The container ship Ever Given ran aground on the Suez Canal for several days. The shipping agency Inchcape confirmed on 29 March 2021 morning that the ship has re-floated on the water, which is good news.

Sources pointed out that the Ever Given engine has been restarted, is undergoing preliminary inspection, and is returning to a normal course.

Mohab Mamish, the former Suez Canal Administrator and Egyptian President’s Port Advisor also said that it is expected that the Suez Canal will resume traffic today.

According to a report by Reuters, two local shipping sources pointed out that the Ever Given has been completely straightened. Its engine has restarted, and it is now back on the normal route. On the Internet, there was also a picture of Ever Given being towed and straightened, and the bow of the ship was lifted from the mud and sand, and the river channels for boats are visible on both sides of the canal.

According to CNN, a statement by the Suez Canal Authority mentioned that 18 metres of depth had been dug under the bow of Ever Given, and 27,000 cubic meters of sand had been cleared.

Osama Rabie, the Director of the Suez Canal Authority, pointed out that the ship successfully surfaced after rescue. After it withdrew to the Great Bitter Lake, the channel traffic of the canal will be restored immediately. However, the reasons for the grounding of the ship still need to be further investigated and clarified.
