Lufthansa confirmed that one of its Airbus A380 aircraft carrying 351 passengers prematurely touched down on runway 26L at Munich Airport on Monday evening of 17 August 2026. The impact occurred just before the runway threshold, damaging runway lights and several tires.

The Lufthansa A380 (registration number D-AIML) was operating flight LH-459 from San Francisco to Munich.

Lufthansa stated that the aircraft taxied to its terminal parking position after landing, and passengers disembarked normally with no injuries reported.

The German Federal Bureau of Investigation (BFU) has launched an investigation, and Lufthansa has stated it will fully cooperate.

Just two days prior to this incident, a Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner also encountered acceleration difficulties during takeoff on the same runway at Munich Airport, failing to take off until it was 120 metres beyond the runway edge, narrowly avoiding a major accident.

The two incidents occurred close together, drawing attention, but there is currently no evidence to suggest a connection between them.
