Shenyang to Wuhu ticket costs only 9 RMB, China's civil aviation recovery is difficult

The air ticket price of the direct flight from Shenyang to Wuhu by Spring Airlines is as low as RMB 9, which has aroused public attention. Under the influence of the resurgence of the epidemic, the surge in international oil prices and the continuous depreciation of the RMB, China's civil aviation has suffered serious losses, and many airlines are insolvent. Although there were some turning points in the second half of the year, the aforementioned factors impacting the civil aviation industry have not improved significantly, and the recovery of China's aviation industry is still difficult.

Recently, some Chinese netizens broke the news in the online community that the air ticket from Shenyang Taoxian International Airport to Wuhu Wuxuan Airport in Anhui is only RMB 9. The news aroused the onlookers of many netizens, which in turn attracted the attention of public opinion.

On 1 November 2022, the relevant person in charge of Spring Airlines said that the news of the RMB 9 ticket is true, and not only the Wuhu-Shenyang route, but also the tickets of Wuhu-Fuzhou and Wuhu-Shijiazhuang routes costs also as low as RMB 9. The person in charge then explained that this is a special offer for Spring Airlines to enter Wuhu Wuxuan Airport in Anhui Province. The main purpose is to cultivate the habit of flying.

Chutian Metropolis Daily further inquired and found that on the ticketing platform, there are many platforms that continue to offer discounts for RMB 9 air tickets, and some platforms even offer discounts to RMB 3.

According to the data, Spring Airlines Co., Ltd. is an airline in China started by a travel agency, and it is also the first low-cost airline wholly owned by private capital in China.

Although Spring Airlines explained that the RMB 9 ticket is a special offer for flight, the need for an airline to attract passengers with ultra-low prices as low as single digits still reflects the current downturn in China's aviation industry.

Since the beginning of this year, the covid epidemic in China has begun to spread across the country again. Although the Omicron strains that have been mutated and their lethality has been greatly reduced are now widely spread, the CCP government still requires all provinces and cities to implement the policy of "dynamic clearing". They hurriedly ordered the implementation of various levels of blockade control measures, and staged the drama of closing cities and villages in turn. Many people were forced to cancel their travel plans, and the tourism industry and civil aviation business were severely affected.

According to a report from China Business News, at the national civil aviation mid-year work video conference held in early July, Song Zhiyong, the new director of the Civil Aviation Administration, revealed that in the first half of this year, the daily flight volume of China's civil aviation transportation industry was at its lowest, with only 2,967 flights. 17.8% in the same period in 2019, the overall loss reached RMB 108.9 billion.

Song Zhiyong said frankly that since the epidemic, China's civil aviation industry has accumulated losses of nearly RMB 300 billion, and "the loss in the first half of this year alone exceeds the total loss in 2020 and 2021. As of now, the asset-liability ratio of domestic airlines has reached 82.2%, which is higher than before the epidemic, it increased by 11.9 percentage points, and at least 12 airlines have asset-liability ratios exceeding 100%."

According to the data released by the Civil Aviation Administration of China: in the first half of this year, the total turnover of CCP China's civil aviation transportation was 29.34 billion ton-kilometers, a year-on-year decrease of 37.0%, while this level was only 46.7% of the same period in 2019; the passenger transportation volume was 118 million, which was 2019. In the same period of 36.7%, Chinese airlines generally suffered serious losses. Among them, China's three major airlines - Air China, China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines have set a record for losses. Air China had the highest net loss of RMB 19.435 billion, followed by China Eastern Airlines with a loss of RMB 18.736 billion and China Southern Airlines with a net loss of RMB 11.488 billion. The total loss of the three major airlines in the first half of the year has reached RMB 49.659 billion which has exceeded the total loss of RMB 40.959 billion in 2021.

In addition to the impact of the epidemic, the increase in jet fuel prices and the depreciation of the RMB have also led to increased costs for airlines.

Jet fuel expenditure is the most important cost item for airlines. Since the beginning of this year, the international crude oil price has fluctuated greatly, but the general trend is a sharp increase. The ex-factory price of crude oil was as high as 9,845 yuan / ton, which was twice that of the same period last year, which has a great impact on the operating costs of Chinese airlines.

Since the beginning of this year, the RMB has experienced a sharp depreciation. Since Chinese airlines are burdened with a large amount of US dollar debt, the fluctuation of the exchange rate of RMB against the U.S. dollar has a great impact on the debt of airlines.

Air China data shows that every 1% appreciation or depreciation of the RMB will lead to an increase or decrease of about RMB 319 million in the group's net profit and shareholders' equity, respectively.

In the second half of this year, with the gradual recovery of international routes, China's aviation market has shown signs of recovery, and air passenger traffic has begun to grow. The official said that the domestic civil aviation industry is expected to gradually recover in the second half of the year. However, there is still a significant gap between the performance of China's three major airlines in the second half of the year and the level before the epidemic, in terms of operational efficiency indicators such as passenger turnover, passenger load factor, and unit revenue. Moreover, the three core factors affecting the development of civil aviation - the epidemic, oil prices and the RMB exchange rate - still have great uncertainties, making the recovery of China's civil aviation difficult.

As Foxconn employees flee, Zhengzhou loosens covid restrictions on the surface

Last weekend, a large number of workers at the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou fled the "closed-loop" isolation system. The video of workers turning over the isolation wall and walking on the highway with luggage shocked the Internet.

Foxconn issued a notice on Tuesday (1 November) saying that to "gradually resume orderly production", those employees who worked "full-strength" in November, including those who forgo any vacation, could receive a bonus of more than RMB 15,000. The typical monthly income of a worker is only more than RMB 3,000.

According to Caixin.com, the Zhengzhou Epidemic Prevention and Control Headquarters said on Tuesday that from 6 am on the same day, the original control area will be lifted, the control strategy will be adjusted, and the normal production and living order will be restored in an orderly manner. Among them, the most concerned adjustment is that since the announcement of the announcement, the "temporary control areas for spillover prevention" delimited by the development zones, districts and counties (cities) in Zhengzhou have been lifted.

A few days ago, on 27 October, the Zhengzhou authorities stated that the current epidemic-related control areas in Zhengzhou were divided into three categories, namely "high and high risk areas", "temporary closure and control areas", and "anti-spill temporary control areas". ".

On Tuesday, the official WeChat account of the Zhengzhou Municipal Health and Health Commission released the article "Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia (Covid) is not terrible, preventable and curable, Zhengzhou authoritative experts will answer", saying that the disease is a self-limiting disease.

Regarding the prevention and control adjustments made by the Zhengzhou authorities, local residents said on social media that the authorities were just showing off and loosening restrictions on the surface but in fact it was just to avoid greater pressure and accusations.

Meanwhile, the term "performative unblocking" is widely popular on Weibo.

Zhengzhou has implemented strict restrictions since early October, with nucleic acid tests being conducted once a day, and residents have complained. A video that went viral on Weibo showed community managers fighting against residents (see the video here).

Mainland and Hong Kong stocks soar as epidemic prevention is relaxed, more areas still strictly prevent and control the epidemic

On Tuesday, the Central News Agency reported that a hot post on the Internet claimed that the CCP official held an expert group meeting on Monday (31 October 2022) to discuss plans for comprehensive and conditional liberalization of epidemic prevention, and declared the goal of “substantially border liberalization” in March 2023."

Although the authenticity of this post is difficult to verify, mainland and Hong Kong stocks rose sharply on Tuesday (November 1). At the end of the session, the Shanghai Stock Exchange and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange rose 2.62% and 3.24%, respectively, closing at 2,969.2 points, up 75.72 points and 10,734.25 points, up 337.21 points.

However, there are many places in the mainland that have not loosened restrictions. Nationwide, cities in Xinjiang, Tibet, Qinghai, and recently Guangdong, Heilongjiang, Wuhan, etc., have been blocked, and some cities in Xinjiang have been blocked for more than three months.

232 million Chinese under epidemic prevention restrictions

On 27 October 2022, 232 million Chinese were under some form of epidemic prevention restrictions, compared with 225 million a week earlier, according to Japan's Nomura Bank. 31 Chinese cities are affected, and these cities account for 24.5% of GDP.

Local officials are in a dilemma on whether to block or unblock even if the disease is mild

Hu Ping believes that local officials are in a dilemma, that is, they cannot continue to block and control indefinitely but they are very worried that if the relaxation of the block and control leads to an outbreak, their black gauze cap will not be guaranteed, so they will take very strict prevention and control measures. This requires a clearer attitude from the top, that is, it is decided to let go. Even if there are more epidemics, they must still insist on letting go, so that local officials dare to let go.

Zhao Lanjian, a former Chinese media person, told The Epoch Times, "It may be that some areas will be loosened at the moment, but some areas may be tightened again. One of my inside information, because I am in the first red second generation group. They said before. It may open in March next year.”

He said that if companies like Foxconn were forced to withdraw, the impact and loss on the entire Chinese economy would be unpredictable. Therefore, the voices of foreign media may prompt Beijing to change its decision-making, that is, everyone's efforts may lead to changes in the situation in China.

Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration officially announced tonight (3 November 2022) that it will hold an expert meeting on the evaluation of Medigen vaccine protection benefits for domestic Wuhan pneumonia (covid, COVID-19) today, the benefits against moderately severe disease and death, so the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) can be maintained and not cancelled.

The Food and Drug Administration pointed out that the expert meeting reported on the overall protection benefit of MVC COVID-19 vaccine, the analysis report of a domestic medical center database, and the big data of the national vaccination information management system and infectious disease notification system database. Moderate and severe cases and death have protective benefits.

The expert meeting unanimously agreed that Medigen covid vaccines are in line with vaccine protection benefits. Among the 15 experts that attended the meeting, the chairman did not participate in the voting, 14 agreed and 0 disagreed.

In response to the local epidemic prevention needs of covid, the Food and Drug Administration conditionally approved the project manufacturing of Medigen vaccines in accordance with the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law on 30 July 2021. A vaccine protection effectiveness report is submitted within the year.

MVC submitted the vaccine protection benefit report on 27 July 2022. After review by the expert meeting, it was recommended to provide additional information on the protection of the elderly against severe illness and death. The company completed the supplement on 28 October, and the Food and Drug Administration once again held an expert meeting for deliberation.

After analysis, the moderate and severe cases and deaths among Chinese people aged 18 to 64 vaccinated with the vaccine combinations of various brands show that Chinese people who receive MVC COVID-19 vaccine are less likely to receive AZ, BNT, Modena vaccines or other mixed combinations. The protective benefits for preventing moderate and severe disease and death are similar, and compared with those who have not been vaccinated, they have the protection ability to prevent moderate and severe disease and death.

In addition, the same protective benefit results were observed in the elderly population over the age of 65. Based on the empirical data of real-world vaccination results, the Food and Drug Administration stated that it is proved that MVC COVID-19 vaccine has protective benefits.

Huang Meizhen, chief of the drug group of the Food and Drug Administration, said that because the expert meeting unanimously agreed that the covid vaccine of Medigen are effective in protecting moderately severe and fatal diseases, the emergency use authorization should be extended.

From Trump to Biden, the 7 people who have the most influence in the midterm elections

从川普到拜登 中期选举影响比较大的7个人

Next Tuesday's US midterm elections will have a huge impact on President Biden, Democrats and Republicans, who hope to replace Biden in the White House in the 2024 election. The careers of some of the most senior members of Congress will also be challenged.

"The Hill" summarizes the seven people most affected by the mid-term election results, including current President Biden, former President Trump, Florida Governor DeSantis and others.

News (13)

President Biden could face political disaster if Democrats lost

The importance of the midterm results to President Biden cannot be overstated.

In the midterms, if Democrats lose control of the House of Representatives, Biden could struggle for the second two years of his first term, at least on domestic policy. And this outcome is very likely to happen.

He, his administration and his family, especially his son Hunter Biden, will almost certainly face a Republican-led investigation. Whether or not they uncover actual wrongdoing, the investigations could embarrass Biden and spark political disaster.

Next, Biden's political standing will also be affected.

If Democrats lose some seats in the House but can maintain control of the Senate, Biden could seek re-election.

Biden could step down after his first term if Democrats take a heavy hit in the election. Even if Biden chooses to continue to run in this situation, it will be difficult.

News (14)

Former President Trump helps the Republican candidates he endorses to victory

President Trump has been involved in the midterm elections from the start and has gained significant support in the Republican primary. For the most part, his support helped the candidates he endorsed to victory.

Whether his midterm nominee wins next Tuesday's close race will be crucial for Trump as the Republican Party intends to put him in the 2024 presidential election.

Among them, the most closely watched Senate candidates Mehmet Oz of Pennsylvania, Herschel Walker of Georgia and JD Vance of Ohio and Arizona Two candidates -- Governor Kari Lake and Senate Blake Masters.

If most or all of these candidates win, it would be a powerful rebuttal to those who question Trump's limited or waning popularity.

On the other hand, if a candidate backed by Trump loses, it is bound to raise doubts about him, even within the Republican Party.

News (15)

Florida Governor DeSantis wins all the way

DeSantis is considered the only Republican with a shot at beating Trump in the party's 2024 presidential nomination.

DeSantis's supporters argue that he shares many of Trump's right-wing views without the self-defeating and chaos Trump has.

DeSantis has a better chance of winning next Tuesday against his Democratic opponent, former Rep. Charlie Crist (R-Fla.).

In Tuesday's RealClearPolitics average, DeSantis led Crist by 12.3 points.

News (16)

California Governor Gavin Newsom may replace Biden as Presidential candidate in 2024 if he wins

For the governor of California, next Tuesday's election really is not just about his own race. There is no doubt that Newsom will win a second term. Most polls put him ahead of California Republican Sen. Brian Dahle by about 20 points but election results elsewhere have a big impact on his future direction.

Newsom, the most daring Democrat, has pitched himself as a potential replacement for Biden in 2024. He ran a TV ad on the other side of the country bashing DeSantis in Florida, a move that appeared to be largely aimed at fuelling public opinion and media speculation.

Despite his claims that he will not run for president, many Democrats do not believe it, especially with Biden faltering. However, if the Democrats win next Tuesday, Newsom loses his chance.

News (17)

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may retire if Democrats lost

Pelosi has led House Democrats for nearly 20 years but her career could soon be over if the party suffers a major defeat next Tuesday.

Pelosi, a formidable political figure, at 82, may try to keep her leadership and retake the speakership in 2024 or beyond but there are doubts about that.

Many House Democrats are uncomfortable with the leadership of Rep. Steny Hoyer as majority leader and James Clyburn as majority whip. After all, one of the two is 83 years old and the other is 82 years old.

News (18)

Senator Ricks Cotter to be blamed if Republicans lost the Senate

Florida Senator Rick Scott is sometimes considered a potential 2024 presidential candidate.

Scott heads the National Republican Senate Committee, the Senate Republican campaign arm but unfortunately, a proposal he submitted in February was seized by Democrats.

In February, Scott laid out his 11-point plan, and one of the elements of the proposal was that all federal legislation would "lapse" after five years unless reauthorized. The proposal has been criticized.

This rule applies to Social Security and Medicare plans, which are highly relied upon and welcomed by seniors. Democrats, including Biden and former President Barack Obama, have been outspoken on the campaign trail, suggesting the GOP would destroy the programs.

After Scott's plan was announced, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell walked away.

Analysts say Scott's mistakes will be partly to blame if Republicans lose the Senate seat on election night next Tuesday.

News (19)

Rep. Liz Cheney is alienated from Republican Party

Liz Cheney, Trump's most prominent Republican foe on Capitol Hill, has no election cards to play. She lost sharply in the August primary.

Cheney is almost completely alienated from today's Republican Party. In recent weeks, she has even backed some Democratic candidates for re-election to the House of Representatives. To be sure, Cheney will be watching closely the performance of pro-Trump candidates, including former Arizona news anchor Kari Lake.

The GOP will not accept Cheney anytime soon but she would be satisfied if the Republicans lost the election. A reversed result would show again that within the Republican Party, she has failed.

Biden's speech slipped, blamed inflation on "Iraq War" and said his son "died there"
Biden's frequent slip-ups spark concerns

拜登演讲现口误 将通胀归咎“伊拉克战争” 称其子“死在那里”

拜登频频口误引发担忧

US President Joe Biden falsely said in a speech on Tuesday (1 November) that his son died while serving in Iraq. He also initially blamed the "Iraq War" for the current global inflation, a mistake he later corrected.

"Inflation is a worldwide problem right now, because of the Iraq war and the pressure on oil," Biden said of inflation, health care and social security at an event in Hallandale Beach, Florida, on the 1st. their impact, and what Russia is doing."

"I mean... the war in Ukraine," he corrected himself, saying that because of his late son, Beau Biden, he put the war in Iraq -- more than 10 years old -- on the line before the end - conflated with Russia's ongoing war of invading Ukraine.

"I'm thinking of Iraq because my son died there," Biden said. He then jumped to another topic, arguing that the U.S. has "the lowest inflation rate of almost any major country."

Beau Biden, a two-term Delaware Attorney General and a distinguished military veteran; was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2013 and passed away on 30 May 2015, at the age of 46 years old. He served a year in Iraq from 2008 to 2009, including seven months of deployment in theaters.

This is not the first time Biden has claimed Beau has "lost his life in Iraq." He made a similar statement earlier this month in Colorado, where he designated the Camp Hale military base as a national monument.

"I speak as the father of someone who received the Bronze Star, the Conspicuous Service Medal, and died in Iraq," Biden said on 12 October.

In a 2019 speech, Biden said he believed toxins found in the smoke from burning waste at U.S. military facilities in Iraq may have contributed to Beau's death, although he "could not prove it yet." "He came back with stage IV glioblastoma. He lived 18 months and knew he was going to die," he said at the time.

Biden has recently come under fire from critics on social media for some bizarre slips in his recent speeches.

Last week, he claimed at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania that there are "54 states" in the United States, when in fact there are only 50. Describing how Democrats have worked to improve health care by defending the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Biden proudly told the crowd that Democrats campaigned in "54 states" to prevent the removal of federal regulations.

Videos showing the 79-year-old president making verbal or other missteps have become commonplace since Biden took office, raising concerns about his age and cognitive abilities. In another recent speech, he called the wrong Rep. Jackie Walorski, who died in a car accident a few weeks ago.

With regard to running for re-election in 2024, Biden recently agreed with questions about his age as "entirely reasonable." He noted, however, that he is "in good health" and that "everything is still functioning well physically, as well as mentally".

Biden, already the oldest president of the United States, will turn 80 in a few weeks. If he wins re-election in 2024, he will be 86 at the end of his second term.

Return to the planned economy? The CCP orders the pilot construction of canteens in cities across the country

Editor : Zheng Gusheng / https://www.ntdtv.com/gb/2022/11/02/a103565700.html Image : In the second half of 2022, many places in China began to publicize the "opening of state-run canteens". (Screenshot of web video)

重返计划经济? 中共下令全国城市试点建食堂

After the CCP launched a major reconstruction of rural supply and marketing cooperatives, it ordered cities to pilot the construction of "self-sufficient" communities, including the establishment of government-run canteens. Analysts pointed out that these are all signs of returning to the "planned economy", and hard times are coming again.

According to CCP official media reports, on 31 October 2022 the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the CCP and the Ministry of Civil Affairs jointly issued the "Notice on Carrying out the Pilot Work of Complete Community Construction", requiring each city (district) to select 3 to 5 communities to carry out a two-year "complete community construction pilot project".

The "Notice" stated that pilot communities should plan to build community comprehensive service facilities, kindergartens, nurseries, elderly service stations, and community health service stations.

In addition, the pilot community also needs to adapt to the daily needs of residents, with canteens, convenience stores, vegetable stores, mail and express delivery service facilities, barber shops, laundry shops, pharmacies, maintenance points, housekeeping service outlets and other commercial service facilities.

As early as around July 2022, state-owned cafeterias similar to cafeterias appeared in residential communities in Hunan, Hubei, Shandong and Yunnan. These canteens are usually run by catering groups funded by local street offices or officially approved, and the prices are slightly lower than restaurants. Some places have begun to publicize the "opening of state-run canteens" and claim that the establishment of canteens is "to provide convenience for the elderly."

Image : Screenshot of web video.

Canteens and supply and marketing cooperatives are the products of the CCP's "planned economy" era and have specific political meanings. After the large-scale expansion of the supply and marketing cooperative, the authorities ordered the reconstruction of the canteen, which immediately aroused public attention.

A video (link) shared by netizens spliced together the opening of the community canteen and the reconstruction of the supply and marketing cooperative, mocking the CCP's return to the "planned economy".

Hunan current affairs commentator Li Ang told Radio Free Asia that these community cafeterias are replicas of the cafeterias in the "planned economy" era, except for the abundance of food, there is not much difference. He said that in the past, when the CCP confronted the West, it used "socialist self-sufficiency" and "planned economy".

Current affairs commentator Ma Ju believes that no one in the new Standing Committee of the CCP understands the economy, and the report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China emphasized the "spirit of struggle".

He said that the CCP's large-scale establishment of canteens is to control the people, to reduce opposition in society by monopolizing food, materials and various means of production, and at the same time to strengthen the idea of "the CCP is feeding us". Its purpose is to implement a state of emergency anytime, anywhere.

Under the CCP's extreme epidemic prevention policy, in mainland China, it is impossible to do anything without a health code. Beijing's control over health codes is particularly severe. In order to return to Beijing, a large number of business travelers who have been popped up by the health code must stay in an area without covi-positive cases for 7 days before returning to Beijing, thus giving birth to the so-called "code-raising" industry.

On 31 October 2022, a list of the national "Code-raising" index was circulated on Weibo, and Zhengding County, Hebei was awarded the best "code-raising" city. The news was swiped online but it was quickly deleted.

The netizens who released the news said that Zhengding County was rated as the best city for raising codes for the following reasons: it is close to the imperial capital, and you can enter Beijing immediately after the pop-up window is lifted; the prices are cheap, and hotels and restaurants are within the affordable range; there are rich tourism resources and temples. The garden can be seen everywhere, with a rich history and splendid humanities. You can take this opportunity to investigate in depth…

However, careful netizens found that the current high-risk area of Shijiazhuang City is close to Zhengding County. Therefore, it is speculated that the index list is just a joke made by netizens but it quickly became popular on the Internet. Later, it was blocked by mainland Internet platforms, causing a sensational effect.

Netizens ridiculed: "Too absurd! Wouldn't this give birth to new industries and increase employment rates? It is suggested that the former major tourism provinces should be transformed into yards."

In the 2018 U.S. House of Representatives elections and the 2020 presidential elections, women's votes played an invaluable influence. This year's midterm elections are coming, how will they affect the final election results?

Atkins, Georgia voter: "I need to take a moment now, maybe two days of hesitation, and eventually I will come back because that (voting) is my responsibility as an American and as a mother."

Key state Georgia voter Beth Atkins is a health care worker and mother of two teenage daughters whose primary concern is health care.

Georgia Voter Atkins: "I want all patients to get what they need and what they want, and patients should know their options."

Statistics from THE CENTER FOR AMERICAN WOMEN AND POLITICS found that women voted more than men in every presidential and midterm election since 1984.

Leslie Valentine, a Georgia Voter Veteran, founded a mental health foundation, and one of her concerns is mental health.

Georgia Voter Veteran Valentin: "I want to know who will be elected. I should support veterans, support their mental health, and care about the mental health of teenagers, because too many children are mentally injured during the epidemic."

Valentine, who has voted early, has her take: Mothers also encourage their children to learn about voting rights.

Valentine: "I told her, this is very important, first of all we are going to vote and use this right to vote. Why? A lot of people in the past gave their lives for the right to vote."

The latest polls show that voters are most concerned about the economy and inflation, which may help the Republican election.
