With the Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) imminent, infighting within the top leadership of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is intensifying. Because internal operations are often kept secret, various factions are leveraging party media and overseas media outlets to "leak" information.
Jiang Weiping, a former senior reporter for the Wenhui Daily's Northeast Office, noted that the People's Daily has recently been frequently signaling support for Hu Chunhua. The October 14th article, titled "Niu Bole," was bluntly intended to allude to Hu Jintao using "Bole" and Hu Chunhua using "Qianlima". Meanwhile, the party media also established a so-called "Inner Mongolia Research and Reporting Group," suggesting that Hu Chunhua may be being promoted. This series of actions suggests that the "old guard" has temporarily gained the upper hand, making Hu Chunhua a likely successor. Jiang Weiping emphasized, "Hu Chunhua was personally discovered by Hu Jintao, and the 'Bo Le' here refers to Hu Jintao."
He further analyzed the hidden political implications of the People's Daily article "Youthful Splendor: Great Rivers and Oceans Strive Forward, 6,000 People Sing This Song Together," published on October 13th. "Youthful Splendor" sounds like "Please Hu Chunhua Take the Helm," "Great" is an exclamation, and "Rivers and Oceans Strive Forward" alludes to the ocean. Jiang Weiping believes this indicates that Xi Jinping has lost power, and that Hu Jintao's direct followers are expected to take power after the Fourth Plenum. If this happens, Xi Jinping's forces will face a major purge, with Li Zhanshu likely to be the first to be targeted. Ling Jihua's case may be retried, and Li Keqiang's death may also be thoroughly investigated. This would be a devastating blow to Xi Jinping's team.
Jiang Weiping also pointed out that although core media outlets such as the People's Daily are civilian-run, they have long been controlled by the military. The front-page article sent such a clear signal that Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao, Wang Yang, and Hu Chunhua, among others, have the support of the military. While working in the media, he met media professionals from Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily, and CCTV, who all said these core departments were under military control.
Aboluowang commentator Wang Duran stated that this so-called "Youth Splendor" event was jointly sponsored by the Cyberspace Administration of China, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Water Resources, People's Daily, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, and the Cyberspace Administration of Jiangsu Province. It was part of the 2025 "Writing a Splendor of Youth on the Land of the Motherland" online promotional and interactive activities for major ideological and political courses. "Great Hohai University's Journey Ahead" refers to activities related to Hohai University. It might be an overstatement to refer to Hohai University as Wang Yang.
