A World Health Organization (WHO) official said on 5 February 2021 that the international expert group in Wuhan asked a lot of questions about SARS-CoV-2 (CCP virus, covi, novel coronavirus, Wuhan virus) traceability but each answer gave rise to more questions. In the future, international and Chinese experts will write a report together, and this is an advance notice. This report cannot address all the questions.

The WHO international expert group is conducting traceability work for the disease covid (for COVID-19) in Wuhan. On 5 February, the media asked at the WHO press conference about the power of the traceability working group and when the report will be released.

WHO epidemiologist Maria Van Kerkhove replied that the international expert team has already visited hospitals, the Wuhan Municipal CDC and the P4 laboratory of Wuhan Institute of Virology in Wuhan. They have had constructive dialogues with Chinese scientists. A lot of questions were asked but each answer spawned more questions.

Van Kerkhove  pointed out that the international expert team is currently collating and analyzing the collected data. After all the interviews, there will be a report. This time it will be written by members of the international and Chinese teams. The WHO will not have any opinions as they will be written by the scientists among the international expert group now in Wuhan. She said that various studies on traceability are underway but these studies are the starting point and more follow-up studies are needed.

Therefore, the WHO international expert group's report cannot give all the answers because it is impossible and it is not the WHO’s original intention of the visit. The WHO would provide a summary report after the visit including the results of earlier studies, which will be announced once the report is completed. The WHO expert team started on-site work for about two weeks on 29 January 2021. The itinerary was followed up and studied by Chinese officials. In the past few days, they have been to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the Wuhan Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market where the epidemic broke out, and the Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital where patients were treated.

The expert team arrived at Wuhan Institute of Virology on 3 February. This research institute is the most watched destination in this covi traceability work. Outsiders have suspected that the CCP virus leaked from this research institute, which in turn detonated a global epidemic.

One of the members of the international expert group, Peter Daszak, said that when the group members visited the Wuhan Institute of Virology, they had "open discussions with researchers including Shi Zhengli and answering key questions." Shi Zhengli has long studied bats carrying coronaviruses. In 2017, they found that bats carry SARS-related viruses. She was also the first expert in China to isolate SARS-CoV-2. She has also been questioned by the outside world as the key figure in the virus leaked by the Wuhan Institute of Virology. (Central News Agency)
