US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin held their first bilateral summit in Switzerland on 16 June 2021. Two-stage talks were held bilaterally. After the second-stage talks were over, White House officials revealed that the talks ended early, which was shorter than the scheduled time. Biden also left the meeting place afterwards hastily.
Biden and Putin held a bilateral summit at Villa La Grange in Geneva, Switzerland, to discuss issues including cyber attacks, election interference, and human rights violations. The first phase of the meeting between the two lasted for about an hour and a half. In addition to the two presidents, the participants included US State Minister Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
President Biden’s high-stakes summit meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin wrapped up earlier than anticipated — with American reporters left in the dark and initially dependent on Russia’s foreign ministry for information on the discussions.
The talks ended at 5:05 pm local time after an introductory sit down at 1:39 pm — meaning that the entire summit lasted fewer than 4 hours, rather than the 4-5 hours predicted by the White House.
What happened inside a set of two meetings was not immediately clear. Press was not allowed in the room, though Russia’s foreign ministry tweeted a photo giving journalists a glimpse of US and Russian officials attending the second, larger meeting.

Severe limits on press access by Biden
Biden’s inaugural trip abroad to the UK, Belgium and Switzerland has seen severe limits on press access.
On Monday, the White House scrapped a similar “pool spray” at the start of Biden’s meeting with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the NATO summit in Belgium. Frustrated US reporters, waiting in a hallway for 112 minutes, were left dependent on Turkey’s government, which regularly imprisons journalists, for information.

Research: Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is less than 50% effective against three major covi variants
The latest research report released by the National International Medical Research Center of Japan shows that Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is less than 50% effective against Covi17 and Covi72. The effectiveness against Covi51 is less than 33.4%. This result is quite different from the results of similar studies in the UK.
According to Kyodo News, Japan’s National International Medical Research Center first collected blood samples from the subjects, and then observed the neutralizing antibody values in the blood after the subjects were vaccinated, and then used a sample of WIV04 strain in Wuhan, China as a research control. In the end, the researchers came to the above-mentioned unoptimistic conclusion.
The outside world has noticed that on 14 June the UK Public Health Agency of England (PHE) also announced similar research results from research institutions in the country. Data from the United Kingdom shows that the effectiveness of two doses of Pfizer vaccine against Covi17 can reach 93%, and the effectiveness against Covi72 is 88%.
British experts and Japanese experts conducted similar research, but the data obtained by the experts are quite different, which makes the outside world confused.
In addition, according to a report published by Reuters at the end of May this year, the Institut Pasteur of France has also conducted a study on the effectiveness of Pfizer vaccines against variant viruses. The institute conducted a sample survey of 28 medical staff in Orleans, a city in north-central France. Of these personnel, 16 have received 2 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, while the other 12 have received 2 or 1 dose of AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine.
The scientific director of the Pasteur Institute, Olivier Schwartz, told the media that their study found that people who received 2 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine had antibodies produced in their bodies against Covi72 only as effective against Covi17 and Covi51. One-third to one-sixth of those who received only one dose of the AZ vaccine, the antibodies in the body had "little no inhibitory effect" on Covi72.

US President Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin held their first meeting in Geneva, Switzerland on June 16. In the joint statement, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to reducing the risk of armed conflict and emphasized that nuclear war must not be fought.
After Biden came to power, US-Russian relations fell to a freezing point, and the two sides even expelled ambassadors from each other. This time, the talks between Biden and Putin eased relations between the two countries.
After the talks, the leaders of the United States and Russia issued a joint statement stating that even during periods of tension, the United States and Russia can still make progress on their common goals, ensure predictability in strategic areas, and reduce the risk of armed conflict and the threat of nuclear war.
The statement read, "We reaffirm the principle that there is no winner in a nuclear war and that there will never be a nuclear war."
The U.S. State Department and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will set up a working group to negotiate the revision and extension of the "New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty," which is a treaty that restricts the deployment of strategic nuclear warheads and delivery systems between the two countries.
In addition, the statement also mentioned that the United States and Russia will begin to integrate the strategic stability dialogue between the two sides to lay the foundation for weapons control and risk reduction measures in the future.
Biden's meeting with Putin took place in the 18th century Swiss manor Villa La Grange. The meeting lasted more than three hours.
After the meeting, the two heads of state held a press conference respectively. Putin said at the press conference that the meeting was "constructive" and there was no "hostility", which showed the leaders' desire for mutual understanding.
He said that the two sides agreed that the diplomats expelled from each other would return to their posts. Russia has confirmed that Antoly Antonov, its ambassador to the United States, will return to Washington at the end of June.
Biden said at the press conference: The tone of his meeting with Putin was "positive." There were some disagreements between the two sides, but no sharp action was taken.
Biden also stated that he does not think Putin is seeking a cold war with the United States. "Russia is in a very, very difficult situation. They are being squeezed by China (the CCP). They desperately want to maintain their status as a great power."
Biden said that his relationship with Putin is not about trust, but about "self-interest and the verification of self-interest." "As the old saying goes,'If the pudding is good, we will know after eating'. We will know soon."

The covid epidemic has been around for one and a half years, and the "Long COVID" (long covid) continues to haunt doctors. A new large-scale study found that hundreds of thousands of Americans seek medical care for post-covid health problems, and they were not diagnosed with these problems before they were infected.
The US non-profit healthcare organization "FAIR Health" released a new report on 15 June. The report analyzed the private medical insurance records of nearly 2 million Chinese patients with pneumonia in 2020. The study covers a wide range of people, from infants to the elderly, of which approximately 53% are women and 47% are men. "FAIR Health" stated that an independent academic reviewer has evaluated the report, but it has not yet undergone formal peer review.
The report shows that almost a quarter of people (23%) seek treatment for a new health problem one month or more after infection. The affected people involve people of all ages, including children. Their most common new symptoms are pain, including nerve and muscle pain; as well as breathing difficulties, high cholesterol, discomfort and fatigue, and high blood pressure. Others include intestinal problems, migraines, skin problems, heart abnormalities, sleep disorders, and mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.
It is generally believed that patients with severe illnesses are most likely to report post-CCV symptoms, but the study shows that even in mild patients who have been infected with SARS-CoV-2 (CCP virus) for the first time, post-CCV health problems are common. Although nearly half of the patients hospitalized with the CCP virus experienced subsequent health problems, the same was true for 27% of those with mild or moderate symptoms and 19% of those who said they had no symptoms.
"One thing that surprised us is that asymptomatic patients account for a large proportion of the category of'new crown chronic symptoms'." said Robin Gelburd, president of "FAIR Health".
Gelbert said that the fact that asymptomatic people may have symptoms after the CCP virus is very important, so that patients and doctors know that some health problems may actually be sequelae of the CCP virus. Some people may not even know that they are infected with the CCP virus, but if they continue to experience something unusual compared to their health history, it may be worthy of further investigation by medical professionals.
"To process so much data, this is a difficult study." said Dr. Helen Chu, assistant professor of medicine and infectious diseases at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Although she did not participate in the report, she affirmed the report. She said that the real strength of this study lies in its scale and its ability to observe the severity of the disease in different age groups.
Although patients of all ages and genders have reported symptoms after the CCP virus, their specific symptoms vary to some extent due to age and gender. For example, gastrointestinal problems are the third most common symptom in pediatric patients, but it is the 11th most common symptom in patients between 40 and 49 years of age. High cholesterol is the second most common symptom in patients between the ages of 50 and 59, but it ranks 13th among the most common symptoms in children.
In the new study, 58% of the "long-term symptoms of covid" were women, and most of the symptoms analyzed were more frequent in women. But certain problems, such as heart disease and kidney failure, affect men even more.
Experts said that overall, the report’s findings emphasized the widespread and diverse symptoms of the CCP virus. People with "long-term symptoms of covid" require multidisciplinary care, and the health system should adapt to this reality and improve its ability to deal with these patients.

Pompeo builds political team, "breaks down" Democrats in midterm election
Research, editing : Gan Yung Chyan, KUCINTA SETIA
According to the U.S. "Brebart News", former U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo has established a Political Action Committee (PAC) to help the Republicans win back in next year’s midterm elections the majority of seats in the Senate and House of Representatives.
The political action committee established by former U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo aims not only to help the Republicans regain the majority of seats in the Senate and House of Representatives, but also to help conservatives win the state-level legislature and local elections.
Pompeo revealed that the committee has already held dozens of events, and more events will be arranged in the future to "discuss things that are important to the American people and American workers" with voters to ensure that they all vote and help the Republicans win the midterm elections in 2022.
