The US State Department said Sherman spoke with
Daw Zin Mar Aung, who has been appointed acting foreign minister in the shadow
National Unity Government (NUG) for Myanmar, also known as Burma. Zin Mar Aung
is an elected MP of the National League for Democracy (NLD) and a former
political prisoner.
“They discussed ongoing efforts to return Burma
to a path to democracy, including continued US support for the pro-democracy
movement,” State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement, according
to Reuters.
The NUG is composed of members of the elected
(NLD) government (now ousted) and other activists and ethnic leaders. It was
founded in April, three months after the coup.
Myanmar now faces a humanitarian crisis and
third wave of deadly novel coronavirus infections and the economy has collapsed.
The State Department also said in its press
release, “In addition, they discussed efforts to combat rising COVID-19
infections in Burma and to provide critical humanitarian assistance to the
people of Burma.”
The US has imposed sanctions on the military
and some of its business interests.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken
met virtually with counterparts from ASEAN and called on them to take joint
action to urge the military to end its violence, the State Department said.
Blinken welcomed the bloc’s appointment of
Brunei’s second minister for foreign affairs, Erywan Yusof, as special envoy to
Myanmar.
The secretary of state urged ASEAN foreign
ministers to push for Myanmar to “release all those unjustly detained, and
restore Burma’s path to democracy,” the earlier statement said.

Myanmar’s ambassador to the United Nations, U Kyaw Moe Tun, says that the U.S. authorities have stepped up his security after he received a threat.
Since the coup in February, U Kyaw Moe Tun has represented Myanmar’s National Unity Government (NUG) formed by lawmakers from the ousted government and ethnic minority representatives.
The military regime tried to replace him but he remains the official envoy because the United Nations is yet to acknowledge the junta.
U Kyaw Moe Tun has ignored the military’s claims that he no longer represents Myanmar in New York.
Myanmar’s junta-controlled television announced in February that U Kyaw Moe Tun had been fired for betraying the country after he urged countries to use “any means necessary” to reverse the military takeover.
“Reportedly there is some threat. The police are working on it. Necessary security has been provided by the police,” U Kyaw Moe Tun, who lives in New York, told Reuters.
He was made aware of the threat on Tuesday. No details were available.
A State Department spokesperson said, “We do not discuss details of our protective operations.”
A significant number of expats from Myanmar live in New York. There were unconfirmed reports of a city resident from Myanmar being approached by the regime.
“The police and the security authorities in New York are working on it,” the ambassador added.

Why protecting U Kyaw Moe Tun is extremely very important
U Kyaw Moe Tun appears to be the Burmese that must be protected from danger. He is symbolically protecting the Burmese back home from the illegally-elected Junta government. The United Nations continuous rejection of the Myanmar Junta through the presence of U Kyaw Moe Tun will foster the prevalence of democracy in Myanmar.
If the Junta's appointed envoy for the UN were recognised by the UN, democracy will be hit hard.
The Irrawaddy reports that the National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma, which was formed in exile across the Thai border in December 1990, suffered from disappearances and murders.
Two of its ministers, U Win Ko and U Hla Pe, disappeared separately in 1992 and were found murdered the next year.
U Hla Pe was murdered in Bangkok. U Win Ko’s body was found in a hotel room in southern China. No one claimed responsibility for the deaths.
Myanmar has been in turmoil since the February coup, with the regime killing more than 900 people, according to human rights groups.
Therefore, U Kyaw Moe Tun, the beacon of hope, peace and continuous democracy for Myanmar, must be protected. He is the EVIP after Aung San Suu Kyi.

The U.S. welcomes more undergraduate students from ASEAN member countries
New York Post reporter Steve Nelson said, “In a follow up to the
report on Governor Cuomo’s sexual harassment, a lot of men in politics have
been accused of sexual harassment, President Biden was accused by female Secret
Service agents of skinny dipping in front of them, offending them, according to
another Washington Post reporter Ronald Kessler who is an author as well. His
former Senate aide Tara Reade accused him of sexual assault. The Washington
Post and The New York Times published multiple accounts of women who objected
to the way President Biden touched them. Should there be an independent
investigation of allegations into the president as there was into Governor
Cuomo?”
That is a fair question since Americans never got the answer they
needed back in 2020 when these allegations first surfaced.
So, Psaki answered these questions as best as she could but her reply is not a thorough answer, ““Well, first I would say the president has been clear and outspoken about the importance of women being respected and having their voices heard and being allowed to tell their stories and people treating them with respect. That has long been his policy continues to be his policy. That was heavily litigated during the campaign. I understand you’re eager to come back to it. But I don’t have anything further other than to repeat that he has called for the governor to resign.”
Nelson asked further, “Heavily
litigated during the campaign”? Really? Is that your answer, Jen?”
According to Tara Reade, there was no such litigation.
In a tweet by Tara Reade, the former Biden aide, she revealed some truth, calling out Psaki’s straight-up LIE about what happened during the campaign.
Reade asked Psaki, “Did I miss the investigation and litigation? I sure did not miss the smears and attacks on my character during Joe Biden’s campaign as I came forward. Was it safe to come forward? I think not.”
So, which is it, Jen? Was it actually litigated? Or was it simply given a quick glance and then swept under the rug?
America deserves to know the truth—both about why she is lying
and whether Biden was “elected” with a cloud of sexual assault hanging over his
quickly-emptying head.
This is the Deep State at its finest, protecting its own rather
than allowing truth and justice to prevail.
Let’s put all the cards on the table. Trump has been
investigated multiple times. Maybe it is time for Sleepy Joe to get the same treatment.
As Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Law and order exist for the
purpose of establishing justice and when they fail in this purpose they become
the dangerously structured dams that block the flow of social progress.”

New York restaurants taken aback by requirement of vaccine passport

Just as New York City restaurateurs thought they would perhaps see their way out of crushing COVID-19 restrictions and back to “normalcy,” the city’s government dealt out another blow: Restaurants will now have to check customers for proof of vaccination, or themselves face fines.
In response, restaurant owners seem to have flocked to one of two positions. Some support the rule as long as it prevents more lockdowns while others reject it as an unreasonable imposition on their already vulnerable operations.
Restaurants have been among the hardest hit by the lockdown imposed in response to the CCP virus pandemic, which causes COVID-19. New York City boasted a flourishing restaurant scene in 2019, with more than 23,000 establishments and more than 300,000 employed, according to a state comptroller report (pdf).
The lockdowns slashed employment by about two-thirds in the sector in April 2020. It has been gradually recovering since, in major part depending on federal relief funding and solidarity of their landlords.
December 2020 sales were 50 to 100 percent lower than the year before for most restaurants and bars, according to a survey by the NYC Hospitality Alliance, an industry group. For two in five, sales were 90 to 100 percent lower.
If the government stopped supports such as rent subsidies and the eviction ban, nearly half said they would go out of business. Only 15 percent said they would not. The rest are not sure.
The vaccine requirement, announced by Mayor Bill de Blasio on August 3, would apply to both staff and customers at restaurants, bars, gymnasiums, and entertainment venues. It may be expanded to other establishments too, a New York City Department of Health official told The Epoch Times.
Businesses will have to ask customers for their vaccination card issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or vaccination confirmation on the city or state phone app. The rule goes into effect on August 16 and enforcement through inspections will start on September 13.
More than a third of New Yorkers have not received even the first of the two doses of the vaccine, which was developed in 2020 in record speed and rolled out through an emergency authorization before the completion of clinical trials.
It is still not clear how the NYC requirement will work in practice, Head of the Alliance, Andrew Rigie, told The Epoch Times, "The city announced the policy and over the coming weeks is going to develop the guidelines, so many questions still need to be answered,” he said via email. “We will work to inform the guidelines to make them as clear and fair to restaurants as possible.”
He said that bar and restaurant owners are “very split on the issue”, based on conversations the Alliance has had with some of them, "Some support it, others oppose it. All seem to agree we can’t go to harsher restrictions and shutdowns again.”
For Karla Martinez, Manager of Chirp restaurant in Manhattan’s Garment District, the rule announcement is “confusing". She said, “The Mayor saying one thing, the Governor saying another thing, the CDC saying yet another thing.”
Some people are already irked when asked to put on a mask.
Karla suggested that asking for a vaccination card will only exacerbate the situation. She said, “They’re going to get angry.” She was not even sure how to enforce the rule, noting that she doesn’t have the budget to have a person stand by the door checking people’s vaccination papers.
The Peruvian restaurant has been around for three years, barely surviving the lockdowns and still hanging on by a thread.
Karla said, “It’s still rough. Everyday it’s very uncertain for us. We don’t know if tomorrow we’re going to be able to open the doors.”
She was hoping the rule will not cost her customers. She added, “But at this point, we don’t know anything”.
Mostafa Zouini, Manager of nearby Cafe Aroma, indicated he will comply with the rule but acknowledged it will make some customers unhappy. He said, “It’s like going back to square one”.
He recalled the backlash he received when the city told establishments to have customers put down their email addresses for contact tracing and even have their temperature checked before getting served. He said, “They used to get mad and leave”.
Down the street, the manager at Pomodoro Italian eatery opposed the new rule.
Only identifying himself by his last name, Liu said, “It’s stupid, because it’s not our job to police people.” He said he supports everybody getting vaccinated, but he is not in favour of turning away customers based on that.
Liu said, “Whether you’re not vaccinated or you’re vaccinated, you’re still my customer.”
He expects businesses will ignore the rule rather than lose customers over it.
Liu said, “People are not going to follow”. He suggested it is the New York city government’s fault that so many people are not getting vaccinated.
A lack of incentives is not the core issue holding people back, he said. The problem is that “there’s no outreach.” The government should just focus on educating people, in his view.
Liu said, “Instead, they’re forcing these ridiculous laws on us.”

White House Official: Foreign visitors to the U.S. may be required to show COVID-19 vaccination proof
Reporter : Jack Philipps, The Epoch Times PREMIUM
The White House confirmed on 5 August 2021 that it is considering requiring foreign visitors to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination as a condition for international travel.
Jeff Zients, the White House COVID-19 response coordinator, told reporters on Thursday that several federal agencies are examining the possibility of issuing such a mandate.
Zients said at the White House COVID-19 briefing, “We will be ready when it is the right time to consider reopening.” He appeared to confirm anonymously sourced reports that administration officials will have to present proof they are vaccinated against the disease.
There is still no timetable on when the United States will resume international travel to certain countries as a number of federal officials have cited concerns about the Delta variant.
In early 2020, the United States imposed its first restrictions on travel from the People's Republic of China, where SARS-CoV-2 originated, before imposing travel restrictions on other countries.
Canada recently announced it would allow “non-essential” travel from the U.S. if travelers can provide proof of vaccination. The U.S., however, did not reciprocate Canada’s policy and has kept its border with its northern neighbor closed due to the pandemic.
In contrast, along the U.S.–Mexico border, which is still seeing record numbers of illegal immigrants crossing, proof of COVID-19 vaccination is not required before aliens are released into the United States. Reports last month said that during the final week of July, about 7,000 people who crossed illegally were released in McAllen, Texas.
Reports citing anonymous sources also said the Biden-Harris administration is creating a plan to provide vaccines to illegal immigration.
It was not immediately clear whether a plan would require visitors arriving from Mexico and Canada to be vaccinated before crossing land borders.
Starting late July 2021, a number of large corporations including Google, Facebook, Tyson Foods, and many others started mandating that their employees get vaccinated by a certain date or potentially face termination. The federal government will soon require employees to get vaccinated or wear a mask and practise safe distancing.
This week, New York City became the first to announce a policy implementing a COVID-19 vaccine pass that requires customers to show proof of vaccination before they enter restaurants, gymnasiums and theatres. The Los Angeles City Council is working on passing a similar mandate.
Vaccine passports and similar systems have been criticized by civil liberties groups, conservatives and even some Democrats as creating a segregated society of vaccinated and unvaccinated people.
During a news conference earlier this week, Zients announced that it is “time to impose some requirements on COVID-19 vaccines.”
President Joe Biden called on states and local governments to use funding they have received, including from the American Rescue Plan, "to give $100 to anyone who gets fully vaccinated. If financial incentives like these help us get more shots in arms, we should use them.”
However, Biden went a step further, saying that mandates must be imposed.
Zients proclaimed, "But in addition to incentives, it’s time to impose some requirements based on the realities of different risks unvaccinated individuals pose versus those who have been vaccinated.”

On
Election Night 2020, it appeared that President Trump was on his way to a
second term. He won Florida, Texas, and Ohio by comfortable margins, and he was
leading in Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania.
Americans went to bed with a big Trump lead, only to wake up the next morning
to see Trump losing ground in all those states, including Arizona and Nevada.
How could this happen?
Well, that is what the Arizona State Senate is trying to figure out, and they have commissioned an audit of election results in the Grand Canyon State to get to the bottom of it. However, they are not getting cooperation from Maricopa County, the largest county in the state, and the county most in question.
It appeared that Trump would win the state but inexplicably, Fox
News called the state for Joe Biden early on election night.
Now, just when the investigation was about to take off, Maricopa
County officials have stopped complying.
CBS News reported, “The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors and
Dominion Voting Systems refused Monday to provide additional material requested
in subpoenas from Republicans in the Arizona Senate.”
Arizona Senate President Karen Fann and Republican Senator
Warren Petersen issued the subpoenas on
July 26, seeking materials to help private contractors finish a controversial audit of
Maricopa County’s November election ballots.
The subpoena demanded that Maricopa County and Dominion provide
routers that were used in the elections, security information for accessing
tabulating machines, network data logs, mail-ballot envelopes, certain voter
registration records and any records related to alleged data breaches around
the time of the election.”
Arizona
is not the only state where questions of voter fraud abound. The media still
claims there is “no evidence” of fraud to be found anywhere.
It might be that the election contained no massive voter fraud
but to claim there is “no evidence” is simply not true.
Many of us would like a thorough investigation to investigate
the fraud claims. That is not too much to ask for.
In
Georgia, suitcases full of ballots were hidden under a table at a vote counting
centre and were taken out from hiding by centre officials only after most of
the other vote-counters were told to go home.
In Pennsylvania, a truck trailer full of over 100,000 ballots
was stolen.
A trailer full of ballots was stolen two weeks before the
election!
Once again, the U.S. Democrats argued there was no evidence of stolen ballots.
PJ Media reported “a truck driver testified that he had driven thousands
of ballots from Bethpage, N.Y., to Lancaster, Pa., two weeks before Election
Day. Phill Kline, a former attorney general of Kansas and director of The
Amistad Project of the Thomas More Society, said The Amistad Project has
corroborated the truck driver’s story.”
The truck driver, Phil Kline, then went onto say, “I then drove
to Lancaster, unhooked my trailer in its normal place, and then drove my truck
to where I always park it,” he recalled. “The next day, it just got weirder. As
I arrived at Lancaster… my trailer was gone, not there anymore.”
In Michigan, a witness who was a contractor working with
Dominion voting software testified to the Michigan legislature that she
witnessed the same ballots being counted as many as 10 times at a vote counting
location in downtown Detroit.
The contractor, Melissa Carone, was working the polling site at
the now infamous TCF Center in downtown Detroit.
Just the News reported, Carone testified that on Election Day,
the vote tabulating machines would jam up to three times an hour. She explained that when the
machines would jam, election officials were supposed to reset the count on the
machines to ensure that no ballots were scanned more than once.
Instead of discarding, they were just rescanning, rescanning, rescanning.
Counting ballots “nine to 10 times” Carone said there were more than 20
tabulating machines at her ballot counting centre.
The ballots were meant to be counted in batches of 50 though.
Carone noted that she observed the tabulation count climb well into the
hundreds multiple times throughout the day.
The above is one of several first-hand accounts of issues with
the Dominion Voting Systems across the country. This is far from an isolated
occurrence.
A forensic test of Dominion voting machines in a small county in
Northern Michigan was conducted, and the results confirm what Sydney Powell and
other Trump lawyers have been saying since December 2020: Dominion voting
machines were programmed to commit voter fraud.
The forensic test was conducted on voting machines in Antrim County, Michigan. On election night, the country reported final results that had Biden winning the county—and anyone that knows anything about that area of North West Michigan knows that was very unlikely. It is Trump country through and through.
However, on 5 November 2020, 6,000 votes were reversed and put
in Biden’s column, giving Biden Maricopa County.
We may never get to the bottom of what happened during the 2020 U.S.
Election.

Florida Governor DeSantis fires back at Biden: Do your job
Reporter : Eric Mack, Newsmax
"Why don't you do your job?" DeSantis told reporters on Wednesday, saving his heated remarks for the very end of an 18-plus-minute news conference. "Why don't you get this border secure?
"And until you do that, I don't want to hear a blip about COVID from you."
DeSantis' remarks came after Biden lashed out at Republican governors in the two largest red states for their COVID-19 response amid the rise of the delta variant, saying DeSantis and Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott have demonstrated "bad health policy."
"We need leadership from everyone, and if some governors aren't willing to do the right thing to beat this pandemic, then they should allow businesses and universities who want to do the right thing to be able to do it," Biden told White House reporters Tuesday.
"I say to these governors, please help. If you aren’t going to help, at least get out of the way of people who are trying to do the right thing. Use your power to save lives."
DeSantis, in his remarks, declared that he'll keep standing in the way of Biden and his "lockdown policies," calling Florida a "free state."
"We can either have a free society, or we can have a biomedical security state," DeSantis said. "I can tell you, Florida, we're a free state.
"People are going to be free to choose to make their own decisions about themselves, about their families, about their kids education, and about putting food on the table."
With Biden taking some criticism for his pandemic and border policies, DeSantis vowed to stand in the way of lockdowns whose value is far from universally accepted.
"Joe Biden suggests that if you don't do lockdown policies, then you should 'get out of the way,' but let me tell you this: If you're coming after the rights of parents in Florida, I'm standing in your way," DeSantis said. "I'm not going to let you get away with it.
"If you're trying to deny kids a proper in-person education, I'm going to stand in your way, and I'm going to stand up for the kids in Florida. If you're trying to restrict people, impose mandates, if you're trying to ruin their jobs and their livelihoods and their small business, if you are trying to lock people down, I am standing in your way,
"And I'm standing for the people of Florida."

Surgeon General: American kids less than 12 years old likely to get Pfizer covid virus vaccine in upcoming school year
Reporter : Isabel Van Brugen, The Epoch Times PREMIUM

U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy has said he believes it’s likely that a COVID-19 vaccine for children under 12 will be given emergency use authorization during the next school year.
Murthy made the remarks during an appearance on the “Skimm This” podcast.
“What are the odds that a vaccine for kids under 12 will be approved during the next school year?” Murthy was asked as part of the podcast’s “lightning round.”
“I think the odds are high,” Murthy responded.
COVID-19 vaccines currently are not available for children under the age of 12 in the United States. However, Pfizer said in a statement in June that it was beginning to test its mRNA vaccine in a larger group of children under the age of 12 after selecting a lower dose of the shot in an earlier stage of the trial.
A Pfizer spokesperson said at the time that the company expects data from 5-to-11-year-olds in September and would likely ask regulators for emergency use authorization later that month. Data for children 2 to 5 years old could arrive soon after that, the spokesperson said.
The company also said it’s testing a dose on children in the 6-month to 2-year-old age group and expects to have that data sometime in October or November.
Its vaccine has been authorized for use in children as young as 12 in Europe and Canada. They receive the same dose as adults: 30 micrograms.
This comes as scientists in the United States and elsewhere are studying the possibility of a link between heart inflammation and mRNA vaccines, particularly among males aged 12 to 24 years. Both Pfizer and Moderna’s vaccines are mRNA vaccines.
The safety committee of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) last month concluded that heart inflammation “can occur in very rare cases” and recommended “listing myocarditis and pericarditis as new side effects in the product information for these vaccines, together with a warning to raise awareness among healthcare professionals and people taking these vaccines.”
Meanwhile, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on July 30 published a study that found that nearly 400 children between the ages of 12 and 17, most of them boys, were diagnosed with heart inflammation after receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. Heart inflammation wasn’t identified as an adverse reaction during the safety trials for the vaccine.
The CDC’s advisory committee has maintained that the risks of high inflammation do not outweigh the benefits of the vaccine and continues to recommend it to children aged 12 and older.
Some scientific experts have questioned, however, whether COVID-19 vaccines are appropriate to give to certain groups of people.
The inventor of mRNA vaccine technology, Dr. Robert Malone, has said that the risk-benefit ratio of the vaccine for children doesn’t “look so good.”
“Typically, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices [ACIP] of the CDC would be evaluating risk-benefit ratio for a new vaccine in a vigorous way, using quality-adjust life years,” Malone told The Epoch Times’ “American Thought Leaders” program.
“And then the ACIP would come out with a recommendation saying this vaccine is good to be used in the elderly. It’s pretty compelling in this case with these vaccines that even though there are adverse events, their risk of COVID death or significant disease is pretty high. So that’s an easy one to say yes to.
“Adolescents, in contrast, have a very, very low probability of disease or death from COVID. … That calculation doesn’t come out looking so good.”
Malone urged people to take the time to do their research before making a decision.
“It’s up to you. It’s your body. It’s your choice. I strongly suggest that you take the time to get informed, do the best you can, and then make the decision that you think is right for you,” Malone said.
Representatives for Pfizer did not immediately respond to a request for comment by The Epoch Times.

Biden admin sues Texas for blocking transportation of "illegal immigrants"
Reporter : Grace Saldana, FreedomWire
Nothing says “illegal immigrants first” like the Biden Administration’s determination to transport undocumented immigrants across the United States, regardless of identity or health status.
The Biden Administration sued Texas on Friday to block Texas
Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive order that essentially banned the transportation
of illegal immigrants because of the risk that they could be spreading COVID-19
throughout the state.
“The order is both dangerous and unlawful,” Attorney General
Merrick Garland wrote in a letter warning Abbott, according to the Associated
Press.
Garland added that the state of Texas has “no authority to
interfere” with the federal government’s handling of illegal immigrants at the
border.
Abbott’s order stated that “the admittance and movement of
migrants under the Biden administration” has exposed Texan residents heightened
risk of contracting the coronavirus “creating a public health disaster” in
Texas, the New York Post reported.
With the exception of “federal, state, or local law-enforcement”
officials, the governor’s order prohibits nonprofits or other entities from transporting
undocumented migrants. The order directs the Texas Department of Public Safety
(DPS) to stop “any vehicle upon reasonable suspicion” and tell them to
“reroute” back to the point of origin or port of entry.
Vehicles that do not comply could be impounded by Texas DPS.
It is absurd that the Biden Administration will essentially
allow anyone across our southern border, regardless of whether they have the
coronavirus or not, while at the same time considering forcing U.S. citizens to
get the COVID vaccine or else face more lockdowns and restrictions.
Not to mention, the Biden White House is putting Americans at
higher risk of contracting COVID, but also other diseases and illnesses
immigrants might be bringing from their home countries.
American citizens should not be
forced to suffer the consequences of problems created by the Biden
Administration and its progressive “open border” policies.
