On Wednesday (21 October 2020), the Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, announced a phased SARS-CoV-2 (CCP virus) vaccination plan. In addition, the red closed zone in Queens was unblocked this week due to the decline in the infection rate.

The plan is carried out in two steps, first targeting medical staff, first-line and necessary industry employees, and vulnerable groups of health. The second step will be extended to the general public. The city government will continue to look for pharmacies, emergency centres, hospitals, and virus detection stations as vaccine providers and provide them with adequate vaccine-related training.

Halloween is coming soon, and De Blasio said that although the epidemic will make this day very different, activities in New York City are still safe. The city government gave some suggestions for safe activities, including asking for candies outside, not in the apartment building; putting the donated candies in a bucket instead of passing them by hand; pressing the doorbell and stepping back 6 feet; even if you bring them masks, also wear a mask; bring disinfectant and use it often.

In addition, some areas that have been banned at different levels by the state government because of the high infection rate have been lifted due to the drop in infection rate this week.

Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Wednesday that the current infection rate in the Autumn Hills, Forest Hills and Far Rockaway areas in Queens is 2.5% and 1.8%. Therefore, both the red and orange restricted areas are downgraded to yellow, and the yellow area remains unchanged. However, although the infection rate in the red zone in Brooklyn has declined, it still has 5.5%. Therefore, the ban on the red zone remains and the observation continues, but the orange zone will turn yellow.
