On the first day of the World Health Assembly (WHA) speech, eight countries including Japan, Britain, Australia, France, the United States, the Czech Republic, Canada, and Guatemala spoke out for Taiwan, praising Taiwan as a good role model, emphasizing the importance of joint cooperation, etc.; and 4 friendly countries supported Taiwan's participation in the two-on-two debate procedure. Before the end of the meeting on the 22nd, China exercised its right of reply, criticizing countries that supported Taiwan as hype and violating the "one-China principle." The United States immediately exercised its right of reply to refute China, reiterating that the World Health Organization (WHO) should accept Taiwan.

Four countries, including Belize, Nauru, Eswatini, and the Marshall Islands, teh Republic of China's allies, participated in the "two-on-two debate" in the closed-door General Committee and General Assembly of the WHA, and participated in the debate with CCP China, Cuba, and Pakistan on the proposal for Taiwan. Li Guande, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that the Allies sternly refuted China's distortion of the UN General Assembly resolutions in the closed-door committee; Belize Health Minister Kevin Bernard said that UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 and WHA Resolution 25.1 only deal with the issue of Chinese representation. There is no doubt that only the Taiwan government has the right to be responsible for the health and well-being of the 23.5 million people in Taiwan, and ruling Taiwan out of WHA is ruling out injustice in Taiwan and posing a serious threat to global health.

The conference has entered the stage of speeches by various countries. On the 22nd, many countries expressed their support for Taiwan in the limited speech time.

Japan's Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, Mr. Honda Shouko, said: "When dealing with global health issues such as infectious disease control, we should learn from the good example of regions that have achieved success in public health, such as Taiwan. In order to prevent the spread of infectious diseases around the world, due to omission of specific region and create a geographic vacuum.”

Radek Policar, Deputy Minister of Legislative and Legal Affairs of the Czech Ministry of Health, said: "The Czech Republic reiterates that countries should respect the principle of equality and that all people must work together. Therefore, the Czech Republic fully supports Taiwan's participation in the World Health Assembly as an observer."

Will Quince, Deputy Health Minister of the United Kingdom, said, "We believe that the WHO can be stronger, but our ability to draw expertise from all over is still crucial. In this spirit, Taiwan should be allowed to become a WHA observer and opportunity to participate meaningfully in all relevant technical meetings."

Paul Kelly, Chief Medical Officer of the Australian Department of Health, said, "As the world moves towards the next phase of COVID-19, it is time for Australia to act to ensure we are prepared for the future. The importance of working together as partners to effectively address global health security concerns.”

Edwin Eduardo Montúfar Velarde, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health of Guatemala, said, "In the name of the Guatemala government and President Giammattei, I would like to thank the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and other partners for their continuous support to Guatemala. The health benefits of the Guatemala people are enormous, and Guatemala values Taiwan, the World Health Organization, and the Pan American Health Organization as important partners, and is grateful for the continuous support of the above-mentioned organizations.”

U.S. Surgeon General Xavier Becerra said, "The world has common health problems that require common solutions. The next potential pandemic and climate change are imminent. We have worked together in the past to pursue ambitious goals and successfully contained threats. In the future, we should work together again and bring together all constructive stakeholders who can function. The United States continues and strongly supports Taiwan's meaningful participation in the World Health Assembly and its wider participation in WHO-related work."

French Minister of Health and Prevention François Braum said, "We support all reforms aimed at improving budgetary governance, combating harassment or emergency response, also thanks to new tools that play an important role in the new global health architecture, such as President Macron and Dr. Tedros attach great importance to the World Health Organization Academy. Of course, this must benefit the entire international community. I would like to reiterate France's support for Taiwan's participation in the work of the World Health Assembly."

"Canada supports revising the International Health Regulations and building tools for international pandemics, which means creating a community in which all people can participate meaningfully The global health community is so vital, which is why Canada is calling for Taiwan to be included as an observer in the WHA."

Under the strong momentum of countries relaying support for Taiwan, CCP China exercised its right of reply before the end of the meeting on the 22nd, criticizing countries that support the Republic of China are violating relevant UN resolutions and the "one-China principle." Barbara De Rosa-Joynt, a senior health advisor to the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of International Organizations, immediately used the right of reply to refute CCP China. Supporting Taiwan is a successful example of fighting the epidemic and should be accepted by the WHO, reiterating the United States' firm support for Taiwan's long-standing policy of meaningful participation in international organizations such as the WHO.

Observing the nine issues of the World Health Assembly Xue Ruiyuan: Taiwan has even done more

The Social Welfare and Health Environment Committee of the Legislative Yuan also sent a delegation to Geneva this year. The committee held a video sharing meeting with the delegation yesterday afternoon. Xue Ruiyuan, Minister of Health and Welfare who also led the WHO mission to Geneva, emphasized in the meeting that he should observe the nine major issues raised by the WHA. It can be found that Taiwan has expertise, and many policy efforts are in line with WHO's goals, and even do more. Taiwan has the willingness and ability to provide experience to other countries for reference and deepen partnerships with other countries.

Taiwanese media Central News Agency reporters in Europe who applied to interview WHA were rejected. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed strong dissatisfaction on 23 May 2023. The Republic of China (Taiwan) Ministry of Foreign Affairs severely criticized the CCP government for putting pressure behind its back, saying that it takes care of the people of Taiwan, but doing all the evil deeds that hurt the people of Taiwan. The Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns it.

The World Health Assembly (WHA) is underway at the Geneva branch of the United Nations. A reporter from Central News Agency in Europe applied for this year's WHA interview permission. Because there was no "Republic of China" or "Taiwan" in the nationality menu, they applied under "Thailand" for permit notification and approval. However, a reporter from the Central News Agency was refused when he went to collect his interview card in the morning of the 22nd.

The UN staff said that they received pressure from Communist China a few days ago not to let them go. "We received pressure from China. The People's Republic of China told us that we need to see Chinese passports, or Taiwan passports plus a Taiwan Compatriot Permit can also be released."

The Foreign Ministry issued a press release on 23 May denouncing the pressure from the Chinese Communist government. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the United Nations has long refused to allow the Republic of China media reporters to enter the United Nations to cover and report on relevant United Nations meetings and activities. There is no right to freedom of opinion and expression, through any media and without frontiers".

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized that the United Nations Office in Geneva failed to act impartially under China's brutal pressure this time, and refused to allow the Republic of China media to interview WHA and expressed strong dissatisfaction with this. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns the Chinese government, which puts pressure behind it, and says it takes care of the people of Taiwan, but does everything it can to harm the people of Taiwan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again solemnly appeals to the United Nations to face up to the basic rights of Chinese media to cover UN meetings and activities, not to lose their position and give in to unreasonable political pressure from certain countries, and to change course as soon as possible to improve the discriminatory treatment of Chinese media from Taiwan.
