Thailand previously announced that it will open visa-free entry for tourists from Taiwan. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand announced earlier that starting from 1 December 2024, it will require tourists from visa-free countries and regions, including Taiwanese and Singaporeans to apply for an "Electronic Travel Authorization" (ETA) online before entering Thailand.
As for visa exemption, only tourists from Cambodia, Laos and Malaysia are exempted from applying for the ETA.
Foreign media reported that according to a statement from Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "This measure is one of Thailand's measures to ensure national security and strengthen tourist management without affecting Thailand's status as a major global tourist destination." In July, Thailand decided to add visa-free countries and regions, and this new system is Thailand’s new policy for travellers from visa-free countries.
However, starting from 1 December 2024, except for travelers from Cambodia, Laos and Malaysia, all travelers from visa-free countries and regions must apply for an "Electronic Travel Authorization" (ETA) before entering the country. Each permit is limited to a single entry. A single stay is 60 days and it can be extended up to 30 days.
There is no fee to apply for an "Electronic Travel Authorization" (ETA). Passengers only need to fill in the information on the designated website of the Thai government to apply. Passengers holding ETA can use the automatic customs clearance system at Thailand airports. They can enter the country by scanning the QR Code on the ETA, which greatly improves the speed of entry.
