In the afternoon of 23 April 2022, Hokkaido, Japan, a sightseeing ship carrying 26 people lost contact after it sank off the Shiretoko Peninsula. The Japan Coast Guard and the Air Self-Defense Force launched a search and rescue mission overnight after receiving the report. The latest progress at around 4 pm found a total of 10 people, of which 8 were unconscious and 2 were in unknown condition.

According to the news at 11 am on 24 April morning, 9 people were found, 7 of them were unconscious when they were sent to the hospital, and the status of the other 2 people was temporarily unknown.

The Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK) reported that the missing sightseeing boat "KAZU 1" is a small sightseeing boat operated by the "Shiretoko Cruise" company and can carry 65 people.  It departed from Utoro Port, Shari Town, Hokkaido at about 10 am on 23 April. The itinerary includes visiting waterfalls on the cliffs of Shiretoko Peninsula registered as a World Heritage Site, as well as watching wild animals such as bears and eagles. The itinerary was originally scheduled to return to the port at 1 pm on the same day.

The crew of "KAZU 1" lost contact at about 1.15 pm (12.15 pm Singapore time) that day after reporting that "the bow is flooded and will sink" and "the hull has tilted about 30 degrees". There were 26 people on the sightseeing boat, including a captain, a deckhand and 24 passengers, including two children. All 26 people are wearing life jackets, but the sea water temperature may only be about 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

At 5.55 pm on 23 April, a patrol ship of the Maritime Security Headquarters arrived in the area where the incident occurred to start a search and rescue mission. As of 6.30 pm on 23 April, 6 patrol boats and 4 helicopters have been put into search and rescue. At about 7.40 pm on 23 April, the Second Aviation Regiment of the Air Self-Defense Force also put in a U125 rescue search plane of the Chitose Rescue Team.

At 5.50 am on 24 April (4.50 am Singapore time), the police received a notification that the police helicopter found three people at the front end of Shiretoko Cape from the air. At 5.45 am, a Coast Guard plane spotted a person in the rocky area of Cape Shiretoko. After being rescued, the 4 people appeared unconscious and were rushed to the hospital.

The search and rescue operation ended at 11 am on 24 April, a total of 9 people were found, and 17 people are still to be searched and rescued.

NHK reported in the afternoon that in the latest search and rescue progress so far, 10 people from the missing sightseeing boat have been found; 8 of the 10 people are unconscious, and the condition of the other 2 people is unknown.

After verification by the Coast Guard, it was confirmed that all 26 passengers on board were of Japanese nationality and there were no foreigners.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who was originally scheduled to inspect Kumamoto City on the 24th, learned of the loss of the Hokkaido sightseeing boat and temporarily changed his itinerary, and decided to take the Self-Defense Force helicopter to return to the Prime Minister's Residence (Administration Center) in Tokyo to listen to the search and rescue report.

The Central News Agency quoted NHK as saying that the 1st District Maritime Security Headquarters announced the identities of the crew members on board today, including 54-year-old captain Toyoda Tokuyuki and 27-year-old deckman Zeng Shansheng. The names of the 24 passengers have not yet been released.

The Coast Guard stated that 5 of the 9 people found earlier were wearing life jackets; since the shipping company stated that all 26 people on board were wearing life jackets, the other 4 of the 9 people may have their life jackets falling off.

The Japanese government's Transportation Safety Committee has dispatched three ship accident investigators to the local area today to investigate the cause of the accident in detail.

According to the Maritime Security Headquarters of the First District, the sightseeing ship "KAZU 1" ran aground shortly after leaving the Utoro Port on 11 June 2021. There were 21 passengers and two crew members at that time (two of whom were two crew members). Fortunately, no one was injured, and the sightseeing boat left the shoal and returned to port on its own. The then 42-year-old captain was sent to the prosecution on a letter of alleged business negligence.

Japanese Prime Minister: Pay close attention to CCP's actions against Pacific island countries

Reporter : Zhang Ting / Editor : Gao Jing / https://www.epochtimes.com/gb/22/4/24/n13719329.htmImage : On 23 April 2022, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida (right) met with Tuvalu Prime Minister Kausea Natano. (various sources / AFP) / Japan OUT

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida met with Tuvalu Prime Minister Causea Natano on Saturday (23 April). Kausea Natano said after the meeting Japan is closely watching CCP China's actions against Pacific island countries.

CCP China's April 19th announcement that it had signed a security agreement with the South Pacific island nation of the Solomon Islands has made Japan, the United States, New Zealand and Australia concerned that such cooperation will have an impact on regional security. A draft of the agreement, which has been leaked, allows for the deployment of People's Liberation Army (PLA) troops to Solomon.

"We exchanged views on recent developments in Pacific region," Kishida told reporters Saturday after meeting with Natano, Kyodo news agency reported. He gave no further details of the meeting.

"We are closely monitoring China's actions in the Pacific Islands region," he said.

The U.S. has warned the Solomon Islands against any action that might invite China’s military presence, and other countries in the Pacific, such as Australia and New Zealand, have expressed concern.

During their meeting with Natano, Kishida agreed to aim for a "free and open" Indo-Pacific. An increasingly assertive CCP is expanding its influence there.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Water Summit in Kumamoto, Japan, where Kishida pledged about 500 billion yen ($3.9 billion) over the next five years to address water-related challenges such as prevention disaster.

Kishida told reporters that he also held separate talks with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and Lao PDR Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh, with whom he agreed to coordinate a response to the Ukraine crisis.

During the talks with Hun Sen, Kishida expressed appreciation for Cambodia's support, which co-sponsors a UN General Assembly resolution in March condemning Russia's aggression against Ukraine, according to Japan's foreign ministry.

Japan has been stepping up diplomatic activities to enhance coordination with other countries in the Indo-Pacific region, and has repeatedly said that what happened in Ukraine should not be tolerated.

Fumio Kishida said in a speech to new graduates at the National Defense Academy on March 27 in Kishida that Japan is determined to support Ukraine because the actions of Japan and other countries will determine the international community's future state amid continued Russian attacks on the Eastern European country.

Some foreign and defense experts believe that Russia's unilateral attack on Ukraine could push CCP to attack Taiwan. Kishida warned the CCP at the time that Japan would not allow the CCP’s hegemony.

"It is absolutely not allowed to unilaterally change the status quo by force in the Indo-Pacific region, especially East Asia," Kishida said.

Given CCP China's increasingly reckless attempts to unilaterally alter the status quo in the East and South China Seas in recent years, and North Korea's continuous ballistic missile launches, "the security environment around our country is clearly becoming more serious," Kishida said.

"Voice of April" wakes up Chinese people, the more they block the more they forward (video)

The video was blocked by the CCP's entire network. (Researcher's Picture)

"Voice of April", a short video that collected several recorded conversations during the Shanghai epidemic, was circulated on the Internet and was immediately blocked by the CCP authorities. However, netizens supported it, and this phenomenon and contest of "the more you block the more retweets" has attracted public attention.

The author of the "Voice of April" video "Forever Strawberry Garden" said on Weibo on 22 April 2022 that he "selected part of the audio of more than 20 events in early April and made a video, as a kind of objective as possible as possible. A real record to remember these voices in April, and I hope everyone can make it through."

The film is a black-and-white aerial shot of Shanghai in a plain style. It begins with a press conference by the Shanghai authorities on 15 March when the authorities announced that Shanghai "doesn't need to be locked down now."

On 26 March, another official went on to say at a press conference that Shanghai cannot be locked down. "Because Shanghai, our city, carries Shanghai that is not only the people of Shanghai themselves."

However, on 28 March, Shanghai was closed without warning.

The film brings together audio and video widely circulated on Chinese social media, showing the life plight and injustice faced by Shanghai people after the city was locked down, including material shortages, donated food being resold, children and their parents being forced to be separated and quarantined, pets killed, sick, the officials of the control centre complained that the epidemic prevention policy was unreasonable, the officials of the neighbourhood committee cried and complained that the superiors had no countermeasures, the mother held the baby in the middle of the night to search for medicine, the patients could not get timely assistance, and the environment of the square cabin hospital was poor. However, just such a video that was rated as "gentle", "tearful", or even "positive energy" by netizens without any comments was deleted by the entire network, and the original author's official account and video account were deleted. "Voice of April" and "April" were both censored as sensitive words, and even the hot topic "Shanghai Silence" created by Weibo netizens was soon officially banned.

However, the "Voice of April" has triggered the phenomenon of "the more you block the more retweeted", which has attracted international media attention.

Radio Free Asia described "Voice of April": "The harder it is blocked, the more violent it is."

French radio station asked, "Who is afraid of 'Voice of April'?"

The Voice of America said that the "Voice of April" was blocked, and Chinese netizens were angry.

Some Twitter netizens said that they had never seen such a scene, "A video was reposted crazily in the circle of friends, and it has reached 10w+ reposts in half a day. The original post was quickly deleted, but in exchange for it was a collective protest from Shanghai citizens... If you are the one who covers your mouth, are you afraid? Defending the people's mouth is better than defending the river... I am in Shanghai, and I am worthy of being remembered today."

Some people made a poster of "Voice of April Voice" with the words "Voice of State", and the design of the Chinese character "Shen" (for State) was two tapes attached to the word "mouth" to accuse Shanghai of banning speech.

Qin Peng, the host of the self-media "Qin Peng Live", said on 23 April that the CCP is afraid of this short video as it will inspire people to take to the streets, to overthrow them.

In addition to "Voice of April," the Chinese national anthem has also been censored. A report in the French newspaper Le Monde said, "It is super ironic that China blocked its own "March of the Volunteers" a week ago. The reason was that it "contains radical political or ideological content."

According to the report, the lyrics of the Chinese national anthem may have incitement to rebellion: "Rise, people who don't want to be slaves... When the Chinese nation is at its most dangerous, everyone is forced to make a final roar. Rise! Rise! Rise!"

It is believed that Wang Sicong, the second-generation rich man who was trapped in Shanghai, made a protest statement on Weibo: "The nucleic acid test every morning is not positive or negative, but your servility and blood." He was immediately banned from Weibo. .

Miao Xiaohui, a former military doctor in Shanghai, has also been posting on Weibo, calling for an end to the zero-clearing measures. He shouted to the authorities: "If it can be cleared, he will cut his wrists to apologize."

Although the experience of many Shanghainese is sympathetic, there are also people who are outraged. Online writer Shen Yan said: "Many celebrities and elites in Shanghai cry for their parents and don't even know how to die. Among them are famous writers, violinists, 18-year vice presidents of online securities, retired prosecutors, and others. The parents of a famous screenwriter who has always listened to D, the mother of a famous economist, a white-collar beauty who ovulates when she sees Odin, a small official who has been loyal for most of her life but ended up in the office... First-class IQ and first-class emotional intelligence, but unfortunately It's a lack of awareness."

A foreign self-media person "Lao Lei" is a China expert. He recommends that all netizens go to see "Voice of April", and can pass it on to others, but he is also not optimistic about how many people will awaken in China. He said that there are many people protesting or criticizing the government on the Internet, but after the tragic history of Shanghai has passed, the vast majority of Chinese people will leave it alone. He said he would feel helpless if that turned out to be the case. (click to watch video)

A netizen responded, "Every time it boils, there are always a few water molecules, and they never go back to that pot again."

Another netizen agreed, "Well said, because of this, all resistance is meaningful, even if only one person is awakened!"

Shanghai's sealing control has been upgraded again, and many districts have used iron nets and steel plates to seal doors and roads

Since the outbreak of the epidemic in Shanghai, the closure and control measures of the epidemic area have been continuously upgraded. Use barbed wire and hard steel plates to block roads and gates.

Mainland Caixin reported that Pudong will implement "hard isolation" from the closed area and buildings on 23 April. The measures include using color steel plates or barbed wire to cut off streets in closed communities and roads between towns and towns, leaving only the main road with the fast lane through.

The "hard isolation" measure for buildings is to close the gate of the covi-positive unit and the entire building where it is located with hard isolation facilities such as colour steel plates or barbed wire, and only open an emergency door for epidemic prevention personnel to enter and exit.

Not only Pudong, but also some areas in Puxi have begun to adopt such "hard isolation" measures, including many communities in Xuhui District and Minhang District. Once positive people are found, they will implement "hard isolation" on their buildings.

This is another tougher closure and control measure that Shanghai has taken on infected areas since the outbreak. Prior to this, Shanghai officials initially promised not to close the city, but then successively adopted various disguised city closure measures such as Pudong and Puxi district closures, as well as global static management.

The recent implementation of this "hard isolation" method has brought more risks to the lives and safety of the people in the closed area. Residents are worried about whether the government can take emergency measures to ensure the safety of residents if there is a fire in the building or emergency medical treatment after the implementation of "hard isolation".

On the day of the implementation of "hard isolation", in the evening of 23 April, a fire broke out in the community of Lane 85, Changdao Road, Pudong New Area. According to the video provided by netizens, the fire on the first floor of the community continued to burn to multiple floors, and the fire and black smoke in the corridor could be seen from outside the building. However, due to too many obstacles in the closed area, the fire rescue was affected.

A 27-year-old woman in Qinghai fell to her death in an isolation hotel and called her brother before she died, "Come and save me"

Reporter : Luo Tingting / Editor :Zhu Xinrui / https://www.ntdtv.com/gb/2022/04/24/a103408615.html

Recently, a lady in Xining City, Qinghai Province fell to her death from a quarantine hotel. Before she died, she called her brother to ask for help: "Brother, come and save me." The local police informed after the incident that the girl died accidentally after falling from the building, ruling out the possibility of homicide.

Qinghai Xining Public Security Bureau issued a notice on 23 April that Wei Jinxia, a 27-year-old girl from Gaolan County, Gansu, fell from a building in a quarantined hotel in the city on March 17. She died at 2 am on the 18th after being sent to the hospital for rescue.

The notice stated that after investigation, Wei Jinxia was wearing a window screen in an isolated hotel room and wanted to leave the isolation room. During the process of climbing down from the window on the third floor, she accidentally fell from the building and died, ruling out the possibility of homicide.

Wei Jinxia's brother revealed to mainland media that his sister and her boyfriend were taken to a hotel for quarantine after they left the train station on 12 March. During the period, Wei Jinxia complained to him that the isolation hotel was abnormal, and suspected that the hotel staff framed her to get sick and monitored her speech.

The chat records of Wei Jinxia's brother's mobile phone show that on 13 March, Wei Jinxia's nucleic acid test in the quarantine hotel was negative.

Wei Jinxia's brother said, "On the 16th, my sister suddenly called me and said that not only did the urine test in the quarantine hotel, but also nucleic acid testing in the middle of the night."

At 5:38 pm on 17 April, Jinxia suddenly sent him a string of messages, saying, "Brother, I'm worried, I want to run out, there is a window, I want to run out." "Because they came to take the temperature, over and over again. Let me measure." "I'm afraid they will frame me and say I'm sick."

Wei Jinxia's brother said that her sister was very flustered and said, "Hurry up, or her life will be in danger."

He said that after an hour, he could no longer contact his sister. Then I received a call from the police to inform my sister that she had fallen from the building.

He also said that after his sister's accident, he still does not know the whereabouts of his sister's boyfriend.

On the day of the incident, the quarantine hotel involved responded that it would not accept quarantine personnel for the time being.

The news of a Qinghai girl accidentally falling from a hotel in isolation has sparked heated discussions on the Internet. Weibo netizen "all beautiful men" said, "Oh my God! The chat records look so scary, how helpless at the time."

"Hu Jiangbo is in Beijing" said, "Urine test may mean drug-related."

"Grandma Zhao"  said, "A woman who fell to her death for unknown reasons, her boyfriend who disappeared mysteriously, and a reporter's copy written on the wall."

Recruiting a large number of "Dabai" foreign media reveal the inside story

Under the covid epidemic, the only employment growth area of the Chinese economy appeared in epidemic control work.

According to NPR, Chen Haonan, a former real estate salesman in Shenzhen, found a new job through a temporary recruitment agency after the real estate industry suffered a severe winter in Shenzhen by the end of 2021. During the lockdown, he became a health worker — conducting nucleic acid tests on local residents for months.

The sluggish economy and increasing regulations have shrunk many industries in China—real estate, technology, education and training, and created a wave of job losses. Labour agencies have also seen this trend and adjusted their direction, recruiting unemployed migrant workers in large numbers to fill the current new gap in the labor market - to participate in the control of the covid epidemic although this type of work is also unstable and even income is not stable. Not high, there is still the risk of infection.

These migrant workers are commonly known as "big white" because they are covered with white protective clothing from head to toe. In China, these big whites are ubiquitous and are an important part of the implementation of the CCP's zero-covid policy.

In the recent outbreaks in Jilin Province and Shanghai, hundreds of thousands of people were officially reported to have been infected. Under the requirement of the zero-clearing policy, all of them must be quarantined in a centralized manner. At the same time, large-scale nucleic acid tests were carried out in residential areas, and large areas of communities and places were even blocked. and the whole city.

News (8)

"Dabai" migrant workers were asked to drink water from the river without water

This requires tens of thousands of workers. Chen Haonan was transferred from Shenzhen to work at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai in early April, which has been converted into an isolation point (square cabin hospital) to accommodate 15,000 fever patients.

"We were trained by other volunteers, but they were not health professionals and were not familiar with the procedures," Chen Haonan told NPR.

He was shocked by the poor conditions there.

"My biggest worry is that they can't guarantee my health," Chen Haonan said. "There are already other workers who are covi-positive, but we still have to sleep next to them, and four of them sleep in a leaky room."

Instead of being treated, workers who contracted the virus were reassigned to guard or pick up trash at the convention center, but no longer looked after those inside, he said.

Their dormitory is just outside the convention center and has no running or drinking water. When Chen Haonan and other workers asked the labor service company to provide bottled water, his manager asked them to drink water from a nearby river.

In mid-April, Chen Haonan's self-test showed that he tested positive for covid. His throat was itchy but he did not get a chance to rest, he could not leave the convention center without permission, and his official diagnosis was still pending.

Dabai temporary workers traveled all over the place, and some were trapped

Just like the previous generation of migrant workers jumping from one city to another to meet seasonal labor needs, now the "Dabai" migrant workers take turns from one blockade to another, and wherever there is an epidemic, they go to fill There are job vacancies there.

A man surnamed Lu asked NPR to use only his surname for fear of official retaliation.

After losing his job at a metal shop during the pandemic, Lu signed up for a temporary job with the Shenzhen government to conduct nucleic acid testing and monitor apartment buildings to make sure no residents sneak out of their homes. Working in two six-hour shifts a day, his income is 600 RMB a day, about twice his normal income.

However, this sporadic and sometimes dangerous work is not protected by law.

When Shanghai was closed down, the recruitment agency arranged for him to "sweep the building" -- going door-to-door to persuade unwilling residents to undergo nucleic acid testing. But after arriving in Shanghai, the temporary labor agency that hired him asked to take most of his salary as an intermediary fee for recruiting.

After feeling cheated by a labour agency, he and 100 workers protested outside the district government building in Shanghai's Xuhui district on Sunday, but were quickly dispersed by police on the grounds that they were inciting to disrupt public order. Some workers who have no way to find employment had to sleep in Shanghai railway station, because of the epidemic, they could not leave the city.

Sent directly to quarantine without training

When the dynamic clearing policy started, Huang Bowen's e-commerce marketing job was gone, and there was a job opportunity to go to Shanghai to be a big white - conducting nucleic acid tests for residents locked at home.

When he took the 20-hour bus to Shanghai, the bus took them directly to a makeshift shelter, not the residential building he expected.

"This is not the kind of work we were promised! All of us are afraid to enter the quarantine point without proper health training," Bowen Huang said.

These angry migrant workers are in a dilemma. In Shanghai, they have no relatives, no jobs, nowhere to live, many public transport services have been shut down, and even if they return, they are not welcome - most cities are reluctant to accept people who have recently been to Shanghai people.

Sometimes they work at one location for several weeks and then go to the next location for at least 2 weeks of quarantine. If they're lucky, they'll be paid for work in quarantine once their term expires. But if they get sick, they won't get any care.

"The conditions are terrible. The authorities insisted that I be quarantined here for four weeks, despite the national policy of only two weeks," said Shi Wantian, who was in Langfang this year when the outbreak broke out in Langfang, not far from Beijing, working in a square cabin hospital.

In less than a week, he contracted the virus but the cabin where he worked would not accept him. In the end, he was detained in an isolation point not connected to municipal facilities, in a metal room with windows.

"I used to work in a factory that made auto parts. During the lockdown, my work stopped, so I volunteered to work in the shelter. Now the lockdown is over, but I'm in this state." Shi Wantian lamented.

"Smoking" has a 50% higher risk of severe illness, CECC relaxes the availability of oral drugs

The local epidemic in the Republic of China continues to spread. For the preparation and use of drugs, the command center has included "smoking" as a high risk factor for severe illness. The reason is that it is found in international literature that people who smoke or have quit smoking have a higher risk of developing severe disease after diagnosis than non-smokers are 1.5 times higher, which is equivalent to a 50% increase in the probability of serious illness, and will also be considered as subjects that can be considered for relaxation of oral drugs.

Luo Yijun, deputy head of the medical response team of the command center, said "(international literature) People who smoke or have quit smoking, and who have quit smoking, have a risk of severe illness after contracting covid, which is about 1.5 times that of non-smokers. So in this discussion, there is a high risk factor for severe illness to include it.”

It increases the probability of severe illness by 50%. Smoking is included as a high-risk factor for severe illness. It will also be considered as a factor for an oral drug, and the groups who use it will be relaxed. The new guidelines include new additions and exclusions.

Luo Yijun, deputy head of the medical response team of the command centre, said, "In the previous version, hypertension was listed as a high-risk factor, but this version has removed it and revised it to BMI greater than or equal to 30. Some adjustments have been made in this part."

Whether it will be severe or not, whether it is vaccinated or not is also the key. The recent virus invasion of the campus has also forced schools to strengthen their defense lines. The Ministry of Education sent a letter to the high school and below. Zhou should provide a negative report of rapid screening or PCR. As for those who have been diagnosed, they should hold a notice of separation within 3 months, and the vaccination certificate can be temporarily exempted.

Taiwan must coexist with the virus but it should not be rushed too quickly. Some people have reported that in the civil service examination of the Examination Department, candidates are required to take off their masks to verify their identity. Will this not be risky?

Chen Shizhong, commander of the Epidemic Command Centre, said, "But if it is really necessary to take off your mask to verify your identity, you should also consider maintaining a good social distance with other people. Others must wear masks, and the verification party is adding a mask. I think that will be no problem.”

The Minister asked everyone not to worry too much. As for the annual academic conference, insist on holding it during the epidemic period and not postpone it or change it online. Chen Shizhong said that it was not banned in the first place, and it is good to do a good job in epidemic prevention.

Turkish Foreign Minister Kav Soglu told Turkish media on a special plane bound for Uruguay that Turkey has closed its airspace to Syria to Russian civilian and military aircraft for three months. Russia did not immediately respond to Turkey's announcement.

Turkish media quoted Mevlut Cavusoglu as saying, "We have closed airspace to Syria for Russian military aircraft - and even civil aircraft. We asked in March that they can fly until April. "
Kavsoglu said he had conveyed the decision to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who in turn forwarded it to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Cavsoglu added that the ban will be in place for three months. He also told reporters that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had informed Putin of the decision.

He also added that discussions on resuming flights would be included in negotiations on the Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits. The pact, an international agreement governing maritime traffic in the Black Sea, guarantees unrestricted access to the Black Sea for civilian ships in peacetime, but allows Turkey to close the Bosporus Strait and Dada to military ships during war Dardanelles Strait.

The ban is one of Turkey's toughest responses so far to Russia's two-month-old invasion of Ukraine, the Central News Agency reported. Although Turkey is a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), it maintains close ties with Russia.

During the Syrian civil war, Russia and Iran have always been Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's vital supporter; Turkey has been backing Syrian rebels.

Relations between Ankara and Moscow briefly collapsed after Turkey shot down a Russian warplane near the Turkish-Syrian border in 2015 but the relationship was restored until Russia invaded Ukraine, which Turkey views as an important trading partner and diplomatic ally.

Turkey has been coordinating efforts to end the conflict, hosting a Russian-Ukrainian negotiating meeting in Istanbul and a meeting in Antalya between Lavrov and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

Ankara is currently trying to arrange a summit between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, although Kavsoglu admits that prospects for such talks remain bleak at this point.

"If they want to make a deal, it's bound to happen," Cavsoglu said, according to media reports. He said, "may take a long time to happen, but it could also happen all of a sudden." .

[NTD, Beijing, April 25, 2022] Less than a quarter of severely ill covid patients recover fully a year after hospitalization, experts warn, according to a new study on long covid that may become a common disease.

A study published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine on Sunday (24 April 2022) looked at the number of people discharged from 39 UK hospitals between March 2020 and April 2021. The health of 807 covid patients and their recovery was assessed five months and one year after discharge.

Only 26% of patients hospitalized with covid reported a complete recovery five months after being discharged from the hospital, and the recovery rate rose only marginally to 28.9% a year later, the report showed.

Study co-author Christopher Brightling from the University of Leicester, UK, said, "Without effective treatments, long covid could emerge as a new, highly prevalent long-term disease. ."

Even one year after leaving the hospital, many people with long-term covid experience severe symptoms, including "decreased exercise capacity and a substantial decline in health-related quality of life," the report noted. The most common long-term covid symptoms include fatigue, muscle pain, poor sleep, physical slowing and difficulty breathing.

Co-author of the study  Rachel Evans, an expert at the UK's National Institute for Health and Care Research, said, "In our study, recovery in symptoms, mental health, exercise capacity, organ damage, and quality of life was shockingly limited between five months and a year after hospitalization."

Breitling called for a strong health service to support this large and rapidly growing cohort of covid patients.

The study, which involved more than 2,300 people, also found that  covi has disproportionately affected women, who have a 33 percent lower chance of a full recovery than men. People who are obese and who require mechanically assisted breathing are less likely to recover fully.

The study, which will be presented at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, is ongoing and continues to monitor the health of patients.

Surge in agoraphobia cases

In recent days, U.S. doctors have also discovered one of the unintended effects of the pandemic — a surge in agoraphobia cases. The situation has forced countless Americans to stay at home, said Dr. Gary Grosel, chief medical officer of Ohio UnitedHealthcare.

Agoraphobia is defined by the National Institute of Mental Health as "an anxiety disorder that includes an intense fear and anxiety".

Agoraphobia affects up to 2 percent of adults and teens in the U.S. at any age, and Grossell said women under the age of 35 are more susceptible to the disorder. If left untreated, agoraphobia can lead to loneliness, depression and alcoholism.

11 dead in Hokkaido sightseeing boat sinking after bad weather

A sightseeing ship in Hokkaido, Japan was wrecked on 23 April and 26 people on board lost contact. The latest news is that a child's body was found late at night on the 24th, making the incident a mystery. The death toll rose to 11. Some colleagues have criticized the industry's ill-conceived sightseeing behavior when going to sea in bad weather.

The missing sightseeing ship "KAZU 1" carried 24 passengers, including two children, on the 23rd, and two other crew members, a total of 26 people, went to visit the Shiretoko Peninsula.

Search and rescue crews continued to use aircraft and patrol boats to search today. Local fishing boats at Utoro Port were also mobilized, and rescuers searched along the winding coastline.

So far, search and rescue personnel have not found the missing sightseeing boat. The Coast Guard said it was difficult to tell what happened until more evidence or the wreckage of the ship was found.

According to Japanese media reports, the local waves were very high on the 23rd, and even the local fishing boats operating at sea were forced to return to the port before the accident. At the time of the accident, the missing boat reported that it had entered the water and was tilted 30 degrees, and lost contact shortly after.

Local officials said drift ice could be seen in local waters as late as March, and the water temperature is now about 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. Fishing officials say that just a few minutes in such water can start to blur people's consciousness.

The Central News Agency quoted the Hokkaido Shimbun as reporting that the sightseeing boat set sail from the Utoro Fishing Port in Shari Town. A person from the local fishery cooperative group (similar to a fishery cooperative) said that they could not go to the scene of the accident because of the poor walrus. They were all on standby in the port to assist in search and rescue, but were unable to leave the port because the waves were too high.

According to local tide information, at 1 p.m. on the 23rd, the height of the waves in Utoro, Shari Town, was about 1.9 meters.

The Sapporo District Meteorological Observatory said that although a sea storm cannot be said to have occurred, the waves appeared to have suddenly increased.

Many fishermen did not go out to fish on the 23rd. One fisherman said that because they knew that the walrus was bad, everyone decided to give up their operations and return to the port soon after going out to sea. "In this case, the sightseeing boat still leaves the port. I think it may be a bit too reckless" .

In addition, according to the same industry, this is not the first time the industry has still gone to sea in bad weather, and joked that the "Kazu 1", which can go out to sea no matter how bad the weather is, is simply a "submarine".

The current captain, Tokuyuki Toyoda, who had the accident, complained on the social networking site three weeks ago, saying that he "lost his way in a black-hearted enterprise", but he did not expect a tragedy to happen now.

Tomio Kaneko, director of the Japan Civil Defense Association, criticized this tragedy as "completely ill-conceived tourism behavior. The industry prioritized making money, and the company ignored the accident caused by the rules."
