According to a new study published on 14 October 2020, people of color in New Jersey are more likely to be infected with SARS-CoV-2 (CCP virus). In New Jersey, the rate of infection, hospitalization, and mortality of black and Hispanic residents with the CCP virus may be two to three times that of white residents.

The report found that black and Latino residents accounted for more than half of the "essential workers" after the outbreak of the CCP virus. Their work makes it easier to be exposed to dangerous environments. In addition, they are also more likely to engage in low-paying jobs, which means less medical insurance and less money to buy nutritious food. Due to the crisis, the unemployment rate of people of color is also higher, which has prevented some people from accessing health care.

The report calls on the state government to take action to help solve this problem and prepare for the next outbreak of the epidemic, such as increasing the diversity of the medical field, collecting more health data in minority communities, and providing subordinates to the State Department of Health. The Minority and Multicultural Health Office provides more funds. The report also found that among all counties in New Jersey, only Mercer County had a written response plan before the outbreak of the CCP virus.
