Since China's visa-free policy has extended to cover South Korea and Japan, the number of international passengers at Qingdao Airport has continued to rise. As of 15 December 2024, the total international and regional passenger throughput reached 2.53 million, doubling from the same period last year, and the number of passengers in the past week increased by 5.2% month-on-month. Among them, the number of international and regional passengers on 15 December 2024 was 10,200, the first time it exceeded 10,000 since the 2024 Spring Festival.

Taking advantage of the favourable opportunity of the visa-free policy for Japan and South Korea, Qingdao Airport actively expanded its route network, recently resumed the Fukuoka route, and increased the frequency of routes to Seoul (gateways Seoul-Gimpo and Incheon), Busan, Kansai, etc. At present, the average daily number of flights to and from South Korea has reached 34 flights, and the number of flights to Seoul has reached 30 flights per day; the average daily number of flights to and from Japan has reached 10 flights, and the number of flights to Kansai and Tokyo (gateways Haneda and Narita) has reached 6 flights and 3 flights per day respectively. The high-frequency flights in the "bus-like" operation mode effectively meet the business and leisure needs of passengers.

According to statistics, from 8 November to 15 December 2024, Qingdao Airport served a total of 46,600 foreign inbound passengers, a daily increase of 15.8% compared to the period before the policy was implemented; among them, visa-free travelers accounted for 60.9%.
