Since the early morning of 24 February 2022, Russian troops and armored vehicles have flocked to Ukraine. The two sides fought fiercely on multiple fronts, each with casualties. Russian troops have seized the Chernobyl nuclear power plant north of the Ukrainian capital Kiev.

Later in the day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy ordered a general mobilization within 90 days to recruit recruits, reservists and vehicles to defend against the Russian army invasion "to ensure the defense of the country".

"What we hear today is more than missile explosions, battles and the rumble of planes. This is the sound of the new Iron Curtain, which has fallen, separating Russia from the civilized world," Zelensky said in a televised address. .

He called on Ukrainians to defend their country and said anyone ready to fight would be given arms. "Any citizen with combat experience will have a place now. It is up to you and all of us whether the enemy can further advance the territory of our independent nation."

Ukraine's interior ministry said 10,000 automatic rifles had been distributed to the Kiev population.

Russian forces seized the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, 90 km north of Kiev, that day, an adviser to Ukraine's presidential office said. The nuclear power plant had an explosion accident in April 1986, and the explosion reactor had been covered with a sarcophagus several years ago to prevent the continuous leakage of radiation.

The Associated Press reported that a Ukrainian official said on condition of anonymity that the Russian bombardment, which hit the nuclear waste storage facility at the nuclear power plant, had reported rising radiation levels.

Russian paratroopers and Ukrainian soldiers fought fiercely at the hostel airfield outside Kiev. Intensive exchanges of fire also occurred in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions of northeastern Ukraine, and the Kherson region in the south.

Zelensky said that the Ukrainian army stopped the Russian attack in the Donbass but it was very difficult in the direction of Kharkiv, and the most difficult situation was in the south. "Our troops are fighting fiercely on the outskirts of Kherson. The enemy is advancing outward from occupied Crimea, trying to advance towards Melitopol".

According to the Ukrainian News Agency, the Russian army launched several attacks in the Donetsk region, dispatched aircraft, artillery, missiles and a large number of armored vehicles, but failed to break through the Ukrainian defense line. The Ukrainian military successfully repelled the attack, defending and taking control of all important settlements and infrastructure.

The Ukrainian Joint Forces Operational Headquarters reported that heavy fighting also took place in the direction of Luhansk that day, with two Russian tanks destroyed and one tank and a ZU-23-2 system captured.

After Russia launched a full-scale invasion, Zelensky spoke with leaders of the United Kingdom, Turkey, France, Germany, the European Union, the United States, Sweden, Romania, Poland, Austria and other countries.

He said that Ukraine did not choose the path of war, but to return to peace. "If the leaders of the free world don't help us today, war will knock on your door tomorrow," he stressed.

Podoljako, adviser to the Ukrainian presidential palace, said today that Russian troops have captured the capital Kiev ( Kyiv) Chernobyl nuclear power plant site in the north. Another source pointed out that the Russian shelling hit the nuclear waste storage facility.

"It is impossible to say that the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is safe after a completely senseless attack by the Russians," Mykhailo Podolyak said. "This is the most serious threat facing Europe today. One of them."

On 24 February 2022, Russia launched a land, sea and air offensive against Ukraine, which was the largest attack on European countries since World War II. The Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded in April 1986, sending fallout across Europe. The blast reactor was covered with a sarcophagus several years ago to prevent the continued leakage of radiation.

The Associated Press reported that a Ukrainian official said on condition of anonymity that there had been reports of a rise in radiation levels after Russian shelling hit a nuclear waste storage facility.

A Russian security source said several Russian troops had assembled in the Chernobyl exclusion zone before advancing into Ukraine this morning.

The source added that by taking control of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, Russia wanted to signal to NATO not to intervene by force.

According to an adviser to the Ukrainian Presidential Palace, the Hostomel Airport in Kiev Oblast was also captured by the Russian army. Hundreds of explosions were heard in heavy fighting on the outskirts of the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol, diplomatic sources told Reuters today. Russia's mobile crematoriums designed to "evaporate" dead soldiers and hide true scale of war
This image taken from a 2013 video of the 'mobile crematoriums' shows how the incinerator hidden within the truck opens up to dispose of soldiers' bodies. These crematoriums are among the vehicles that are thought to be following Russian troops around in an effort to hide the true scale of war  (Daily Mail)

Among Russia's war arsenal in Ukraine are a series of mobile crematoriums that are designed to disintegrate the bodies of dead soldiers and civilians and hide the true scale of war, it was claimed on Thursday as Putin advanced with his assault on Ukraine.

The crematoriums have been deployed along with tanks and war jets for years, and a video of them was posted online in 2013. That footage resurfaced on Thursday with a grim new poignance now that all-out war has been declared. The exterior of the trucks looks like regular vehicles, but they contain hidden incinerators.

Western defense experts say they may be used to incinerate the bodies of soldiers in an effort of hiding the true death toll of the war.

'If I was a soldier and knew that my generals had so little faith in me that they followed me around the battlefield with a mobile crematorium, or I was the mother or father of a son, potentially deployed into a combat zone, and my government thought that the way to cover up losses was a mobile crematorium, I’d be deeply, deeply worried,' British Defence Minister Ben Wallace told The Daily Telegraph on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, the Committee of Soldiers' Mothers of Russia has claimed many of Putin's young soldiers now fighting in Ukraine were tricked into enlisting and told they were heading to the border for practice drills before being sent into bloody conflict.

The committee is non-governmental and was formed in 1989. On Thursday, they released a statement saying many of the young men who enlisted in the army were tricked into doing so, then beaten if they tried to back out.

"I would very much like you to speak on Red Square or elsewhere on the streets of your capital Moscow, St. Petersburg and other Russian cities. Not only on Instagram - it's very important," Zelensky said.

In the middle of the night on the 24th, Zelensky said in a video, "We are forced to fight alone to defend the country." 137 people were killed in Ukraine that day and 316 others were injured.

After Russia invaded Ukraine, on 25 February, the Republic of China announced that it would work with the international community to impose economic sanctions on Russia. The CCP stands on the opposite side of the international community and supports Russia.

It mainly involves the export of conventional weapons and related supplies and technologies.

Many countries and the United Nations have condemned Russia, and the United States and other countries have also announced sanctions against Russia earlier.

At the same time, the CCP turned a blind eye to Russia’s aggression, and the CCP media showed its support for Russia. Screenshots from the Internet show that the CCTV  of the Communist Party of China issued a document on the 22nd, calling the two regions of eastern Ukraine supported by Russia as "two countries" and so on. This post was later deleted.

On the 24th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Communist Party of China announced that Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in a phone call with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov that "the Ukraine issue has a special and complicated history" and that "we understand Russia's reasonable security concerns."

Canada sets a precedent for determining that the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Chinese Communist Party is a spy organization

Image : Saltwire

The Canadian federal court first alleged in January 2022 that the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Communist Party of China was suspected of espionage, and rejected the immigration appeals of two Chinese citizens. Burton, a former Canadian diplomat in Beijing, said he hoped this time Canada would set an excellent precedent.

According to the court's ruling, Chinese nationals Yong Zhang and his wife Yuxia Gao, sponsored by their Canadian-born daughter, applied for reunification. As a result, they were rejected by the immigration officer who reviewed the application because Zhang Yong worked in the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Communist Party of China for 20 years and held a senior administrative position in the agency before retiring.

After the application was denied, the couple sought a judicial review of the decision in federal court. Federal Judge Vanessa Rochester ruled that the immigration officer's decision was okay and said it was reasonable to conclude that the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office was involved in espionage given the evidence available to the immigration officer.

Rochester said there were reasonable grounds to believe that the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office had engaged in espionage "contrary to Canada's interests."

The immigration officer hearing the petition wrote, “Based on information from open and credible sources, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office has undertaken covert operations against Chinese communities around the world, and therefore, it is reasonable to assume that this includes Chinese communities in Canada and its allies, which can be considered contrary to Canada’s interests.”

The court said that "it can reasonably be concluded that the manner in which the Qiaoban engaged in the collection of information was covert" and that "the information collected, and the intended use of the information collected, is confidential."

Citing an academic article by Dr. James, the court described the work of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office as "ostensibly aimed at maintaining, protecting and enhancing the rights and interests of overseas Chinese", but in practice "striving to legitimize the power of the Chinese Communist Party and maintain its international image" , and maintain its influence through important means of acquiring social, economic and political resources at home and abroad.”

Overseas Chinese Affairs Office researches on the affairs of overseas Chinese in Canada and abroad, passing information to CCP

The article also said the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office drafted policies on overseas Chinese affairs and participated in "intelligence collection and dissemination," including by "researching the affairs of overseas Chinese at home and abroad, and passing this information to the CCP."

Charles Burton, a former Canadian diplomat in Beijing and a senior fellow at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute (MLI), said that despite the CCP's apparent long-standing efforts to influence and monitor Canadian Chinese, but Canadian authorities rarely publicly name the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office.

"I'm excited about the ruling," he said. "I hope it sets an excellent precedent."

Burton said both the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Mounted Police have advised the government on such Chinese-organized interference but politicians tend to suppress the information for fear of damaging Canada-China trade.

He said that those targeted by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office are often very afraid, not only for themselves, but also for their relatives in China. None of them dared to speak publicly.

"I would say, now is the time," Guan Zhuozhong, the former president of Toronto's pro-China National Games, told The National Post.

"It's time to stop ducking the issue and face the fact that China (CCP) is spying and harassing dissidents in this country (Canada)."

Overseas Chinese Affairs Offices aims to exert CCP's influence on foreign countries

Du Jianhua, senior adviser to the Asia New Zealand Foundation (ANZF), wrote in his research report that although the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office ostensibly claims to provide support for the diaspora, its goal is actually to "legitimize and protect" the CCP's power and enhance its international image and exert its influence. To achieve this goal, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office collects intelligence on overseas Chinese and tries to influence them.

Three years ago, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office was merged into the United Front Work Department, a Chinese Communist Party agency that leads overseas influence operations. Well-known Australian researcher Alex Joske said the merger meant the Chinese regime was devoting "more resources" to expanding its overseas influence.

CCP manipulates against Chinese communities outside mainland China

According to a report by Ming Pao, Canada, a March 2020 report by the Canada Border Services Agency on the CCP’s espionage activities in Canada stated that the CCP conducts “systematic intelligence gathering, lobbying, influence and manipulation” against the Chinese community. The office is charged with "influencing or manipulating" community members and targeting dissidents and minorities with "coercive tactics."

"The intimidation of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Chinese Communist Party involves all levels of the community. It controls them through rewards and punishments, as well as intelligence gathering, surveillance and subversion of the overseas Chinese community," the report said.

Overseas Chinese Affairs Office identifies "enemies of the CCP" and eliminates threats to the CCP regime

The report also said, “The Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Communist Party of China participates in covert operations and coercion of Chinese communities and other minorities around the world by targeting Chinese dissidents overseas and gathering intelligence on Chinese and their activities, individuals who pose a threat to the CCP and organize and monitor 'overseas Chinese businesses, students, cultural, media and political networks'."

Citing the U.S. government, academic publications and news reports, the report said the Chinese intelligence agencies are the most active organizations in the world, and they are constantly evolving and "more and more active."

The Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Communist Party of China is responsible for “identifying enemies of the CCP, monitoring diasporas, manipulating related organizations, and engaging in covert intelligence-gathering activities,” the report said. It also works to eliminate threats to the CCP regime and seek to disrupt similar threat".

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a military operation against eastern Ukraine on the morning of the 24th Taiwan time, which was regarded as an official declaration of war on Ukraine. Russia's severance of diplomatic relations has made the international situation even more tense.

However, many prophecies about the "Battle between Ukraine and Russia" have been dug up. For example, an ancient book 467 years ago recorded that there will be a war in Europe in 2022, which coincides with the current international situation. It has been mentioned that Russia will "get rid of everything" and become the master of the world.

According to The Daily Star, in 1555, the French-Jewish prophet Nostradamus published the book "Prophecy", in which It is mentioned that there is likely to be a war in Europe in 2022, and the main cause of the war will be the threat to France from the East, which may happen in the spring of this year. Although the prediction is vague, many people think that this is an allusion to the occurrence of the third world war.

As for the "eastern threat", it happens to be the same situation as Russia's declaration of war on Ukraine.

The Bulgarian prophet "Blind LP" Baba Vanga predicted with writer Valentin Sidorov in 1979: "Everything will melt, just like ice, only he remains the same - Vlagi The glory of Mir (Putin), the glory of Russia", but also warned: "It has brought too many victims, and no one can stop Russia. Everything will be removed by him on the way, nothing will be left, will become the master of the world," seems to predict that Russia will wage war on Europe and take over the world.

The horror footage revealed that foreign media had also predicted 5 locations where World War 3 might break out in the past. In order of danger, they were Ukraine (Ukraine and Russia), Taiwan (China and the United States), and Iran. (United States and Iraq), the Korean Peninsula (North and South Korea), and the Himalayas (China and India), the part targeting Ukraine is due to Putin’s questioning Ukraine’s right to statehood on the grounds that Russia and Ukrainians belong to “one nation” and the solution believes that Ukraine tends to be friendly with the Western world, which makes Russia feel threatened.

Using Ukraine as reference! The United States only provides military aid and does not send troops to Taiwan

Editor : Gu Shangjun / news.tvbs.com.tw/politics/1724641

The long-awaited war between Ukraine and Russia officially broke out. The people picked up their mobile phones and took a picture, and the torrent of steel in the Russian army could hardly see the end.

A whole row of iron armored troops pushes the border of Ukraine and Russia along the road. This is the main force of the Russian army. The column of T-80U tanks has advanced composite armored reactive armor, and even anti-tank missiles may not be able to penetrate. European and American countries' aid to Ukraine is currently the only one.

In addition to the javelin missiles used for anti-armor, there are also needle missiles used for air defense, but experts believe that the effectiveness of military aid may be limited.

Military writer Yu Canghe said, "The Ukrainian military has been using Russian weapons for a long time. Under the circumstances of different training methods, operation steps and usage habits, can these weapons exert their combat power in a short period of time and help Ukraine resist the invasion. The Russian army, I think this is a difficult thing. If there are civilian military companies in Western countries, or military advisers of special forces, secretly guiding the operation, I believe that these weapons should be able to play a greater role in combat power."

The last US arms sale to Taiwan was the maintenance of Patriot missiles at a price of US$100 million. Although Taiwan bought the entire system and equipment, the key technologies are still in the hands of the U.S.

Huang Yili, former director of the Department of War Regulations of the Ministry of National Defense, said, "Your sales channel is a single source, you have no choice, but whether you are willing to participate and whether you are willing to pay the price, the treatment of this foreigner is different from our treatment. Not to say that the difference is dozens of percentages, it may be the difference of multiples. He is also far away from his hometown. When he reaches your remote village, you reach your high mountain, and when you reach your remote area, the living conditions are basically poor in all aspects. This price may not be what we can imagine.”

There are actually many related cases, such as the Pave Claw Radar located in Leshan, Hsinchu, which cost more than NT$40 billion to construct in Taiwan, but it still costs NT$700 million  to maintain it every year, plus NT$170 million for water and electricity bills. This does not include additional costs ranging from billions to tens of billions. However, the maintenance of related systems, and even the use of obtained intelligence, still have to pass through the United States.

Huang Yili, former director of the Department of War Regulations of the Ministry of National Defense, said, "Basically, we also have a lot of advanced surveillance and investigation equipment. The surveillance and investigation equipment basically has these information and signals. After the information is obtained, we have no ability to deal with it quickly. Quickly turn it from intelligence information to intelligence, from intelligence to images of tactics that we can use, of course you have to cooperate, because this is beyond your ability and scope.”

National Affairs Foundation National Security Group Associate Researcher Jie Zhong said, "Although the United States has provided us with a lot of sophisticated equipment in recent years, within Washington, we have always been worried about leaking secrets on our side, more than Japan and South Korea, and therefore in the so-called core part of the technical energy, and even the core system. For the maintenance part, the U.S. usually refuses to release it to the Republic of China in the first place.”

When threatened and relying on foreign aid, it may be the helplessness of a small country, but in the case of Ukraine, at the critical moment, it still has to rely on itself. Therefore, in addition to strengthening the weapon system, Taiwan integrating its own intelligence system and achieving early warning is also crucial.

Ou Xifu, Director of the Institute of Combat Concepts of the National Defense Academy, said, "The Ministry of National Defense has an integration plan, because like the current naval ships, there is no way to instantly integrate the intelligence information of the Air Force. The new plan is to integrate these. Immediate response can shorten the response time.”

Taiwan is in a difficult situation but relying on the promises of others will never compare to its own actions. In addition to thanking its allies for their assistance, it must also control its own way out.

If foreign enemy invaded, will "Taiwan men vow to resist"? The Internet exposes the cruel side: Just a live target

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky officially announced that male citizens aged 18 to 60 are prohibited from leaving the country and must be fully prepared for war. In this regard, some netizens pointed out that there are currently more than 6.4 million men in Taiwan between the ages of 20 and 40. If the enemy attacks Taiwan, once the government issues a mobilization order, there will be enough troops to deal with it but he does not dare to boldly decide, "Is it all? The people will swear to the death to resist the invaders?"

The war between Ukraine and Russia has made many people worry that "Taiwan may become the next Ukraine". A netizen said on PTT that there are more than 6.4 million men between the ages of 20 and 40 in the Republic of China. If they encounter an enemy invasion, at least 5 million adult men can join the national army. Therefore, he believes that with all the people the domestic military is strong. Together, Taiwanese will be able to resist foreign enemies.

It was further pointed out that, in view of this, there is no need for US military assistance, and there is no need to ask for the help of international troops. However, he did not dare to jump to conclusions. Netizens curiously asked, "Are all citizens willing to swear to the death to resist the invaders?"

After the post was exposed, everyone slapped the original PO, "Unlikely, most of the Taiwanese hope is on the United States. Once the United States does not send troops, it is almost impossible. I will surrender", "I don't usually train on the battlefield just as a living target".

In addition, many people said that if a situation like Ukraine happened in Taiwan, there would be a "type 1 person" who would immediately grab a passport and run away, "If you don't have dual citizenship, just wait! I thought a bunch of people would be cool with their American passports." "Everyone with money ran away, and we only have one life."

The Central Propaganda Department banned the media from sending unfavourable news on Russia

Russia opened fire on Ukraine, and the CCP authorities acted quickly to prohibit the media from publishing news that was unfavourable on Russia.

The Russian-Ukrainian war broke out when the two sessions of the CCP were imminent. The Propaganda Department of the Central Committee was in full swing. It has issued notices to the media at all levels in mainland China to guide public opinion, the so-called "mainly focus on positive propaganda". CCP position.

On Tuesday (22 February 2022), the international channel "World" under the "Beijing News" accidentally posted a suspected superior's instruction to Weibo, in which the CCP clearly asked the media to post news that "are harmful to Russia and not pro-Western.", “Whoever publishes is responsible for it”, “If it is a topic, only use the topic of “Renxinyang”.” The "Renxinyang" in Chinese stands for People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency and CCTV respectively.

Guided by the public opinion of the Central Propaganda Department, just a few hours after Russia announced the military action, some mainland websites and social media have spread the false news of "Putin's blitzkrieg over Ukraine" on a large scale. Many netizens ridiculed the CCP for "kneeling and licking".

The CCP takes the lead in the decline of global democracy and freedom for 16 consecutive years

Image : Video Screenshot

According to the latest report of the American non-governmental organization "Freedom House", the level of global democracy and freedom continues to decline, and the CCP takes the lead in promoting "authoritarianism".

On 24 February 2022, the latest Global Freedom Survey report showed that the overall level of political rights and civil liberties in countries around the world has declined for 16 consecutive years. Last year, 38.4% of the world's population lived in countries that were not at all free, the highest level since 1997.

Among them, as many as 60 countries have seen their civil liberties decline, and the CCP remains one of 56 "non-free countries."

The report also specifically named the CCP for taking the lead in promoting authoritarianism. In the past year, the CCP has further expanded the scope of the ban, using economic, technological, military threats and other means to put pressure on other governments, international institutions and private enterprises, and at the same time suppress the international community's criticism of its human rights situation.

However, Freedom House also stated that in the past year, Lithuania took the lead in the diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics, and the United States and European countries imposed sanctions on the CCP over the Xinjiang issue. More and more countries have begun to resist the expansion of the CCP’s influence.

How many compliments did the CCP give Xuzhou before the exposure of "Chain Woman"?

Images : Video Screenshots

The "Chain Woman" incident has shattered the image of the authorities in Xuzhou, Jiangsu. Not long ago, this important distribution centre for abducting women and children received "special care" from the CCP.

The "Chain Woman" incident was exposed, and Fengxian County in Xuzhou became a "magic den" for trafficking in women. Netizens questioned what the local "women's federation" was doing. As everyone knows, just before the "Chain Woman" incident, the Jiangsu Women's Federation awarded the Fengxian Women's Federation the "March 8th Red Banner Bearer (Collective) Honorary Title" for "outstanding achievements in the protection of women's rights and interests".

In addition, Fengxian Women's Federation also won the "2017 Jiangsu Provincial Women's Federation System Advanced Collective Honorary Title". Ironically, Fengxian Women's Federation also promoted its so-called "advanced experience in preventing trafficking in women and children" to the province and the country.

Careful netizens also found that Fengxian government departments have also been awarded provincial health districts and counties, moral model districts and counties, women's federation model, female moral model, rural sage political model, characteristic digital village and many other awards. The population centre "Gold Plated" not only strongly recommended Xuzhou to win the "UN Habitat Award" in 2018 but also decorated Xuzhou as the "happiest city" in China for many years.

The moment of death flashes before the eyes of a lifetime, and the research has a new discovery

Reporter : Li Shaowei / Editor : Ye Ziwei / https://www.epochtimes.com/gb/22/2/25/n13603707.htm
Image : A special enhanced signal was recorded on the electroencephalogram at the moment of death. (Shutterstock)

A man died of a sudden heart attack while being monitored by an EEG. This gave scientists the opportunity to see EEG signals throughout a person's death.

Many near-death experiencers describe this way, in the moment before death, important memories in one's life are replayed scene by scene like a movie. The EEG signals seen in this study do support this claim.

The 87-year-old epilepsy patient was undergoing an EEG scan to analyze his epilepsy lesions, the researchers said. However, he died of a heart attack during the course of the study. The researchers recorded EEG signals for up to 15 minutes before and after his entire death.

The researchers focused on EEG data from 15 seconds before and after the heart stopped beating, and found that gamma oscillations in the brain increased during this phase. This feature also occurs in EEG signals when people are dreaming and recalling things. The researchers believe that this suggests that people may be recalling a lifetime of experiences during the process of dying.

"By generating EEG oscillations associated with memory retrieval, the brain may replay important events in one's life, similar to what many near-death experiencers describe."

Zemar said that this not only allows people to explore the experience before death from one side, but also raises many important follow-up questions, such as when can the organs voluntarily donated by donors be harvested? "This finding challenges people's understanding of the definition of the point of death."

The study was published on 22 February 2022 in the journal Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience.

Global Freedom Report China again listed as "Not Free" country

The U.S. human rights organization "Freedom House" released its 2022 Global Freedom Report on 25 February 2022. At the same time, Taiwan the Republic of China continues to rank as a free country, and ranks 17th in the world with Iceland and other countries, and ranks 2nd in Asia after Japan.

Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a special military operation against Ukraine on the 24th, and authoritarian forces rose. Freedom House's "Global Freedom Report 2022" also issued the same warning, warning that global democracy has declined for 16 consecutive years, and that authoritarianism is increasingly likely to replace democracy and become the standard model of international national governance.

Despite the gloomy outlook for global democracy, Taiwan still scored 94 points this year, the same as last year, according to the report, including 38 out of 40 in "political rights" and 56 out of 60 in "civil liberties" , continues to be listed as a "Free" country.

Globally, Taiwan is tied for 17th place with Iceland, Estonia, Chile and Germany, which also scored 94 points; in Asia, it is second only to Japan, which scored 96 points.

The report evaluates 210 countries and regions around the world, using the local people's access to political rights and civil liberties as indicators.

In this year's report, China maintained its score last year, with negative 2 points for "political rights" and only 11 points for "civil liberties", for a total of 9 points, and it was once again listed as a "Not free" country.

The report pointed out that in recent years, Beijing's authoritarian regime has become increasingly oppressive, and the Communist Party has continued to strengthen its control over all aspects of people's lives and government governance, undermining a series of early moderate legal reforms. The degree to which CCP leader Xi Jinping has consolidated his personal power is the first time China has seen in decades; Chinese human rights activists and lawyers have continued to speak out, but at a personal price.

As for Hong Kong, which has been strongly suppressed by the CCP, this year it scored 10 points in "political rights" and 33 points in "civil liberties", a total of 43 points, a sharp drop of 9 points from last year's 52 points, and is classified as "Partly Free".

The report pointed out that while 25 countries have made progress in political rights and democratic freedoms in the past year, 60 countries have experienced democratic decline last year.

As of today, 38% of the world's population lives in "unfree" countries, the highest rate since 1997; only 2 in 10 people live in "free" countries, the report said.

Ukraine embroiled in war, burning eyebrows in Zhongnanhai

Just three days after the Beijing Olympics, Russia began to attack Ukraine. For the first time in human history, a modern war that started with great publicity, public transport of troops, advance notice, adequate planning, and all the journalists in place, finally, amid people's regret and helplessness, the Olympic Games as the world's "peace". , a symbol of friendship", the irony of the lingering voice, officially started. However, when Russia's armed invasion and Ukraine started the war, the eyebrows of Zhongnanhai were burned at the same time. Because the Communist regime in Beijing is facing a full-scale crisis in international politics, diplomacy, economy and technology caused by events in Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a televised speech at 5.30 am announcing that Russia would launch a "special military operation" in Ukraine. Biden immediately issued a statement condemning Putin for waging a "premeditated war." Putin said further NATO expansion and NATO use of Ukrainian territory "is unacceptable". Judging from Putin's claims, Russia's aggression has four goals: dismantle Ukraine's military power (demilitarization); replace the current Ukrainian government (demilitarization), support the pro-Russian government; war; preventing Ukraine from acquiring nuclear weapons. But Putin still has a fifth goal, which he did not explicitly state. As the author said in the article "NATO Should Respond to Putin's Repositioning Directly Take the CCP" and several video interviews, that is Ukraine can never join NATO. Of course, this is also the primary purpose of Russia to support the pro-Russian regime.

CCP in a dilemma over its position on the Russia-Ukraine war

On the Ukraine issue, the CCP has been in a dilemma and has no credibility. Now it has fallen into a dilemma. On the opening day of the Beijing Winter Olympics, the CCP used a lot of money to get Putin’s presence to support it but it only got partial endorsement because Putin, after getting the money (15 contracts) and the CCP’s guarantee, was supposed to attend a luxurious dinner specially prepared by the CCP. However, he went straight back home, ready to start a war. However, the joint statement released by the CCP's Russia on the opening day of the Olympic Games has tied the CCP to Russia's chariot against Europe and the United States (see the author's article "China is tied to a chariot against Europe and the United States"). In the joint statement, Moscow just repeated the old tune, saying that Taiwan is part of China; but Beijing took the risk of the world to declare that it supports Russia and opposes the eastward expansion of NATO.

This statement, which stands on Russia's stand, endorses Russia, supports Russia economically, and opposes NATO's eastward expansion, has angered European and American countries. Just because Russia and Ukraine have already started a war, they haven't had time to react to the CCP's position. NATO's eastward expansion, preparing to accept Ukraine, and advancing NATO's strategic frontier to Russia's western border is precisely the focus of this Russia-Ukraine dispute! But just before Russia invaded Ukraine, the CCP suddenly changed its stance, expressing its opposition to Russia’s encroachment on Ukraine’s sovereignty. It is said that the Politburo of the Communist Party of China closed the door for three days to discuss this matter, and finally made this decision that put itself in a dilemma.

However, will the CCP therefore stand with the United States and Europe, fully oppose Russian aggression, fully support Ukraine’s sovereignty and counterattack, and fully participate in economic sanctions against Russia? The CCP will not do this either. In fact, the situation that the CCP is currently facing is unique among all countries in the world, and it is very embarrassing; the CCP authorities are neither advancing nor retreating; supporting Russia against the CCP in Ukraine does not dare, and supporting Ukraine against the CCP in Ukraine is unwilling; precisely because of sitting on the wall and having an unprincipled "stance" made China annoyed and burned Zhongnanhai itself when the Russian armed invasion and Ukraine started the war. The setbacks facing the CCP can be manifested in international politics, diplomacy, economics and technology.

In this dispute, the United Nations may lose credibility and become a useless bureaucracy. Because Russia happens to be the presidency of the Security Council, and with Russia’s veto power, I believe that the Security Council will not pass any meaningful resolutions condemning and sanctioning Russia, and it will have no way to prevent or maintain peace in this war of aggression. How will the CCP vote?

News (37)

CCP must also accept the independence referendum of Taiwanese

If the CCP votes in favour and joins international sanctions, the CCP will forge a relationship with Russia, and the CCP’s strategy of joining Russia and resisting the United States that the CCP has worked hard for more than 20 years may collapse overnight. If the CCP joins Russia and casts a veto, it will anger the whole world. At the same time, the CCP will face another, more subtle problem: if the CCP follows the same tactics as Russia with Taiwan, Russia has accepted the independent status of the two small republics (Donetsk and Lugansk), the CCP must also accept the independence referendum of all citizens of Taiwan.

If the result of the referendum is also independence, would the CCP dare to admit it? If the result of the referendum is not to become one with mainland China, but to join the United States as a state, what will the CCP feel? ! Therefore, the CCP is likely to follow the same old pattern they have been in the United Nations for many years, and may abstain from voting, highlighting the incompetence and inaction of this Communist regime.

CCP missed the chance to mediate between Russia and Ukraine

Originally, the CCP had an opportunity to try to mediate between Russia and Ukraine. The French President and the German Chancellor both went to Moscow to hold talks with Putin in an attempt to mediate the conflict between Russia and Ukraine but they were unsuccessful. As the main military powers of NATO, it is really difficult for France and Germany not to be sidelined in this "pull", because NATO is obviously standing with Ukraine but the CCP is different.

The CCP has always maintained friendly relations with Russia and Ukraine, and has close cooperation in military industry, energy and trade with both countries. Russia and Ukraine have disputes, and the CCP, which is friendly with both sides, originally had a perfect opportunity to demonstrate its diplomatic strength, diplomatic skills, and horizontal and vertical cooperation in the international arena, which neither the United States nor the EU countries have at all.

If the CCP can really mediate successfully, it will be a great credit; even if the mediation fails, it can also highlight the influence of a big country. It is a pity that the senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Communist Party of China and Zhongnanhai are full of fat, good at power struggle, infighting, and suppressing the people but they are neglected in international relations and international exchanges, and they have missed a good opportunity.

However, the Ukrainian war started by Russia, although the Ukrainian people and the land will suffer, but the fire at the city gate and the disaster will affect the fish, and I am afraid it will affect the people who watch the fish in the Zhongnanhai. It may be difficult for the CCP to escape involvement in this war and subsequent international sanctions and side selection.

UK intelligence: Sanction CCP before sanctioning Russia

The latest suggestion from British intelligence agencies is that when Ukraine starts fighting, if the West really wants to sanction Russia, it must also sanction China first. Because the West has clearly realized that the 15 agreements between the CCP and Russia, plus the previous energy agreements and arms contracts, the CCP’s economic support for Russia is the key to maintaining Russia’s war machine. To destroy Russia's war machine, it is necessary to destroy the economic ties between the CCP and Russia, and even destroy the economic power of the CCP.

CCP risks retaliation from Russia

Because of the Taiwan issue, the CCP has cast a shadow over the Taiwan issue. During the Russian-Ukrainian war, it was inclined to oppose Russia’s aggression. However, if the CCP extends economic sanctions against Russia because of the Western economic sanctions against Russia, the CCP may have to protect itself and give up its support for Russia for its own economic interests and the safety of the regime. But as I mentioned above, Russia's anger and future retaliation may also engulf the CCP, the Russian-supported regime.

Main agricultural exports to China from Ukraine affected

If the CCP is afraid of Russia's anger, or cannot withdraw because of its multiple agreements with Russia, it will offend Ukraine and cause additional losses. China's economic and defense interests in Ukraine will be harmed. The trade relationship between China and Ukraine has grown rapidly since 2013. China overtook Russia to become Ukraine's largest single trading partner in 2019, according to the National Bureau of Statistics of Ukraine. The total trade between the two countries in 2021 will be US$18.98 billion, an increase of nearly 80% from 2013. Ukraine's main exports to China are commodities such as iron ore, corn and sunflower oil, while imports from China are mainly machinery and consumer goods. Today, China is the largest importer of Ukrainian barley, with 30% of China's corn imports (more than 8 million tonnes) coming from Ukraine last year.

Ukraine is an important hub for CCP's "One Belt, One Road" initiative

Furthermore, Ukraine is an important hub for the CCP’s “One Belt, One Road” initiative. Ukraine joined the initiative in 2017. Large Chinese companies including state-owned food conglomerate COFCO Corp, state-owned China Pacific Construction Group, China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), Huawei and others have all invested heavily in Ukraine. In Donetsk, the focus of the war, Power Construction Corp of China signed a $1 billion deal with local partners in Donetsk for an 800-megawatt wind farm, Europe's largest onshore wind farm.

CCP benefits from Ukrainian technology since Ukraine's independence

After the disintegration of the Soviet Union and Ukraine's independence, 30% of the Soviet Union's defense industry was left on Ukrainian territory, including 750 factories and 140 scientific research institutions, employing 1 million people. The military technology that Ukraine has inherited from the former Soviet Union has benefited the CCP. The Chinese military's imitation weapons industry, aviation, ship engine, and aerospace industries depend to a large extent on Ukrainian defense companies.

CCP may have to bear consequences of Western sanctions

As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine further intensified, the official Weibo account of the CCP media accidentally posted instructions on how to deal with news of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine on Weibo, "Unfavourable to Russia and pro-Western" (which was deleted shortly after).  From this point of view, it is very likely that the CCP will choose the party with the biggest fist and strength, namely Russia, as the object of support in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The consequence of doing so is that the CCP may lose its interests in Ukraine, and it may also have to bear the consequences of the Western sanctions against Russia, which will affect China.

I don't know how long the war in Ukraine will last but Zhongnanhai may have to pay attention to their eyebrows and his entire body.

Wuhan's centralized isolation of time and space companions arouses dissatisfaction

Recently, the Wuhan epidemic has re-emerged. The Wuhan authorities have not only concentrated and quarantined close contacts and secondary close contacts, but also put the so-called "time and space companions". The 14-day centralized quarantine and 14-day home observation have sparked public dissatisfaction.

News (46)

The health code of the time and space companions did not turn yellow but they were required to be isolated in a centralized manner

Mr. Wu, a citizen of Wuhan, was quarantined by the authorities on the grounds of being a "time and space companion". On the 23rd, he disclosed the details to the Epoch Times reporter.

He said, "I received a notice today because I am a 'time and space attendant' and will be taken to centralized quarantine, hotel quarantine for 14 days and home quarantine for 14 days. Several colleagues in our unit have also received (quarantine) notices. ."

He said angrily, "space-time companions" can't be considered close connections, but there is an intersection of mobile phone signals within a time period and within a geographical range. "As a result, Wuhan has to isolate all 'time-space companions' all at once."

"Our code has not turned yellow, which is a very strange thing, but we were notified to be quarantined; the itinerary code did not show that we have been to risk areas." He also said, "None of our family members need to be quarantined, just me. People are going to quarantine. Because I'm on the list, so are my colleagues."

Mr. Wu believes that the government's approach may be an overreaction to the "clearing" policy, or it may be suspected of concealing the epidemic, "A colleague of mine said that he passed through a subway station and was 'accompanied by time and space', but the announced confirmed cases The path can't be found there."

There are also some time-space companions who were asked to isolate and complained on Weibo.

Some netizens posted on Weibo in the early morning of the 24th to express their dissatisfaction, "Wuhan epidemic prevention has begun to act as a demon again. Yesterday, community organizations did nucleic acid testing in the middle of the night. Now, in the middle of the night, they call the so-called time and space companions to inform them to do nucleic acid testing. Yes, the buildings that are at risk of being sealed off by scientific epidemic prevention are just pretending to be used by the media. I didn’t sleep well, my throat was stabbed, and even if there was no epidemic, I was tossed to death.”

Some netizens also questioned why they should be quarantined because they are not close contacts in the early morning of the 24th. "(23rd) I received a call from the community at 4:30 p.m. and said to wait for a notification. At 12 am, I was notified to pack my things and go to quarantine, and I was arranged around 2 am. "Okay", just because I went to Wuhan for a meal, I became a space-time follower. "The key is that I am not a close contact!"

Ms. Wang, a resident of Wuhan, told The Epoch Times that the government will not let people out this time. "Several buildings in my community have been closed. We have 6 buildings that have not been closed, and 2, 3, and 10 buildings have been closed, and all the gates have been closed."

There are too many people in quarantine to get out

After receiving the quarantine notice, Mr. Wu was still waiting for the car to take him to quarantine. "The whole city of Wuhan has to quarantine tens of thousands of people today, all in the name of 'time and space companions'. Some say 50,000 people, but people in the community say there are hundreds of thousands." He said.

He told reporters, "Wuhan is very chaotic right now, because there are too many people in quarantine, and I can't get in line. I haven't been told to take a car or which hotel to go to. The community also said that they might call me up in the middle of the night. , ask me to be on call at any time. I have a colleague who originally said to get on the bus at 7 o'clock, but has not yet got on the bus. "

"There has never been a city with a large-scale quarantine of 'time and space attendants' like Wuhan before, and everyone has a lot of opinions." He said dissatisfied, "This is equivalent to not being able to go to work for a month, and there is no compensation. Our state-owned enterprises are better. Although there're just a large chunk of wages less, some private enterprises are even worse.”

He said, "People in the government are now talking about the fact that the city leaders have to pursue such extreme left policies regardless of their economic situation and financial capacity in order to protect themselves."

Before the official announcement, the public have spread the news of the Wuhan Omicron epidemic

According to Mr. Wu, before the official announcement of the confirmed cases, he had received exact information from friends.

He said he received two messages from friends on Monday afternoon. One is the confirmed case living in Building 28 of Tianyue, Poly Times, and the approximate trajectory of his actions when he came to Wuhan from Beijing on the 16th to participate in the "Eagle Training" training of the new health industry service company. The confirmed case was scheduled to return to Beijing on the 20th (Sunday) the day before because his nucleic acid test was positive.

Another message is a picture showing that after receiving an urgent notice from the city headquarters, after a training meeting was held in a hotel in Wuchang District from 18 to 20 February, a person from Beijing who participated in the training and came to Wuhan tested positive for nucleic acid before returning to Beijing. After the tracking nucleic acid test of the relevant training personnel, 2 more cases were found, respectively in Jiang'an District and Donghu High-tech Zone.

The notice also requires that the emergency command system be activated immediately, all working groups, streets and departments will enter a wartime state, and all health personnel will be on duty.

He said, "The official announcement was not made at that time but there was already a lot of news, saying that there were many places investigating people who returned from Wuhan, and some communities in Wuhan began to close communities and do nucleic acid tests. It was until 9 pm and 10 pm. It looks like the official announcement that there is an epidemic."

On the 23rd, the Wuhan Epidemic Prevention and Control Headquarters issued a notice stating that three places in Wuhan were adjusted to medium-risk areas, including Building 28 of Tianyue Community, Poly Times, Donghu High-tech Zone, Building 29 of Tongxin Garden Community, Houhu Street, Jiang'an District, and Hong Kong District, Qingshan District. Gate 127, Block 58, Wei Road Street.

Mr. Wu said, "Actually, there are many more closed communities than this, there should be dozens."

Although the Wuhan headquarters urgently notified all staff to enter a wartime state, the Hubei Provincial Health Commission announced the epidemic on 24 February, saying that 10 local cases were confirmed in Wuhan on the 23rd. Because the CCP has consistently concealed the epidemic, the official figures are considered to be seriously inaccurate.

Guangzhou hides the epidemic from the public

Mr. Chen, a citizen of Guangzhou, also introduced to The Epoch Times that there are colleagues in the unit from Wuhan, and he heard that there is also an outbreak there. "Now in Guangzhou, we have not said that there is an epidemic here, but we are required to provide a 48-hour negative nucleic acid test certificate when entering and leaving the factory. It is not ruled out that the official concealed the epidemic. Now the information is opaque, and there is no way to obtain the truth, just like the mother of eight children in Xuzhou. Like the incident, most of the people around me don’t know the news. We can’t see the news of the epidemic in Hong Kong, but we only know that Hong Kong conducts national nucleic acid testing.”

Wuhan's campuses implement closed management

According to the news released by Wuhan's official epidemic news conference on the 23rd, the cluster outbreak of Omicron variant strains in Wuhan originated from a training of 66 people on 21 February 2022. Among the confirmed cases, there were trainers, their families, and others. 24 close contacts have left Wuhan.

Mr. Wu said that the official statement is that the epidemic was caused by those who came from the training class in Beijing. Those people went to many places, all over the three towns of Wuhan. "A colleague of mine was once closed in the community, and their community is near Tongxin Garden."

"At the time, I thought this matter had little to do with me, because our community was not near the places where the activity tracks were announced at the beginning." He said, "As a result, today we suddenly notified the 'time and space companions' that they were all quarantined. Today, schools are all closed. Yes, it does look serious."

On 23 February, the relevant person in charge of the Wuhan Education Bureau announced that the campus in Wuhan will be closed for management. Some schools and students in Wuhan have temporarily changed from offline teaching to online teaching.

In the afternoon of 23 February, Wuhan Vocational and Technical College WeChat released the "Supplementary Notice on Returning to School in the Spring Semester of 2022", announcing that all full-time teachers and students would suspend their return to school.
