Covid patient with "ICU syndrome" stripped naked and ran out of the ward in Taipei

A man diagnosed with covid was admitted to Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital. He took off his clothes and ran out of the ward without knowing it because of symptoms of "ICU syndrome" such as chaotic behavior, confusion and memory loss. The hospital said that besides prescribing drugs for similar patients, family care is also very important. 

Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital explained that acute confusion is a common symptom in the intensive care unit (ICU), commonly known as ICU syndrome, which refers to the closed environment and physical complications of the intensive care unit, resulting in psychological and behavioral changes that cause delirium, psychological diseases such as symptoms and memory deficits. 

According to the hospital, the patient went to the emergency department for screening on 22 May due to wheezing, coughing, and sputum. It was found that his blood oxygen concentration was low and his lung X-rays were infiltrated on both sides, and he was admitted on the 23rd for ICU intubation treatment. 

The hospital stated that the patient was transferred to the special ward on the 28th and walked out of the ward with a drip at 1pm on 30 May He happened to be spotted by a nurse wearing a waterproof isolation gown. He was quickly placed back in the room and had a consultation. 

Physician of Psychosomatic Medicine. Chen Yiqian, Director of the Department of Physical and Mental Medicine of Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital, pointed out that clinically, the proportion of ICU syndromes is not low, especially during the covid epidemic, patients in isolation aggravated their symptoms. Chen Yiqian said that in addition to prescribing drugs for such patients, the patients will also be taught to record the space and time they are currently in to assist in their cognitive reconstruction. Secondly, family care is also very important. Keeping the phone connected can make the patient feel at ease and return to normal as soon as possible. (Central News Agency)
