"The driver of this car does not need to hold the steering wheel, the car can drive automatically." On 17 July 2024, on the T2 viaduct of Haikou Meilan International Airport (hereinafter referred to as Meilan Airport) under Hainan Holdings, a passenger shuttle bus with the words "autonomous driving" on the body slowly drove into the boarding station, marking the launch of the first airport open road autonomous driving demonstration phase project in Hainan Free Trade Port. This is also the first case of Hainan's airport autonomous driving technology being applied.
It is reported that the autonomous shuttle bus innovation test project was carried out by Meilan Airport and Shanghai Energy Yushi (Hainan) Smart Service Co., Ltd., aiming to improve the passenger service quality and efficiency of Meilan Airport through convenient intelligent services. It is mainly used for the loop connection between T1 and T2 viaducts. Passengers can take the autonomous shuttle bus for free outside Gate 5 of T1 and T2 departure halls. The operation time is from 7 am to 4 am, and there is one bus every 30 minutes.
The front and rear of the Meilan Airport autonomous shuttle bus are equipped with laser radar and high dynamic range camera modules, which can sense other vehicles, pedestrians, obstacles, traffic lights, road traffic lines, various traffic signs, etc. outside the vehicle. In the normal road environment, the driver can complete the autonomous driving tasks such as changing lanes, entering and exiting the station, and passing through the intersection without the need for driver operation. In addition, the autonomous shuttle bus combines the intelligent driving system carried by the vehicle with the capabilities of the laser radar to perceive the position, speed, size, direction, etc. of the target seen, realize the detection and tracking of the surrounding environment of the vehicle, and provide safe, accurate and efficient decision-making planning for autonomous driving connection. In addition, the autonomous shuttle bus will be equipped with a safety officer who will follow the bus throughout the journey to deal with emergencies.
The launch of the autonomous shuttle bus project is an important achievement of Meilan Airport in continuously promoting the construction of smart airports. In the future, Meilan Airport will continue to explore the application of autonomous driving technology in more scenarios, continuously empower Meilan Airport's intelligent and digital transformation, explore new ideas for the development of smart airports, and use "intelligent" changes to promote "qualitative" changes, so as to provide passengers with a more comfortable, convenient and warm diversified flight travel experience.
