PCR kit purchases in Hubei could show that Covid began in Wuhan as early as May 2019

Newly obtained data on purchases of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests show a dramatic spike in demand in Wuhan starting in May 2019. The data potentially indicates that COVID-19 (covid, in short) began spreading in the city much earlier than the official Chinese Communist Party (CCP) government accounts and definitely by the early of autumn.

PCR is used for detecting infectious diseases.

On 4 October 2021, Internet 2.0, an Australia-based company that specializes in digital forensics and intelligence analysis, released a report titled “Procuring for a Pandemic: An Assessment of Hubei Province PCR Procurement Contracts." In an attempt to gain insights into the early stages of the pandemic in Wuhan, the company compared procurement contracts over the past 12 years for PCR tests, the favoured scientific method to detect coronavirus infections.

“Abnormal” purchases of PCR equipment by four Wuhan-based CCP government organizations from May to December 2019

Inputting data from Chinese Bidcenter (www.bidcenter.com.cn), the analysts found a dramatic increase in both the total value of contracts and the number of contracts in 2019 over previous years. They also found that purchases increased at an unusually high level in May 2019, possibly indicating that the earliest infections could have been detected in that month.

The study also observed "notable, significant, and abnormal" procurements of PCR equipment in 2019 by the People's Liberation Army Airborne Army Hospital (May 2019), The Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) (November 2019), the Wuhan University of Science and Technology (October 2019), and the Hubei Province Districts Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (May-December 2019).

PCR prices and procurement contracts increase substantially in Wuhan in 2019

Total procurement prices for PCR tests from 2015 to 2018 saw an annual increase of roughly RMB$10 million (S$2,112,036.77) per year. However, in 2019, the price skyrocketed to RMB$67.4 million, nearly double the RMB$36.7 million spent the previous year.

The total number of PCR procurement contracts in 2019 also rose substantially over previous years. In 2019, there were 135 PCR contracts registered, a 51% increase over the 89 seen in 2018, and a much higher percentage increase than in previous years, such as the 23% increase recorded from 2017 to 2018 (72-89); the 35% jump registered from 2016 to 2017 (53-72); and the 1.9% rise seen from 2015 to 2016 (52-53).

The study also looked at which organizations were making the purchases and found that the Wuhan institutions that would be tasked with dealing with an outbreak of a new virus comprised a disproportionate majority of acquisitions as compared to previous years. In 2019, the Wuhan University of Science and Technology, Wuhan CDC, Hubei CDC, and the Institute of Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine accounted for the lion's share of the purchases.

In terms of purchase by month in 2019, there was a sudden and dramatic increase in purchases by the Wuhan CDC, hospitals, animal testing bureaus, and the People's Liberation Army (PLA).

PLA, in particular, acquired the PCR equipment from covi vaccine producer Sinopharm Medical Device Co Ltd, in June 2019.

The study's authors believe that this significant increase in the acquisition of PCR tests since May 2019 potentially points to the earliest start date for infections.

Significant jump in PCR purchases in July and September 2019 in Wuhan

The month of July saw another significant jump in PCR purchases and was matched by the same number in September, when the Wuhan University of Science and Technology increased buys. The authors noted that this organization, which purchased the most PCR tests in 2019, has 35 teaching practice bases, including 22 general hospitals and 10 disease prevention and control centres.

On 12 September 2019, the WIV took its main database of samples and viral sequences offline and has yet to restore online access.

Reliability of Chinese Bidcenter database

The authors of the paper explain that the web-site of Chinese Bidcenter holds the CCP government procurement data from the CCP government web-site data. Active online since June 2007, 99.4% of its traffic comes from mainland China.

The authors assessed that Chinese Bidcenter has a good aggregation service of procurement information to the Chinese customers so that they can understand the government procurement market, pricing and monitor requests for tender nationwide, thus enabling a lot of data transparency in the CCP's digital procurement market.

The latest report finds that there have been cases in Wuhan in the summer of 2019

Reporter : Yu Ting / https://www.ntdtv.com/gb/2021/10/05/a103235058.html / Image : Video Screenshot

A latest investigation report shows that the CCP virus (SARS-CoV-2, Wuhan virus, novel coronavirus, covid virus, covi) may have spread in Wuhan as early as the summer of 2019.

According to a report released this week by the Australian cybersecurity company Internet 2.0, through an open source review of the PCR test contract, it was found that the CCP's expenditure on PCR (polymerase refining reaction) testing in 2019 was the previous year Nearly doubled.

36.7 million yuan in 2018, jumped to 67.4 million yuan in 2019 (approximately 14.3 million US dollars)

The PCR (Polymerase Refining Reaction) test is often used to detect the presence of a specific gene sequence in a sample, and its application range extends beyond COVID-19, which is the Chinese Communist virus test.

The report concluded that the covid highly likely began to spread in Wuhan as early as the summer of 2019, and spread violently in the early autumn.

Some people questioned that the CCP increased the PCR test in response to the African swine fever in Lichuan, Hubei.

However, the Hubei Provincial Animal Disease Prevention and Control Center is responsible for the monitoring of animal diseases.

The report disclosed that the increased purchases of institutions are another group, namely: the Chinese Communist Airborne Corps Hospital (May 2019), Wuhan Institute of Viology (November 2019), Wuhan University of Science and Technology (October 2019) and Hubei Provincial Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (May-December 2019). These institutions "purchased a huge and unusual number of PCR equipment in 2019" in Wuhan.

As an internal government red-headed document was exposed on the Internet on 30 December 2019, the "Emergency Notice on Doing a Good Job in the Treatment of Pneumonia of Unexplained Causes", the Chinese people only learned of the epidemic. The Wuhan Health Commission was forced to announce the first batch of confirmed cases on 31 December 2019.

The report by Internet 2.0 believes that the results of their investigation provide further support and a more in-depth investigation into the source of covi should be conducted.

Oral anti-covid medicine will come out, Food and Drug Administration exposes 3 ways to grab medicine

Reporter : Wu Liangyi / https://health.ltn.com.tw/article/breakingnews/3695295

The U.S. pharmaceutical company Merck has developed a new oral anti-covid drug and plans to pass the U.S Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in November 2021. Taiwan is also preparing to introduce it. Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration has exposed three methods of "grabbing drugs", including official drug certificates, EUA and "drug sample gifts."

Merck & Co., Ltd. Is waiting for the completion of other phased clinical trials before obtaining U.S. drug certificates or emergency use authorization in order to sell the drug as Taiwan also participates in clinical trials, presided over by Zhang Shangchun, the convener of the expert team of our Epidemic Command Centre. Since he has participated in the trial, Taiwan hope to get it early. When it comes to new drugs, Chen Shizhong, the commander of the command centre, also confirmed a few days ago that negotiations are currently underway.

Wu Xiumei, Director of the Food and Drug Administration, said that there are three ways to allow Merck's oral anti-covid drugs to come to Taiwan as soon as possible. The first is to apply for a formal drug certificate. Although it took a long time to apply for a drug certificate in the past, at the beginning of the outbreak of the epidemic early last year, the Food and Drug Administration quickly approved the new drug "Remdesivir" in just 5 days and approved it as a conditional application medicine for treating covid patients.

The second is to apply for an EUA, which can be used in an emergency after passing. The third is "drug sample gifts", which are applied by teaching hospitals above the regional level for the diagnosis and treatment of critical patients. Wu Xiumei said that these three methods need to be submitted by drug dealers or disease management, and approved after being reviewed, and can be sent and reviewed at the same time.

"However, it has not yet been decided which method to use," Wu Xiumei said. At present, neither the CDC nor the manufacturer have submitted an application. So it is not yet certain which method will be used for importing.

As for the estimated procurement plan and budget for new oral drugs? Zhuang Renxiang, a spokesperson for the command centre, said that since it is still negotiating with the pharmaceutical factory, there will be no more room for negotiation if the procurement plan is mentioned. So, it is not convenient to explain.

Singapore has signed an agreement with the American pharmaceutical company Merck to purchase oral drugs that are being developed by the company to fight covi.

Once approved by regulatory agencies, local medical institutions can use this drug to treat covid patients.

The company's research shows that the third phase of clinical trials of this anti-epidemic oral drug monapiravir has achieved good results.

It can reduce the risk of severe illness or death by half. The study subjects of the drug are covid patients who have mild to moderate symptoms, have not been hospitalized, have risk factors such as over 60 years of age, or have other diseases.

Dr. Irene Du Yalan, the Asia-Pacific regional director of Merck Medical Science Affairs, believes that this drug is in line with Singapore's anti-epidemic policy.

Dr. Du Yalan said that early detection of patients or patients with mild symptoms will bring significant results if they can be treated early, and can prevent them from becoming severely ill, requiring hospitalization and using other medical resources.

Australian Prime Minister Morrison announced on Tuesday (5 October 2021) that Australia will purchase 300,000 copies of experimental anti-covid oral drug molnupiravir from U.S. pharmaceutical company Merck. Countries including the United Kingdom, Japan, Malaysia and other countries are interested in purchasing Merck's oral antiviral drugs, and Canada said it is reviewing this drug.

Merck announced that clinical trials have confirmed that its new oral anti-covid drug "Molnupiravir" can greatly reduce the risk of severe hospitalization or death for covid patients. Clinical trial results show that this drug reduces the risk of hospitalization or death from infection by about half. This data has aroused global attention, and many countries have begun to actively negotiate procurement matters.

Morrison said in an interview with local media on Tuesday that 10 capsules of molnuptravir constitute a course of treatment. Every adult infected patient must take two capsules daily for five consecutive days.

Morrison said, "Molnupiravir will allow us to coexist with covi."

He also said that once approved by the Australian Drug Administration, Australia should be able to receive 300,000 copies of the drug course early next year.

The United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and Malaysia have all stated that they are negotiating with Merck to purchase this oral medicine.

At a press conference on 1 October 2021, the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) stated that Merck had submitted an approval application for molnupiravir on 13 August. Dr. Supriya Sharma said that Canada is reviewing treatment as more trial data becomes available. Only after reviewing all necessary evidence, PHAC will make an approval decision.

"We are studying it. We are looking at the data." She said.

She also said that PHAC did not have a specific time to complete the review because it may take "several months" and that the drug will be evaluated like any other drug or treatment, and it is required to "comply with standards."

Canada currently has four approved treatments for covid, including the COVID-19 monoclonal antibody bamlanivimab made in Canada and the antiviral drug remdesivir. However, these treatments require intravenous injections.

If approved, molnupiravir will become the first oral medicine to treat covid.

In an interview with CTV News, Merck CEO Robert Davis called the pill a "game changer" that can be used to treat non-hospitalized, less severe covid cases at home.

However, with the emergence of more clinical trial data, scientists are also studying the risks of taking this drug.

Singapore will allow vaccinated foreign maids to enter from November 2021

From November 2021, Singapore will allow foreign maids who have been vaccinated against the covi vaccine to enter the country.

The authorities will accept new entry applications from vaccinated maids from 15 October 2021.

However, as entry approval continues to be restricted by public health factors, it may eventually take about three to six months for these maids to enter Singapore, subject to the situation of the local covid epidemic in the country of origin of the maids. If the COVID-19 situation in the region improves, the authorities can allow more maids to enter the country.

The Ministry of Manpower has rescheduled those maids whose entry approvals were delayed in May and they will be able to enter the country before the end of 2021.

The authorities will continue to give priority to families in urgent need of care.

The secret of the virus cannot be kept secretive forever

Report by : Wei Jingsheng / https://www.epochtimes.com/gb/21/10/6/n13284832.htm

Image : Vice Minister Sun Lijun revealed the secret of the source of the virus, prompting the West to realize the authenticity of biological warfare and focus on the Wuhan Institute of Virology. (Video Screenshot)

Can the secret of the virus remain secret forever? impossible. A few days ago, the CCP removed another deputy minister of the Ministry of Public Security for investigation, and sent it to justice. Then, another former deputy minister of the Ministry of Public Security and a member of the CPPCC Standing Committee who had retired to the second line were also arrested, saying that it was starting an investigation. In fact, this kind of investigation is the prelude to Qincheng, with almost no exceptions.

Vice Minister Sun Lijun, who was arrested in 2020, was arrested very strangely. He is supervising the frontline of the Wuhan epidemic. He is an imperial minister and was arrested suddenly without any warning. It is said that he has leaked the secret of the source of the virus: He has passed on the secret of the virus to his wife and children, and his intention may be to warn his wife and children not to be careless. Unexpectedly, it became a major political scandal for Xi Jinping to be informed by Australian intelligence agencies. This prompted the West to recognize the authenticity of biological warfare and focus on the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

His rapid arrest illustrates two things: The first is that the Communist Party spies have penetrated the West very seriously. The first mobile phone secret information obtained by Western intelligence units can be quickly transmitted to Beijing, which is much more powerful than the KGB back then. The CCP spies not only undermine the West, but also become a weapon for monitoring the CCP's internal officials—or a weapon for internal fighting. It is one of the ways of exporting to domestic sales.

The second is to prove that Sun Lijun’s leaked information is very accurate, and it is the evidence that prompted Westerners to believe this unbelievable fact. The CCP quickly arrested Sun Lijun, an imperial minister, based on intelligence, which shows that the news is correct. If the news is not correct, or if there is no such thing, there is no need to make such a big move, just like the thief was panicked after being held down.

The arrest is fast but the trial is slow. The dust settled after a year and a half because of differences of opinion. The suspicion that there is no silver three hundred taels here has to avoid suspicion. However, it is hard to avoid suspicion after all the arrests have been caught. The remedy is all kinds of dumping over the past year and a half, plus the sophistication of the shameless and mentally handicapped in the academic world. The effect is good, after all, most of the people do not understand technology, so they are fooled.

On the third day after the announcement of Sun Lijun's case, another former deputy minister of the Ministry of Public Security Fu Zhenghua was arrested. This was a bit confusing for the monk Zhang Er, and he couldn't get in touch all at once. According to an earlier legend, this Fu Zhenghua is very good at triple jump, watching the wind make the rudder. A few years ago, he betrayed his benefactor Zhou Yongkang and became a confidant of President Xi in one fell swoop. Why is it implicated in Sun Lijun's case?

It is estimated that this Fu Zhenghua belongs to the exquisite and exquisite generation. Thoughtfulness is a good hand at investigating cases, from a small scout all the way to Beijing's chief of public security. But without background, you have to rely on thick black to climb up. If you accidentally offend someone, or participate in someone, you fall into a coup conspiracy. It may also be related to Sun Lijun, but it may also be exposed by Sun Lijun under torture. According to investigations, the Deputy Minister was removed a few days after Sun Lijun was arrested.

After all, Sun Lijun cleverly exposed the CCP’s crimes and can be forgiven by people. Fu Zhenghua relied on cracking down on pornographic crimes and cracking several criminal cases, but was forgiven for his inability to atone for his crimes. Based on the lessons of the two of them, according to legend, a senior political and legal official defected to the United States and did not contact the two major sentiment units that were infiltrated. At the same time, Xi Jinping replaced the leaders of the central security department with professional soldiers and other abnormal actions, which all show that people's conscience and small calculations hidden in the heart of the Chinese Communist Party may become the fuse to detonate the powder keg.

Throughout the history of China and foreign countries, a country has reached the stage of infighting, renunciation, and disintegration, and it is the moment of major changes. How to change? There are various possibilities. Every spark has the possibility of being extinguished, and there is also the possibility of detonating the powder keg, there is no certain rule. The only inevitable thing is to change the situation toward a system that everyone thinks is better.

The changes from the Han Dynasty to the Sui and Tang Dynasties, from the Song and Yuan Dynasties to the Ming and Qing Dynasties were all institutional changes. Now is the time when the old system cannot continue, the new system is about to emerge, and it has been in labor for more than a hundred years. This is the prospect of democratization in China.

Lack of Vitamin D prone to cancer? Research reveals the answer

Report by : Furukawa Kenji (Expert in Cancer Immunonutrition Therapy, Doctor of Medicine) / https://www.epochtimes.com/gb/21/10/5/n13283980.htm

Image : Generational studies have clearly pointed out the link between vitamin D deficiency and cancer. (Shutterstock)

In most cancer patients, whether it is remission, deterioration, or recurrence, it is related to Vitamin D deficiency.

Generational studies clearly point out that Vitamin D deficiency is linked to cancer

In addition to clinical examinations, I also continue to study a large number of foreign clinical literature.

How are our daily habits related to modern diseases such as cancer and stroke? In response to this long-term investigation and research, eleven health centers, the National Cancer Research Center, and the National Cardiology Research Center across Japan jointly launched the "Multi-purpose Generation Study" (JPHC Study). The so-called "Cohort Study" refers to the group exposed to a certain disease risk and the group not exposed to the disease risk as a control for long-term follow-up observation; at the same time, the pathogenic factor and the future occurrence of the disease are discussed. The association of is a predictive research method.

From 1990 to 1995, this multi-purpose generational study conducted health checks on 34,000 men and women aged 40-69, collected and preserved blood, and observed the relationship between the concentration of vitamin D in the blood and the risk of cancer. This investigation has been tracked until 2009.

During this period, 3734 people suffered from cancer. At the same time, 4456 people were randomly selected as the control group among those who did not show symptoms of cancer. The survey results are as follows:

Image : Blood vitamin D concentration and cancer risk. (Provided by Shimao)

The risk ratio (Hezard Ratio, relative risk comparison, a statistical term) of the group with the lowest concentration of vitamin D in the blood is 1, and is divided into groups with the second lowest concentration, the second highest concentration, and the highest concentration. As shown in the figure, the hazard ratio of the second low concentration group is 0.81, and the second high concentration group is 0.75.

Looking at the second highest concentration group, compared with the lowest concentration group, it can be seen that the risk of cancer symptoms is reduced by 25%.

In contrast, the risk ratio of the group with the highest blood vitamin D concentration was 0.78 (22% reduction in risk). Although the risk ratio is slightly higher than the second highest concentration group, this is not considered statistically a significant difference. This study mainly shows that vitamin D in the blood in the human body is maintained above a certain concentration, that is, it has the effect of inhibiting the onset of cancer.

Cancer risk of different body parts

Then, in the chart below, you can see the risk of cancer in different parts of the body, based on the group with the lowest vitamin D concentration in the blood, showing the risk ratio of the group with the highest concentration.

Image : Cancers in different parts of the body are at risk. (Provided by Shimao)

It can be seen from the chart that the risk ratios of liver cancer and breast cancer, biliary cancer, lymphoma, lung cancer and other cancers are significantly different. Among them, the risk ratio of liver cancer is 0.45, which means that the blood vitamin D concentration is maintained above 30ng/ml, and the risk of disease is reduced by 55%.

On the other hand, there is no statistically significant difference in the risk ratio between thyroid cancer and leukemia. In addition, patients with gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer and other digestive cancers are also the same. Although compared with the control group, the blood Vitamin D concentration is slightly lower, there is no significant difference in the risk ratio.

As mentioned earlier, the internal organs are responsible for the digestion and absorption of the human body, so it is also considered that there is a problem with the absorption of Vitamin D. Nevertheless, why is there no significant difference in the risk ratio when compared with the control group? This may be because the average Vitamin D concentration in the blood of the control group is also low.

From this we can draw a possible conclusion that people who have no symptoms of cancer have the same Vitamin D deficiency or deficiency as cancer patients.

One shot of "sky-price magic drug" to zero cancer cells? Experts reveal

Image : CCP media claim that the first CAR-T therapy drug in China can "clear" cancer cells with a single shot, but in fact there are many question marks. (Shutterstock)

The Chinese media recently claimed that a domestically produced “anti-cancer drug” with an asking price of RMB 1.2 million can “zero out” cancer cells. The report is referring to CCP China's first CAR-T therapy drug-akirenxet injection. Is this treatment that has been around for many years in the West really so magical?

CAR-T therapy: tailor-made anti-cancer drugs

T cells are a type of lymphocytes that can directly attack pathogen-infected cells, cancer cells, and even foreign transplanted cells or tissues, and play an important role in the immune response. Dr. Lin Xiaoxu, former director of the Department of Virology of the US Army Research Institute, pointed out that cancer cells have a mechanism to avoid T cell attack, and CAR-T therapy (chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapy) is to genetically modify T cells to make them change. Into CAR-T cells, which can more effectively identify cancer cells.

CAR-T therapy has 4 main steps:

1. Collecting and separating T cells: Collect patient blood and separate T cells from the blood.

2. Genetically modified T cells: The CAR gene required for therapy is introduced into the isolated T cells by artificial means. The CAR gene can recognize some common antigens on cancer cells.

3. Expansion of CAR-T cells in vitro: After T cells are upgraded to CAR-T cells, they are cultivated and expanded in vitro. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), millions of CAR-T cells will be cultivated.

4. Inject back into the patient's body: Inject millions of CAR-T cells into the patient's body by injection, allowing them to play the role of attacking cancer cells.

Because CAR-T therapy cannot be produced in large quantities, it is designed for specific antigens of cancer cells in the patient's body. It is a tailor-made drug that only has a specific effect on the individual, so it is expensive.

CAR-T therapy is based on chemotherapy. Injury to the body with serious side effects

The shortcomings of CAR-T therapy are its high price and great harm to the body.

Lin Xiaoxu pointed out that although T cells are used in patients, they still have to be transfused into the body after genetic modification, and they still face two practical problems: They may be treated as foreign bodies by the body, and CAR-T cells may also attack the original T cells in the body. "This is almost an unavoidable problem," he said.

Therefore, before receiving CAR-T therapy, chemotherapy is required. In addition to destroying and inhibiting cancer cells in the body, chemotherapy also severely damages the immune system. After the chemotherapy is completed, CAR-T cells are injected into the body, and the body with weakened immune function is not easy to attack CAR-T cells, which just demonstrates the effectiveness of this therapy.

"This is a very important link," Lin Xiaoxu emphasized, but it is rarely mentioned in the media at present.

In addition, is the report's claim of "zeroing" cancer cells true? In fact, Xu Pengpeng, deputy chief physician of the Department of Hematology of Ruijin Hospital, told Lu Mei that this is an inaccurate statement. Even if CAR-T therapy can temporarily cure cancer patients, like other anti-cancer therapies, it is necessary to observe whether the patient will relapse in the future. CAR-T cell therapy is a third-line treatment. First-line treatment is usually the most ideal plan, second-line treatment is the plan taken after the first-line treatment fails, and so on.

Lin Xiaoxu said that attention should be paid to the specific advantages and disadvantages of the treatment for patients. He further explained that CAR-T therapy may be able to kill a thousand enemies, but it may also damage one thousand and disrupt the immune system.

CAR-T therapy itself also has serious side effects, mainly including cytokine release syndrome (CRS), immune effector cell-related neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS), off-target effects, allergic reactions, etc.

According to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, some immunotherapies involving T cells can easily cause cytokine release syndrome (CRS). This type of side effect occurs when immune cells are activated and release a large amount of cytokines into the body. Patients will have fever, headache, and hypotension, which can lead to organ failure and even death.

A study in the academic journal "Blood Transfusion Medicine Review" shows that the incidence of blood cancer patients receiving CAR-T therapy can be as high as 55.3%. Many patients must use some auxiliary therapeutic agents during treatment to reduce the cytokine storm.

Immune Effector Cell-Associated Neurotoxicity Syndrome (ICANS) can cause patients to suddenly experience shock-like symptoms. Off-target effects are CAR-T cells that were originally intended to attack tumour cells, but they kill normal cells by mistake.

These side effects put patients at great risk. If conditions occur during the entire treatment process, doctors need to deal with them immediately to avoid life-threatening events.

CAR-T therapy not suitable for covid treatment

In the covid epidemic, some scholars have also discussed whether CAR-T therapy can be used to treat covid patients.

Lin Xiaoxu said that the principle of CAR-T therapy can theoretically treat covid but it is actually not suitable. Because the covi replicates too fast in the human body, covid develops rapidly, and the preparation of drugs is too time-consuming, and there is no time to cultivate CAR-T cells, and the covid virus will also attack the body.

CAR-T therapy is not a panacea. In the treatment of cancer, it is only effective for the treatment of blood cancer and lymphoma. This therapy is still being improved, and there are more and more studies on the corresponding side effects. Before choosing whether to use this treatment method, cancer patients should discuss and carefully evaluate with their doctors based on their own conditions.

WHO endorses the world's first-ever malaria vaccine

The World Health Organization (WHO) had endorsed the world's first-ever malaria vaccine, which could save hundreds of thousands of lives every year.

On Wednesday, the agency commended widespread use of the RTS,S malaria vaccine - developed by British pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) - for children in sub-Saharan Africa and in other regions with moderate to high levels of malaria transmission.

The complete jab requires four doses to be given to children aged five months and older.

The WHO said the RTS,S malaria vaccine provides a 30 percent reduction in deadly severe malaria. Data submitted to WHO show the vaccine is safe and effective, and is feasible to deliver to rural parts of the continent.

GSK said that when the vaccine is given in combination with seasonal administration of antimalarial drugs, the vaccine 'lowers clinical episodes of malaria, hospital admissions with severe malaria, and deaths by around 70 percent.'

The vaccine has already been delivered to more than 800,000 children through an ongoing pilot program across Ghana, Kenya and Malawi.

With more than 400,000 deaths globally every year - of which more than than 260,000 are African children - experts believe the vaccine could reduce the annual death toll dramatically over the next few years.

It has been estimated that the vaccine, which has been in the making for three decades, could save 'millions' of lives.

The malaria vaccine can be successfully rolled into existing immunization programs

Gavi, the international vaccine alliance, said the pilots showed that the vaccine can be successfully rolled into existing immunization programs.

'We have long hoped for an effective malaria vaccine and now for the first time ever, we have such a vaccine recommended for widespread use,' Dr Matshidiso Moeti, WHO's regional director for Africa, said during the press conference.

'Today's recommendation offers a glimmer of hope for the continent which shoulders the heaviest burden of the disease and we expect many more African children to be protected from malaria and grow into healthy adults.'

GSK said it is 'working with partners to develop solutions to ensure equitable and long-term access to the RTS,S vaccine for the people who need it'.

The company donated 10 million doses for the pilot scheme, which began in 2019 to test the feasibility of the rollout, and it has also committed to supply up to 15 million doses annually at no more than 5% above the cost of production.

About malaria

Malaria is a serious disease often caused by a parasite that commonly infects Anopheles mosquitoes, which in turn transmit the disease to humans.

It can also be transmitted - albeit less frequently - through blood transfusion, organ transplants, or needle-sharing.

People often develop a flu-like illness including fever, headaches, chills, muscle pain, nausea and vomiting.

About 400,000 people die from malaria globally every year with children under age five particularly susceptible. The disease claims the life of a child every two minutes.

Fifteen countries - all but one in sub-Saharan Africa - carry 80 percent of the global malaria burden.

Special report from the French Senate: Confucius Institutes are used by the CCP

Image : Video Screenshot

On 5 October 2021, the French Senate issued a special report revealing that the CCP used Confucius Institutes to influence the French academic community.

Following the release of the heavyweight report on the CCP by the Institute for Strategic Studies of the French Military Academy (IRSEM) last month, the French Senate also issued a 243-page report detailing the influence of countries outside Europe on France, including how the CCP Use Confucius Institutes to influence French universities and academia.

Senate Blanc (Étienne Blanc), who is in charge of this report, stated that China (the Communist Party) has become the most prominent regime with organized influence and infiltrating other countries around the world.

The report pointed out that on the one hand, the CCP uses large foreign propaganda and humanities and social sciences to shape its image and reputation; on the other hand, it collects sensitive scientific data around the world to obtain strategic, economic or military advantages. The Confucius Institute is one of the means by which the CCP exerts these influences. The CCP has established Confucius Institutes around the world to promote the so-called "Chinese culture" independently or in cooperation with universities. However, these Confucius Institutes are considered to be CCP's "propaganda tools", which not only threaten the academic freedom of partners, but even harbour spies.

The report also recommends that French universities and educational institutions should be particularly vigilant against foreign students and protect France's scientific achievements and academic freedom.

U.S.-CCP consensus on principles, Biden and Xi Jinping expect to meet at the end of the year

Reporter : Chen Beichen / Editor: Lin Qing / https://www.ntdtv.com/gb/2021/10/06/a103236090.html

A senior White House official said that Washington and Beijing reached a consensus in principle on Wednesday (6 October 2021) and agreed to hold a US-China summit before the end of the year. It is expected that Biden and Xi Jinping A video conference will take place.

This was disclosed six hours after the White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan and Yang Jiechi, the highest-ranking diplomat of the Chinese Communist Party, met in Zurich.

A White House official said that Biden had been with Xi Jinping for a long time when he was the vice president of the United States. The president mentioned in the phone call last month that he hopes to see Xi Jinping again, so he proposed the idea of holding a bilateral meeting.

At present, the details of the meeting have yet to be determined.

According to the Associated Press, the official spoke anonymously because he was not authorized to comment publicly on the meeting between Sullivan and Yang Jiechi.

Since Xi Jinping has not left Beijing since the outbreak of the epidemic, it is expected that he may not personally attend the upcoming G20 summit in Rome and the United Nations Climate Conference in Scotland.

In response to the White House's earlier statement, Sullivan emphasized to Yang Jiechi on 6 October that the United States and China must maintain communication channels. At the same time, he also confronted China (the Chinese Communist Party) for its recent military provocations against Taiwan, human rights violations against ethnic minorities, and Beijing's efforts to suppress human rights in Hong Kong. Expressed concern about the activities.

"Sullivan made it clear that although we will continue to develop from our own national power and work closely with our allies and partners, we will also continue to engage with high-level Chinese officials to ensure responsible competition," the White House said in a statement.

A White House official said that Sullivan’s conversation on the 6th was described as the most in-depth meeting between the two parties since the Biden administration took office in January this year.

The White House stated that this meeting is intended as a follow-up to the call between Biden and Xi Jinping last month. During the call, Biden emphasized the need to set clear boundaries (range) in the competition.

The U.S.-CCP China relationship is becoming increasingly tense. For four consecutive days since 1 October, the CCP has sent nearly 150 military aircraft to invade the Taiwan Air Defense Identification Zone. The United States urges the CCP to stop "provocative" military operations that undermine peace and stability.

US Secretary of State Blinken reiterated on the 6th that Beijing's "provocative" operation undermined regional peace and stability. Blinken said, "We solemnly ask Beijing to stop its military, diplomatic, and economic pressure and coercion against Taiwan."

The CCP sent 56 fighters to Taiwan on Monday (4 October 2021) alone, setting a record in the past.

At the beginning of his presidency, Biden promised to press Beijing’s human rights record to continue the previous government’s stance on the CCP.

In March 2021, the United States coordinated with the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Canada to impose sanctions on the detention and abuse of Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities by Chinese officials.

In June 2021, Biden and G7 leaders criticized the CCP's use of forced labour and other activities that violate human rights in a joint statement.

The United States also signaled this week that it will temporarily continue the previous government’s policy of imposing high tariffs on Chinese goods.
