Japan Airlines flight JL809 delivers the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccines to Taiwan, thanks to Taiwan’s assistance in the 311 earthquake in Japan. Not only does the vaccine itself cost no money to Taiwan, the Japanese government is also responsible for all the shipping costs.

Flight JL809 operated by Japan Airlines 787 Dreamliner registered JA824J arrives in Taoyuan on 4 June 2021 at 1.59 pm. According to TVBS News, the 1.24 million doses of AZ vaccine are stored in 17 vaccine refrigerators this time. JAL's own "vaccine refrigerators" were also rented. The asking rent for one was more than NT$100,000. These 17 transportation containers alone cost at least  NT$170,000, including vaccine and cargo aircraft transportation costs.

The Oxford AZ vaccine needs to be stored and transported in an environment of 2 to 8 degrees Celsius. Therefore, it needs to be stored in a special refrigerated freezer on the plane. The temperature can be maintained by electricity and dry ice.

Relevant personnel on the apron of Taoyuan Airport  swiftly stepped forward to assist in unloading and sent them to the cold chain storage of pharmaceutical logistics. Due to the heavy rain on the site, the relevant personnel were not sloppy. The batch of vaccines will also be sealed in accordance with the follow-up process.
