The results of the nine-in-one election came out, and the DPP faced another setback. It only won 4+1 counties and cities, defended Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Chiayi County, Pingtung County, and took back Penghu County. President Tsai Ing-wen, who is also the chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party, and Secretary-General Lin Xiyao held a press conference on "2022 Local Election Results" at the Central Party Headquarters in the evening. Tsai Ing-wen announced her resignation as party chairman with immediate effect.

Tsai Ing-wen said that on behalf of the Democratic Progressive Party, she would like to thank all the people for their support. The election results were not as expected, and she humbly accepted the election results and the decisions of the people of Taiwan. As the chairperson of the ruling party, she is very grateful for the united efforts of the entire party. She accepts all responsibilities and resigns as party chairman with immediate effect.

Although the central government has worked hard in governing, in the face of such a result, DPP has many areas that need to be deeply reviewed. They have not broken through the existing local political structure, which shows that their local management still has a big gap with the expectations of the people.

Tonight’s municipal, county and mayoral election results show that the KMT won 13 local Bailihou seats (Chiayi City has not yet voted). Wen, Xia Liyan, and party officials held a press conference. First of all, they bowed deeply to express their gratitude to the people of Taiwan for their support. Zhu Lilun also shouted to President Tsai Ing-wen that she still had nearly one and a half years in office, "Come back and be president! Don't just Be the chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party!"

Zhu Lilun criticized Tsai Ing-wen only for power and disregarded the well-being of the whole people. He hoped that Tsai Ing-wen would stop being the chairman of the DPP who fights every day for the sake of one party.

Zhu Lilun said that this election campaign tells the KMT that only by following the right path, nominating the right people, and more importantly, uniting and working hard, can the people of Taiwan give the KMT a chance. Including himself, everyone must be firm in their beliefs and walk the right path. He also guaranteed that the Kuomintang will nominate the right person in the future, hold the spirit of selflessness, and dedicate to the people of Taiwan. Only in this way can the Kuomintang have a chance to win in the 2024 general election.

He also emphasized that the election campaign is not over yet. On 18 December 2022 there will be voting for the Chiayi mayoral election, and there will be by-elections for the Taipei City and Nantou County Legislative Committees. The whole party must fully support the candidates nominated by the party. There is a little space to relax, and everyone must unite to win every victory.

Zhu Lilun left immediately after speaking. Facing the media asking when he would start the party's presidential nomination process, and what to do with the 16 mayors of the 16 counties whose election results did not meet his promise, he did not turn around to respond.

Zhu Lilun said that he would like to thank the people for standing up for kindness, justice, and justice, so that Taiwan's democracy can be demonstrated. This election is not only a victory for the Kuomintang, but a victory for the people of Taiwan and Taiwan's democracy, and also victory for all non-green camps.

In addition to thanking all the KMT candidates and their teams, Zhu Lilun also specifically thanked Kaohsiung mayoral candidate Ke Zhien, Tainan mayor candidate Xie Longjie, Pingtung county magistrate candidate Su Qingquan, and Chiayi county magistrate candidate Wang Yumin, who ran in difficult constituencies. He also paid tribute to the people in these difficult constituencies. He promised that the KMT will definitely come back in four years and turn the green land into blue sky.

Zhu Lilun said that this battle was not easy, especially in Taoyuan, Taipei and Keelung. The KMT candidates tried their best to win all the justice and kindness in the face of the endless resources of the DPP and various smears. These comrades and their teams are truly heroes worthy of applause.

At the same time, Zhu Lilun also thanked New Taipei Mayor Hou Youyi and Taichung Mayor Lu Xiuyan for leading the re-election team of the Blue Camp. They showed good work, down-to-earth, and won public recognition for their political achievements. The Party Central Committee only played the role of supporting role, election assistant, cheerleader and head coach.

Scholars: 9-in-1 voting rate DPP loses big, non-KMT wins big

Taiwan’s nine-in-one general election has come to an end, and the National Policy Council held a symposium on Monday (28 November). Scholars analyzed that the main reason for the ruling party's defeat was the historically low turnout rate, retaliatory votes by supporters of the opposition party, and supporters of the ruling party did not come out to vote as punishment.

Guo Yuren, executive director of the National Policy Research Institute: "Locked-type (epidemic prevention) policies have been used for too long, which will give the rulers an illusion. This illusion also inspired this time, opposition party supporters voted retaliatoryly, because this epidemic prevention policy is useless. Discrimination, indiscrimination means that the negative effects on your supporters and opponents are the same, so those who support the opposition party will come out to retaliate and vote to support the supporters of the Democratic Progressive Party, It tends to (punitively) not come out to vote, so this kind of contrasting effect is very large.”

Wang Zhisheng, secretary-general of the China Asia-Pacific Elite Exchange Association: "Compared to 2018 and 2020, the Kuomintang votes have actually grown very limited, about 3.2% more than 2020, from 5.52 million votes (in 2020) to 5.7 million votes in (2022); but compared with the 8.17 million votes at the peak of the DPP in 2020, only 4.74 million votes are left this time, about 42% lost. This back and forth is equal to 45% of the votes. With a turnout rate below 60%, the KMT still maintains. The flatness of the votes means that the votes of the Kuomintang are completely catalyzed, while the votes of the DPP, including middle voters, grassroots votes and even young votes, seem to be losing very seriously, so why do I say it belongs to the DPP? A defeat is not necessarily a victory for the KMT.”

Zhang Jiajian, Assistant Professor of the Institute of China and Asia-Pacific Regions, Sun Yat-sen University: "(at least at the beginning of the year) in the national survey of political party identification, the DPP is currently at least close to 30%, but of course I want to say that in this information, the largest group is No statement, probably close to 40%, so the KMT has about 15%." "As for the only achievement that the ruling party can admire (in the 2022 general election), I personally think it is epidemic prevention. Australia's Morrison government this year, the original ruling party , the first prime minister in history who has been in office for three years, he also stepped down. Last year, Australia was considered to be a country with effective performance in epidemic prevention, but when you open up today, the number of cases increases, and when the number of deaths naturally increases, that is, when it is about to return to a normal state, people will start to evaluate the epidemic prevention effectiveness, and then if you have other performances at this time, there will be a gap in people's expectations. Then maybe when you vote, you feel that you need to score your governance ability, of course it’s not good to look at the score.”

Luo Zhizheng, a member of the DPP Legislature: "So getting out of the stratosphere must be the first important step in the review, not just closing the door and doing a self-review, because that is the result of the stratosphere review."
