On 16 December 2020, China Airlines celebrates its 61st anniversary. In conjunction with the birthday, its first 777F freighter donning the new livery of its subsidiary China Airlines Cargo has also been refurbished and is ready to enter operations. The newly introduced 777F dual-engine all-cargo aircraft of China Airlines has the advantages of fuel economy and high performance. It has become the new force of China Airlines' fleet in the post-epidemic era, opening up a new generation of China Airlines Cargo.
Xie Shiqian, Chairman of China Airlines, pointed out that the six 777F freighters ordered by China Airlines are scheduled to be delivered between 2020 and 2023. The first 777F freighter arrived in Taiwan on 1 December 2020, and two more will be delivered by the end of January 2021. These three 777F freighters will be delivered. After the investment, China Airlines Cargo will be even more powerful. It will operate on the scale of 21 freighters in 2021, opening up a new generation of China Airlines Cargo operations. It is expected to create more cash income for China Airlines Cargo under the urgent demand for air cargo aircraft in vaccine distribution to the international markets.
China Airlines Cargo's first 777F freighter is numbered B-18771, which adopts the 747F freighter number that was retired in 2004, symbolizing the handover of new-generation freighters, inheriting the glory of China Airlines as the sixth largest air cargo in the world, and creating another peak. In order to welcome the new member of the China Airlines fleet family and demonstrate the characteristics of the new fleet, the 777F fleet adopts a new livery paint scheme, maintaining the corporate standard colour of the cargo logo "CARGO", with the stylized capital letter C showing the island shape of Taiwan and continuing the spirit of China Airlines "Red Plum Blossom". This freighter has been refurbished and verified, and will serve destinations in Asia and North America.
The advantage of the dual-engine 777F freighter can save about 20% of fuel consumption. It has a longer range than the existing 747 freighter. It is suitable for trans-Pacific routes, reduces payload restrictions and makes space utilization more efficient. The whole aircraft is also equipped with a complete cargo compartment temperature control function. The main cargo compartment can be loaded with a semiconductor machine and an engine pallet suppression system to prepare for high-priced goods such as precision instruments and temperature control.
China Airlines is the only airline in Taiwan that has obtained CEIV international certification (The IATA Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics, CEIV Pharma), and it is one of the 17 airlines in the world that can provide temperature-controlled cold chain services as a freight forwarder.
