No cure for infection with Covi72, Guangzhou nurse diagnosed, two hospitals closed

Covi72 detected in at least 50 countries

The covi variant B16172 (Covi72)  has spread to at least 50 countries around the world. Malaysia’s health director Nohishan said at a press conference on 11 May that Covi72 spreads very fast, and all drugs are currently ineffective against the variant virus, and covid is easily confirmed. Patients can only fight the virus in the hospital, which is a huge challenge for epidemic prevention.

Nohishan said that Covi72 tends to be transmitted to young people. Many patients unfortunately passed away because they could not get timely treatment.

He also pointed out at the press conference on 18 May that most of the patients infected with the Indian variant virus did not show symptoms such as cough or fever, but would have symptoms of joint pain, fatigue and loss of appetite. In fact, the variant virus has already rapidly spread to the lungs.

Guangzhou nurse diagnosed with covid

The epidemic in Guangzhou spread rapidly. On 4 June 2021, a male nurse was diagnosed with covid and the variant strain detected is B16172 (Covi72). Two third-class hospitals in Guangzhou urgently announced a one-day closure. Some hospital directors reiterated that Covi72 is circulating in Guangzhou and is more contagious and faster. Earlier, some overseas experts pointed out that all current drugs are ineffective against Covi72, posing a huge challenge to the prevention and control of the epidemic.

Two Guangzhou hospitals closed on 4 June 2021

On 4 June, the outpatient department of the Dade Road General Hospital of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University (including the general outpatient clinics, fever clinics, emergency clinics, and outpatient clinics of the Yanjiang Road Campus, the Comprehensive Building of the Yanjiang Campus, and the Haiyin Hospital Medical technical examination, outpatient treatment, health checkup, etc.) will be suspended for one day.

The distance between the two hospitals is less than 1 km in a straight line. According to the mainland Caixin website, the suspension of outpatient services in two hospitals is related to the diagnosis of a male nurse at Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine on 4 June.

The report quoted a person familiar with the matter as saying, "It is currently not possible to confirm where he was infected, and it is not possible to determine the infection in the hospital for the time being."

In addition, on 3 June, the Fangcun Outpatient Clinic and the Liwan Outpatient Clinic of the Affiliated Brain Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University have been completely closed, and the recovery time will be notified separately.

Earlier (on 31 May), the Eighth Hospital Affiliated to Guangzhou Medical University suspended all outpatient and emergency services (including vaccination and nucleic acid testing) in the Jiahe District, and the resumption time will be notified separately.

On 3 June, Lei Chunliang, Dean of the Eighth Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, reiterated to the media that compared with the previous epidemic in Guangzhou, the currently circulating covi variant virus is more virulent and spreads faster.

Guangzhou in a state of semi-closure

Since the Covi72 outbreak in Guangzhou on 21 May 21, Guangzhou has been in a state of semi-closure. Unmanned vehicles deliver living supplies

Because the mutant virus is too contagious, Guangzhou has dispatched unmanned vehicles to deliver living supplies to the Liwan quarantine area. Guangzhou self-driving car companies Baidu, JD.com, Wenyuan, Xiaoma, and Yihang all plan to send unmanned vehicles. At present, three Wenyuan Zhixing vehicles have driven into the isolation area, a minibus is on standby at the Hedong Bridge, and unmanned vehicles such as Baidu Xiaoma will also arrive one after another. Covid tally of Guangzhou on 4 June 2021

As of 4 June, Guangzhou had reported a total of 840 imported confirmed cases, 441 domestic confirmed cases (including overseas imported related cases), and 1 death. However, some citizens in Guangzhou questioned that the authorities are concealing the epidemic, and the published data seems to have shrunk seriously.
