Boris Johnson was today (1 March 2022) berated by a tearful Ukrainian journalist over the West's failure to protect them from 'barbaric' Vladimir Putin.
The UK Prime Minister was accused of being "afraid" to defend people as he took a press conference on a visit to Poland.

Journalist: Ukrainian women and children are protecting NATO
Daria Kaleniuk said women and children were "taking the hit" because NATO would not enforce a no-fly zone.
"You are not coming to Kyiv PM… because you are afraid,' she said, adding that NATO wanted to avoid World War III but it had "already started".
Mr Johnson replied that he was doing what he could be 'can't pretend' that the West would step in militarily.
"Unfortunately the implication of that would be that the UK would be engaged in shooting down Russian planes, engaged in direct combat with Russia, that's not something we can do," he said.
The confrontation came after Mr Johnson accused Mr Putin of using "barbaric and indiscriminate tactics" against innocent Ukrainian civilians.
As the invading forces escalated their attacks, he warned that the world was witnessing an "'unfolding disaster".
Mr Johnson said the UK "stands ready" to take refugees in "considerable numbers" - suggesting that could mean more than 200,000.
He also pledged to stay for the long haul, insisting Putin has "fatally underestimated" the resolve of the West and Ukraine's citizens under the leadership of 'inspirational' Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He stressed there is still "more things that we can and will do" on sanctions but Ms Kaleniuk, executive director of the Anti-Corruption Action Centre civil society organization, stood up to lambast the West's response.
Saying she had recently come over the border from Ukraine, she said her family and friends are still there.

Ukrainians are asking for a no-fly zone
"Ukrainian women and Ukrainian children are in deep fear because of bombs and missiles which are going from the sky. Ukrainian people are desperately asking for the rights to protect our sky, we are asking for a no-fly zone.
"What's the alternative for the no-fly zone?
"NATO is not willing to defend because NATO is afraid of World War Three but it's already started and it's Ukrainian children who are there taking the hit.
"You are talking about more sanctions Prime Minister but Roman Abramovich is not sanctioned, he's in London, his children are not in the bombardments, his children are there in London."

Johnson goes to Estonia to push for sanctions on Russia
The premier is now heading on to Estonia as the UK pushes for sanctions to be ratcheted up again.
In his speech, Mr Johnson said it was clear Putin is willing to "bomb tower blocks, to send missiles into tower blocks, to kill children, as we are seeing in increasing numbers".
Mr Johnson is scheduled to visit British troops serving in Estonia, which shares a border with Russia, on his trip on 1 March.
Speaking before his visit to the two Nato members, Mr Johnson said: 'Alongside all our international allies the UK will continue to bring maximum pressure to bear on Putin's regime to ensure he feels the consequences of his actions in Ukraine.
"We speak with one voice when we say, Putin must fail."
In Estonia, Mr Johnson will hold talks with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.
They will jointly visit British troops serving "on the front line of Russian aggression" in Tapa, No 10 said, before meetings with Estonian PM Kaja Kallas and Estonian President Alar Karis to discuss security.

Ukraine: 5,700 Russian troops were killed
Reporter : David Averre, Daily Mail / https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10564099/Ukraine-inflicts-losses-Russia-Kyiv-says-5-700-Putins-invading-troops-killed.html
Ukrainian forces have inflicted heavy losses on advancing Russian forces as bitter fighting in Ukraine enters its sixth day, according to a spokesperson for the nation's general staff.
Ukraine claimed that Russian forces have lost 5,710 personnel in the fighting thus far, along with 29 aircraft, 198 tanks and 846 armoured vehicles which were either destroyed or significantly damaged - though these figures cannot be verified.
Moscow acknowledged for the first time yesterday that its forces had incurred losses amid the invasion but have refused to give concrete figures, stating only that the numbers are far lower than those given by Ukraine.
Ukrainian army units and civilian defence forces have put up fierce resistance and have stalled the Russian onslaught on the ground for now, prompting Putin to launch an indiscriminate bombing campaign of Ukraine's two largest cities Kyiv (also Kiev) and Kharkiv.
The civilian death toll has increased significantly in the past two days since Russia began its bombardment, with Ukrainian authorities reporting 352 civilian deaths since the start of the invasion, including 14 children.

The United Nations has voiced "grave concern" of another Chernobyl disaster after Russian troops started operating close to Ukraine's largest nuclear power station.
Rafael Grossi, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said late on Monday that he was following the events in Ukraine "very closely and with grave concern".
He warned Russian troops it was "extremely important" not to "put at risk in any way" nuclear power plants across Ukraine, after Vladimir Putin's men seized control of Chernobyl nuclear power plant following a "fierce" battle on Thursday.
It has sparked fears of a radiation leak that could cause fallout in Europe, last seen when the reactor exploded in 1986, after officials said the condition of the nuclear storage facilities was "unknown".
Radiation levels at the plant had increased by Friday, according to Ukraine's nuclear agency, though Moscow denied the claim.
Grossi also warned that "an accident involving the nuclear facilities in Ukraine could have severe consequences for public health and the environment."
Grossi also said he had received reports that the soldiers were close to the Zaporizhzhia station in eastern Ukraine.
The six reactors there were safe for the moment and Russian troops had not tried to enter the facility, a statement said.
However, Grossi said he was following developments in Ukraine 'very closely and with grave concern'.
A meeting of the IAEA's governors is scheduled for Wednesday at its Vienna headquarters to discuss the risks that the conflict poses to Ukraine's nuclear facilities.
Ukraine has four nuclear power stations currently in operation providing about half the country's electricity.

President Tsai Ing-wen met with a senior bipartisan delegation designated by President Biden at the Presidential Palace on 2 March 2022. The two sides have in-depth exchanges on important issues such as Taiwan-US relations and international and regional situations.
Tsai Ing-wen said that at a moment when people around the world are concerned about the situation in Ukraine, Biden sent a special mission to Taiwan to demonstrate the rock-solid relationship between Taiwan and the United States, and also to highlight Taiwan's role in regional security. Now the international democratic community must be more united.
She also mentioned that historical experience has taught the world that indifference to aggression is to create more threats for oneself. This is a moment of unity among democracies around the world, and Taiwan cannot be absent.
Tsai Ing-wen said that Russia's aggression against Ukraine last week caused civilian casualties and displacement, and also seriously endangered world peace and order. Through this opportunity, she would like to tell all friends that Taiwan, as a member of the international community, not only severely condemns the aggression, but also participates in the sanctions against Russia.
Taiwan's humanitarian aid to Ukraine was also launched on 28 February 2022. Tsai Ing-wen said that all Taiwan has done is to firmly express that Taiwan stands with Ukraine and freedom and democracy. As long as it contributes to the peace and security of the international community and regional stability, Taiwan will fulfill its international responsibilities and is willing to cooperate with all the people of all other nations together.
Tsai Ing-wen said that historical experience has taught the world that indifference to aggression is to create more threats for oneself. This is a moment of unity among democracies around the world, and Taiwan cannot be absent.
In particular, the Ukrainian people's belief in defending freedom and democracy, and their determination to stand up to protect their own country, empathize with the Taiwanese people who are on the front lines of democracy.
Tsai Ing-wen emphasized that CCP China's threat to the military region in the Taiwan Strait continues to rise, suppressing international space or operating false and false information through cognitive warfare to divide Taiwan's interior and erode democracy. These actions have not stopped for a day but the people of Taiwan have not given up their persistence.
On the Republic of China, Taiwan has invested more efforts to protect the country, including developing its own national defense, strengthening asymmetric warfare, and consolidating national defense, preventing cognitive warfare differentiation, and making Taiwan a more resilient island of democracy.
Tsai Ing-wen said that Taiwan wants to tell the world that the Republic of China (Taiwan's official name) will protect its democratic and free way of life and has a firm determination to defend itself.
Regional stability and security have never been a single-country issue. The Ukraine crisis has taught Taiwanese that cooperation among democracies is crucial.
Tsai Ing-wen said that in the face of regional security threats in the Taiwan Strait, she looks forward to working closely with the United States and other parties in the region to jointly suppress various types of unilateral actions that may impact security in order to maintain regional peace and stability.
Tsai Ing-wen said that she would like to thank the Biden administration for their practical actions, in accordance with the "Taiwan Relations Act" and six guarantees, to fulfill its security commitments to Taiwan and to assist Taiwan's ability to defend itself.
In addition, Biden took office to approve two arms sales cases, and their presence on 2 March is the most obvious example.
Tsai Ing-wen said that last month, the Biden administration announced the latest Indo-Pacific strategy and pointed out that Taiwan is an important partner in the Indo-Pacific region.
Taiwan, which stands on the front line of democracy, is not only an important partner, but also the most trustworthy partner. Taiwan, which has more international support and participation, will be more resilient and contribute more to world freedom and democracy.
Tsai Ing-wen expressed that she expects the Taiwan-US partnership to become closer and make more contributions to the peace, stability, prosperity and development of the Indo-Pacific region and the world together.

The Russia-Ukraine war caused many casualties, and many countries in the world expressed solidarity with Ukraine. In this regard, Taiwan is not absent.
The Executive Yuan coordinated the efforts of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Customs Administration of the Ministry of Finance. About 27 tons of medical supplies, including medicines and medical equipment, were donated to Ukraine by China Airlines at 11.50 pm on 28 February from Taoyuan to Frankfurt and then transferred to Ukraine through appropriate channels.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on 1 March that as a member of the international social democratic camp, it is willing to play the spirit of "Taiwan Can Help", provide needed medical supplies based on humanitarianism, and support Ukraine.
Foreign Minister Wu Zhaoxie also tweeted, "When mainland China and Russia form an 'unlimited alliance', Taiwan joins liberal democracies against the expansion of authoritarianism. I am confident: Democracy will win!"
After the post was exposed, many people rushed to cheer for Ukraine, "Come on Ukraine", "I hope the government can set up a special donation account to donate money to Ukraine in the name of Taiwan to help them rebuild after the war!", "I hope the people are safe and get out of danger as soon as possible", "Full support for Taiwan" The good medical care! The cycle of good will never stop", "I am proud to be in Taiwan", "As a member of the global village and a partner of the Freedom and Democracy Front, Taiwan will not be absent in international affairs."
Image : Netizens believe that there will be a misunderstanding in China Airlines' delivery. (Photo / Retrieved from the official Facebook of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
Two days later, the president confirmed it but many people questioned that China Airlines' English "China Airlines" would be misunderstood by the outside world, "Why not use EVA Air to deliver the medical supplies to Ukraine?" Does EVA Air deliver?", "Don't use China Airlines' planes for better loading", "Can you help other countries by using planes without the word CHINA in the future? Otherwise, foreigners will think that China is helping them, and it will be a great loss to Taiwan", "I really don't recommend China Airlines. One more China... Many foreigners who are unfamiliar with the geographical and historical situation will misunderstand it."

A video has shown people's desperate bid to flee Kyiv overnight on Tuesday as explosions struck residential areas and as many as 15,000 troops - an entire Russian army division - bore down on Ukraine's capital.
Footage from Kyiv station showed hundreds of civilians, some with young children, trying to cram onto an already packed train amid fears that the city could soon be turned into a war zone.
Air strikes rocked residential suburbs of the capital on Tuesday night as a 40-mile long convoy of Russian military vehicles inched closer, with fears that President Vladimir Putin's troops will soon lay siege to the city.
Another convoy was reported to be moving towards Kiev from the south-east, with plans to encircle it.

Explosions around Kyiv's TV tower mimic Hitler's campaign
On Tuesday afternoon, outrage followed an eruption of explosions around the capital's 1,300ft TV tower, built by a ravine where as many as 150,000 people were killed by the Nazis - including 34,000 Jews in two horrific days in 1941 - during Adolf Hitler's campaign against the Soviet Union.
Five people, reportedly a single family walking together, were burned alive in the blasts.
After the attack, Volodymyr Zelenskyy tweeted, "To the world: what is the point of saying "never again" for 80 years, if the world stays silent when a bomb drops on the same site of Babyn Yar? At least 5 killed. History repeating…"
Russia also shelled the country's second-largest city Kharkiv, killing at least 11 people and wounding dozens of others, Ukrainian officials said. Kharkiv's central square was hit with what was believed to be a missile, leaving the massive area piled high with debris.

Death toll in Ukraine remains unclear
Hospitals raced to treat victims of the bombardment even as mothers and children sheltered in their basements. While the fighting in Ukraine raged, the death toll remained unclear. "According to preliminary data, dozens of Kharkiv residents, including children, died from these airstrikes," the ministry said on its Facebook page.
At the border, anguished families said goodbye as women and children fled while many men returned to fight. More than 675,000 people have escaped to neighbouring countries since the Russian invasion began - a number that will only grow, according to the UN refugee agency.
A UN agency also said at least 136 civilians have been killed in the war so far, including 13 children, and 400 have been injured. 'The real toll is likely to be much higher,' Liz Throssell, a spokesperson for the U.N. human rights office (OHCHR) said. Other reports have said far more civilians have been killed.

Russia conducted extensive nuclear drill with submarines and land-based missiles and troops have been commanded to be "combat ready" following Putin's Ukraine invasion, according to the country's navy. On Tuesday, nuclear submarines sailed off for maneuvers in the Barents Sea, while and mobile missile launchers wandered the snow forests in Siberia.
The drills come after Putin put his nation's nuclear forces on high alert over tensions with the West following the invasion of Ukraine, which has seen his forces suffer huge losses so far without much success. Video footages of the drills being conducted in the Barents Sea have emerged on social media, showing the navy's active participation in the exercises.
Several of Russia's nuclear submarines are taking part in exercises to "train maneuvering in stormy conditions," according to the Northern Fleet. Several warships charged with protecting the area surrounding Russian military outposts on the Arctic Kola Peninsula will also take part in the drills, according to the report.
The Defense Ministry also confirmed that deadly intercontinental ballistic missiles had been launched in secret practice drills in the Irkutsk region of eastern Siberia.
Putin's proclamation covered all elements of Russia's nuclear triad, which includes nuclear submarines armed with intercontinental ballistic missiles, nuclear-tipped land-based ICBMs, and nuclear-capable strategic bombers, similar to the US nuclear triad.
However, the ministry was unsure if the drills were a departure from the country's usual nuclear training efforts. Similar maneuvers are believed to take place throughout the region at various times of the year.
However, a video on social media shows the navy conducting the drills with nuclear submarines and the exercises going on in full swing.

Putin's madness risks nuclear disaster as Ukrainians defend Europe's biggest atomic plant
Reporter : Chris Pleasance, Daily Mail / https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10567943/Putins-paratroopers-land-Kharkiv.html
Volodymyr Zelensky has said that Russia is trying to erase Ukraine and its people as Vladimir Putin's invasion entered its seventh day today with renewed attacks on all fronts including an expected assault on the city which houses Europe's largest nuclear power plant.
Zelenskyy, who has become a symbol of Ukrainian defiance and courage since the war began, told his people on 2 March 2022 that Russians "know nothing about our capital. About our history. But they have an order to erase our history. Erase our country. Erase us all."
The president, unshaven and wearing a military-style khaki T-shirt, said the West's response was not enough, calling for more international support, including backing Ukraine's bid to join the European Union. "This is no time to be neutral," he added.
As he spoke, troops were preparing barricades to defend the city of Zaporizhzhia - including setting up defences around the reactors of Energodar power plant. Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to Ukraine's interior ministry, called on generals to bypass the city while warning they could create a "new Chernobyl" if the plant is damaged.
"Because of Putin's madness, Europe is again on the brink of a nuclear catastrophe," he wrote on Facebook. "The city where the largest nuclear power plant in Europe is located is preparing for a battle with the invaders.
"An accident can happen like at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant or the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Russian generals - think again! Radiation does not know nationalities, does not spare anyone!"
