickly, safely and securely."

Prior to this, the U.S. military had shot down three UFOs in a row. On the 11th, under the joint authorization of Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, an American F-22 fighter jet shot down an unknown cylindrical object over Yukon, Canada.

"The remains of this object are being recovered and analyzed," Trudeau said on Twitter.

On 10 February, Biden ordered another unidentified object to be shot down off the northern coast of Alaska. However, the United States did not disclose what the object is, which country it belongs to, and what mission it is performing.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer told ABC News on Sunday that U.S. national security official Sullivan said the two high-altitude objects shot down over the northern U.S. and Canada were balloons, but they were worse than the one shot down over the Atlantic by China a week ago. The spy balloon is much smaller.

A week ago, the U.S. military shot down a giant CCP spy balloon in the waters near South Carolina for the first time. It was found that the balloon was equipped with equipment to collect intelligence signals, and it was confirmed that it was part of the CCP’s large-scale military espionage plan targeting more than 40 countries around the world.

The CCP Ministry of Foreign Affairs has always claimed that a "civilian balloon" strayed into the US airspace.

The Pentagon said it had recovered a large portion of the wreckage of the downed balloon, suggesting the U.S. may soon have more information about CCP China's use of balloons for espionage.

The U.S. government has added six Chinese entities suspected of being involved in spy balloons to an export blacklist, restricting technology exports to them.

Current affairs commentator Wang He told NTDTV, "The United States has a very clear grasp of China's scientific and technological intelligence. Then its actions are also very ruthless, and it is a slap in the face for the CCP. Its sanctions itself are very serious for the CCP. The psychological deterrent and its political implications are very large."

Shooting down flying objects for the 4th time in the United States: Flying close to the border of the United States and Canada, suspected of having reconnaissance capabilities

The U.S. military shot down a flying object over Lake Huron near the U.S.-Canada border in the afternoon of 12 February which was the fourth such interception by U.S. fighter jets in February. The Pentagon pointed out that the object is estimated to have flown close to a sensitive U.S. military base and has potential reconnaissance capabilities.

The U.S. Department of Defense stated in the evening that at the suggestion of Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and the order of President Joe Biden, the U.S. military dispatched an F-16 fighter jet at 2.42 pm to shoot down a flying object over Lake Huron, with no indication of any casualties.

The Ministry of Defense pointed out that the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) detected the object this morning at an altitude of about 20,000 feet; Reconnaissance capabilities pose a threat to the United States.

The Department of Defense further analyzed the flight path and data, and deduced that the object had flown close to sensitive U.S. military facilities. The U.S. military will salvage fragments of the wreckage to learn more about the object.

This is the fourth time the U.S. military has shot down a flying object over North America this month. Prior to this, a Chinese reconnaissance balloon violated U.S. airspace for the first time on 28 January north of the Aleutian Islands in Alaska, and the U.S. military sent a military plane to shoot it down over the Atlantic Ocean on 4 February.

In addition, the U.S. military also shot down another unidentified object over Alaska in the afternoon of 10 February but the source of this object is still unclear; on 11 February, it shot down another unidentified object over Canada.

The United States shot down flying objects three times. Scholars: Will urge countries to resist the Communist Party

Reporters : Xia Dunhou and Liu Fang / https://www.ntdtv.com/gb/2023/02/12/a103647791.html

The U.S. military has shot down flying objects over the United States and Canada three times recently. After the first shot down of the CCP’s spy balloon, the U.S. confirmed that it was part of the CCP’s military espionage plan targeting multiple countries. According to the analysis of scholars, all countries will take the initiative to unite against the Communist Party for their own national security.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted on Saturday (11 February 2023) that the unidentified flying object "violated Canadian airspace," Canadian and American planes were scrambled, and a U.S. F22 fighter jet shot it down. The Canadian Forces will recover the wreckage and analyze it.

This is the third time the U.S. military has shot down a high-altitude flying object recently. On Friday (10th), the military shot down an unidentified flying object flying over Alaska, USA. Last Saturday, the U.S. military shot down a CCP spy balloon for the first time in the waters near South Carolina, and found that the balloon was equipped with equipment to collect intelligence signals.

Zhang Tianliang, associate professor of the Department of Humanities at Feitian University in the United States: "Especially this time the CCP released this fleet of surveillance balloons. It is not only aimed at the United States. All those countries that are under surveillance may unite. In the past, the United States may have led the way. These countries fought against the CCP, and now these countries may take the initiative to resist the CCP out of their own national security considerations.”

The U.S. government has added six Chinese entities suspected of ties to the spy balloon program to an export blacklist. The United States will restrict technology exports to them.

Epoch Times columnist Wang He: "The United States has a very clear grasp of China's scientific and technological intelligence. Then its actions are also very vicious, and it is a slap in the face for the CCP. Its sanctions itself have a strong impact on the CCP's psychology. Deterrence-wise, the political implications of it are very large."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Communist Party of China has always insisted that it was a civilian balloon that strayed into the airspace of another country, but it has never been able to answer what kind of equipment the balloon is equipped with and which entity owns it.

China has no airspace for civil aviation stray balloons for the airspace is dominated by the military

China has no airspace for civil aviation stray balloons, and the balloon incident is full of mysteries. The U.S. and CCP military made a big fuss.and have they achieved the same effect? Pinnacle View discusses.

In the United States, the airspace below 6,000 m is free and open. People can take off their aircraft as long as they do not approach the airport. In China, there is no civil aviation airspace, and all airspace is controlled by the CCP military. China's meteorological agencies are also controlled by the military. There are no so-called civil weather balloons. High-altitude balloons built with modern technology can stay in the air at a height of up to 40,000 m, can navigate, and can accurately control the flight. This kind of balloon moves slowly and is not easy to be detected by radar. It stays in the air for a longer time than satellites and has certain advantages in collecting intelligence. The U.S.-China confrontation is heating up in an all-round way. There are multiple considerations behind the U.S. shooting down the CCP spy balloon.

News: CCP issued a statement on the balloon incident, which was approved by Xi

The news of the CCP’s spy balloons appearing over the United States shocked the world. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that in the process of U.S. diplomats quietly negotiating with Beijing about the balloon incident, China issued a rare statement of regret that was approved by Xi Jinping.

WSJ quoted Chinese officials with knowledge of the situation as saying that after communicating with Washington on 1 February that the CCP spy balloon was found over Montana, senior officials of the CCP's Ministry of Foreign Affairs hurriedly tried to verify the news.

With U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken planning to visit China at the time and meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, the last thing Beijing wanted was an international event that jeopardized the visit, the officials said. Blinken's visit to China represents the highest-level U.S. visit to China in five years.

Beijing surprised by the balloon "Whose balloon is this?"

In the evening of 1 February, Blinken and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman  notified Xu Xueyuan, the charge d'affaires ad interim of the CCP Embassy in the United States, about the discovery of the Chinese spy balloon by the United States. U.S. State Department officials told China that the Biden-Harris administration will issue a public statement.

In the afternoon of 2 February, the U.S. Department of Defense held a press conference announcing the discovery of a CCP spy balloon in the sky. Before the press conference that day, many American media broke the news through various channels.

The WSJ reported that people familiar with the matter said that Xu Xueyuan and other CCP embassy officials were surprised by the U.S. information about the balloon.

A pressing question at the time, Chinese officials said, was, "Whose balloon is this?"

In the hours that followed, there was coordination between the Chinese Foreign Ministry and other government departments, and the statement that was finally released was signed by Xi Jinping. The statement said that the balloon was used for climate research and deviated from its course, and China regretted the incident.

The CCP Foreign Ministry issued the statement on the morning of 3 February, nearly 36 hours after Beijing first learned of the incident.

Huari said the announcement was unusually conciliatory by Beijing's standards, but it still did not stop Blinken from abandoning his trip to China.

Pentagon says CCP's military has fleet of spy balloons

The Pentagon refuted CCP's so-called civilian balloons and accurately stated that they were a fleet of spy balloons related to the CCP military.

U.S. officials said they did not know whether Beijing originally intended for the balloon to fly south over the U.S. heartland after venturing over Alaska. If true, such a move would be an act of provocation.

One possibility they considered was whether the wind might have blown the balloon off its intended course and farther south of the Canadian border.

However, U.S. officials are convinced that China flew the balloon over the Aleutian Islands and Alaska. U.S. officials believe the balloon took off from Hainan, China. Strong winds pushed the balloon farther south than China had initially expected, the officials said, and they appeared to be playing by ear, using the flight to spy on sensitive U.S. military sites where the balloon passed.

A U.S. official said the balloon had a purpose and its trajectory was speculative.

U.S. officials also said there appeared to be confusion among senior Chinese and military leaders over how to handle the incident. The incident has hampered Beijing's efforts to reset bilateral relations with the United States.

Both sides are dealing with intense political pressure at home in the wake of the balloon while trying to avoid a rapid escalation of tensions.

On 12 February, U.S. and Canadian officials were also trying to determine the origin and purpose of two other objects, which they described for the first time as balloons, that were shot down by military fighter jets over Alaska and Canada. In addition, on the same day, the United States shot down a fourth flying object over Lake Huron.

News (13)

The balloon incident affected the originally planned Xi-Biden session

The Wall Street Journal said that the political impact of the balloon incident is making it impossible to hold a "rehearsal meeting" soon. Some Chinese officials had hoped that Blinken's planned visit would pave the way for a summit of leaders between Biden and Xi Jinping, and they even expected the "workout" to be held before the annual meeting of Asia-Pacific leaders in San Francisco in November.

On 4 February, the first CCP spy balloon was shot down by the U.S. military. Beijing’s priority shifted from trying to save Blinken’s visit to China to a tough stance, and began to accuse the U.S. of hyping up and hurting Sino-U.S. relations.

At the same time, China rejected the U.S. proposal to discuss the balloon incident with the Secretary of Defense on the phone.

On 7 February, Xu Xueyuan, charge d'affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, lodged stern representations with the State Department and the National Security Council of the White House over the attack on the balloon by the US military.

The Wall Street Journal reported that officials from both countries stated that the communication channels between the U.S. State Department and the CCP Embassy in the United States, and between the U.S. Embassy in China and the CCP Ministry of Foreign Affairs are smooth.

The report also said that CCP officials said they were relieved by Biden's remarks on several news programs in the past week to downplay the impact of the balloon incident on bilateral relations, believing that these remarks showed that the White House did not want to escalate tensions between China and the U.S.

In addition, CCP’s Ministry of Commerce said on 9 February 2023 that it welcomed U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s wish to visit China, after Yellen hinted that she still wanted to visit China to discuss economic issues.

However, a U.S. official said it was "not yet time" to consider how the two sides would get out of their current predicament.

Tensions between the U.S. and China make the Committee on the first CCP focus of bipartisan cooperation

美中关系紧张 对中共委员会成两党合作焦点

Amid heightened tensions between the United States and CCP China, the U.S. House of Representatives told the members of the Committee on the Chinese Communist Party that the group is a bright spot in bipartisan cooperation and will "seriously" dealing with issues of strategic competition with the CCP.

According to NBC News (link), Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill, a former Navy helicopter pilot, said, "If you look at the word cloud (word cloud) about this committee, the first biggest one will be 'serious',  I hear everyone say that. It's a serious committee, and I believe so."

The full name of the committee is "House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party", referred to as the "Committee on the Chinese Communist Party". The House of Representatives was created by a landslide vote of 365 to 65 at the start of the current Congress, a major bipartisan feat when 146 Democrats voted in favor.

The committee's two leaders, Republican Chairman Mike Gallagher and the leading Democrat, Raja Krishnamoorthi, a member of Indian descent, said they expected to find a bipartisan approach to policy and legislation. consistent field.

These areas include focusing on the CCP’s human rights violations, formulating strategies to reduce U.S. dependence on China, investing in new technologies such as artificial intelligence to compete with Beijing, investigating the Sino-Russian alliance, and assisting Taiwan in defending against CCP invasion, among others.

“I think both Republicans and Democrats, to a large extent, are committed to helping Taiwan defend itself and making sure that Taiwan’s future is not like Ukraine is now,” Gallagher said.

Gallagher and Krishnamurthy have been working together since entering Congress in 2017. That year, the two launched the Middle Class Work Caucus (link). They also worked together on the House Intelligence Committee, demanding the Pentagon release information about Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) and gaining media attention.

"We've done a lot of work together in the past," Krishnamurthy told NBC News. "We know each other well and get on well, and I think that will help us in the future."

After the bipartisan membership list was announced, there were high hopes for the committee that the panel would avoid partisanship.

Democratic Rep. Sherrill said that the Republican members are stable candidates, which eased her concerns about being drawn into partisan battles.

Republican Representative Darin LaHood said, "I was pleasantly surprised that there were some thoughtful, pragmatic, no-nonsense members on the committee, and they all took the China (CCP) issue and their problems and malicious activities in a serious way."

For more than half a month, the CCP’s spy balloons have caused an uproar, and this newly established committee has attracted much attention. The lawmakers said the spy balloons underscored the military, economic and technological threats from Beijing.

While the balloon incident was not a focus of the committee, Gallagher said the balloon incursion "raised the threat" of China and helped explain why Americans should be concerned about CCP China.

The committee has 24 members, and the first hearing is likely to be held in early March. Gallagher said he hoped to lead a delegation of committee members abroad in the near future.

The Nikkei Asian newspaper reported on Sunday that Republican Rep. Rob Wittman said he and other committee members were discussing visiting Taiwan.

He said: "We know this will anger the CCP, but I think this is very important to us, because we must send a signal of standing firmly with Taiwan." Wittman also mentioned that the delegation does not rule out holding hearings in Taiwan but the schedule remains for further discussion. (learn more)

Republican Andy Kim called on Gallagher not to use "new cold war"

Of course, it was not all smooth sailing for the group. Rep. Andy Kim of New Jersey, a Korean-American, was a State Department official in Afghanistan and served on the Obama White House national security team. He called on Gallagher not to use "new cold war" to describe US-China relations.

"Chairman Gallagher keeps saying this is a 'new cold war,' and that doesn't help," Andy Kim told NBC News. "There's a fine line between deterrence and provocation, and the way you cross that line , will only irritate the opponent and provoke a greater challenge."

Gallagher said he wanted to sit down with Andy Kim to address his concerns.

Gallagher said: "The cold war model reminds us that we should try to ensure that it remains calm and does not escalate into a hot war. Our core function is to deter and prevent hot wars."

The U.S. 7th Fleet confirmed on 12 February 2023 that the Nimitz aircraft carrier strike group began conducting military exercises in the South China Sea on 11 February; A five-day "live-fire military exercise" was held in the Yellow Sea region. Due to the current tense relationship between the United States and CCP China, every move of the Second Army in East Asia has also become the focus of attention.

The Seventh Fleet shared footage of the Nimitz aircraft carrier strike group operating in the South China Sea

The Seventh Fleet of the US Navy stated on 12 February that the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group, the "Makin Island" Amphibious Fleet (Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group) and the 13th Marine Corps Expeditionary Unit (13th) Marine Expeditionary Unit), launched an integrated Expeditionary Strike Force (ESF) operation in the South China Sea on 11 February.

Although the text did not mention whether the operation had ended that day or was still in progress, it can be seen from the photos released by the Seventh Fleet on Twitter (Twitter) that the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier has, since early February continued sailing in the South China Sea.

At the same time, according to the information on the official website of the China Maritime Safety Administration, the Dalian Maritime Safety Administration issued a navigation warning that the People's Liberation Army will conduct live ammunition shooting in the northern part of the Yellow Sea from 8 am on 13 February to 4 pm on 17 February, prohibiting ships from entering, and military operations will last until 4 pm on 19 February.

According to a report by the Associated Press, a Philippine Coast Guard ship was attacked by a Chinese Coast Guard ship with laser light on 6 February. At that time, the Philippine patrol ship "BRP Malapascua" was near the Ren'ai Reef in the disputed waters of the South China Sea, in order to prevent the Philippine ships from approaching. On Second Thomas Shoal, a Chinese Coast Guard ship fired two green laser beam attacks at a Philippine patrol ship, briefly blinding crew members on deck.

Inaugural laser light attack on Filipino personnel adds to nearly 200 Philippine diplomatic protests against the CCP

Armand Balilo, spokesman for the Philippine Coast Guard, told the Associated Press that although Chinese ships have tried to obstruct and intercept Philippine Coast Guard ships in disputed waters before, this is the first time that China has targeted Philippine ships by using laser light to attack and cause physical harm to Filipino personnel.

According to the report, it is still unclear whether the Philippines will continue the original supply mission, and the Chinese embassy in Manila has not commented on the matter. Although Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. only met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing in January this year, the relationship between China and the Philippines in the disputed waters of the South China Sea is still very tense. China's aggressive actions in disputed waters alone have prompted nearly 200 diplomatic protests.
