8/5Runway Cafe is first opened at 8/5 Car Park in November 2023 and it is located nearest to the runway of Phuket Airport. Initially, access is free-of-charge.
On 1 October 2024, the proprietor of 8/5Runway Cafe starts charging access fee of 80 Baht due to the overwhelming popularity of Phuket's only runway cafe.
The proprietor says in the past many tourists and locals came to the runway cafe for plane-spotting and chose not to eat the snacks and drinks sold by the cafe. Hence, it is decided that access fee is mandatory to control the crowd and maintain the profit line of the cafe.
On 17 December 2024, 8/5Runway Cafe is listed on the Spotters Guide as Spot 6.
