Zhao Xiaolan's family related to CCP

According to media reports, Zhao Xiaolan, McConnell's wife and Minister of Transportation, has a close family relationship with the top CCP. Zhao's father and former CCP leader Jiang Zemin are alumni. Biden also has close contacts with the CCP, so it is not surprising that McConnell turned to Biden at the last minute.

The Zhao Xiaolan family has a close relationship with Beijing

Zhao Xiaolan was born in Taiwan and speaks fluent Chinese. He is the first federal government minister of Chinese origin in the United States.

On June 3 last year, the New York Times published a long article through interviews, inspection of industry records and government documents, revealing that Zhao Xiaolan and her family business Fumao Group have close relations with Beijing's political and business circles.

According to the report, the relationship between the Zhao family and the CCP dates back decades. Zhao Xiaolan's father, Zhao Xicheng, fled China before the Communist Party took power in 1949. He was a classmate with Jiang Zemin before.

The Zhao family later bought a stake in a state-owned marine electronic equipment manufacturer. The company mainly sells to the Chinese military and other departments, and is closely related to the Ministry of Electronics Industry where Jiang Zemin was the minister at the time.

After Jiang later became the leader of the CCP, Zhao Xicheng met with Jiang at least six times, including in August 1989, after the CCP’s June 4 massacre, he met Jiang in Zhongnanhai. At that time, the CCP was facing economic sanctions from the international community.

The report said that some of the cargo ships of the Zhao family-owned Fumao Group were built by Chinese state-owned shipyards, some of which were funded by loans from the Chinese Communist government. According to shipping data for 2019, more than 70% of Fumao's cargo is shipped to China, most of which are iron ore.

As Zhao Xiaolan's political reputation increased, the CCP sought to win over the Zhao family. An official CCP publishing house has published authorized biographies of her parents in recent years, and also held a release ceremony attended by senior CCP officials. When Zhao Xiaolan visited Beijing in 2018, the Minister of Communications of the Communist Party of China sent two hand-drawn portraits of her parents.

In addition, at the hearing for the appointment of the Secretary of Transportation, the Senate asked the nominee to list all honorary positions, but Zhao Xiaolan did not mention that her family was in contact with China, nor did she disclose the honors she received in China, such as those of the Wuhan Municipal Government for the position of international consultant.

Zhao Xiaolan under investigations

On September 16 last year, the US House of Representatives Supervision and Government Reform Committee announced that Zhao Xiaolan was under investigation. She was accused of using her position in the Trump administration's cabinet to benefit her family's shipping business. The scope of the investigation includes: Zhao Xiaolan used official positions to enhance the influence and status of Fumao Group in the CCP government; and the CCP government provided Fumao Group with hundreds of millions of dollars in low-interest loans for the purchase of ships flying foreign flags.
