Dexamethasone is currently the only drug that has proven effective in treating patients with severe SARS-CoV-2 infection, said Tedros Adanom Gebrejesus, Director of the World Health Organization.

Currently, the corticosteroid dexamethasone  remains the only effective treatment in patients with severe manifestations. Tedros said, "Studies have shown that two drugs, remdesivir and interferon, do not have a significant effect on reducing mortality or hospitalization."

He also thanked the patients who participated in the WHO Solidarity Drug Test, as well as the medical institutions and countries that covered the cost of the study.
