After the outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 (CCP virus) epidemic, some people have observed that some people are more susceptible to the virus than others, and some infected people are more likely to have symptoms than others, and there are significant differences in the severity of symptoms among different patients.

According to a report by Japan's "Toyo Keizai", many studies abroad indicate that perhaps the severe illness rate of covid is really related to blood type, and scientists around the world are still studying to find out the reasons behind it.

In March 2020, a research team from Southern University of Science and Technology in China analyzed 2173 confirmed covid cases in Wuhan and Shanghai and found that people with type A are more likely to be infected with the CCP virus, and type O humans are at a lower risk of infection.

Between 6 March and 16 April 2021, Massachusetts General Hospital analyzed 1,289 confirmed patients in Massachusetts, the U.S., and concluded the results are the same as those with blood type O. The probability of a positive diagnosis is low. The same conclusion was reached in a study of 1980 patients in Italy and Spain who experienced the first wave of epidemics after March.

Even published in the academic journal of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) on 14 October 2020, academic papers from Odense University Hospital (OUH) in Denmark and University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada were also published. Among them, the Danish Odense University Hospital team stated that from 27 February to 30 July 2020, a total of more than 470,000 Danes were tested by PCR, and about 41.69% of the Danish population were of blood type O, which accounts for almost half of the population but only 38.4% of the 7,422 positively diagnosed patients are type O blood. It is obvious that type O people are less likely to be infected than people with other blood types.

Another study comes from the University of British Columbia, Canada. Among the 95 critically ill patients who were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Vancouver Regional Hospital from 1 March  to 28 April 2021, the proportion of patients wearing artificial respirators, types O and B constitute 61% of the patients, but up to 84% of the patients have blood types A and AB. In addition, type A and AB are more likely to suffer from renal dysfunction and liver dysfunction during severe illness, and the treatment period is longer than those with blood types O and B.

On the other hand, there are related cases regarding the difference in the incidence of disease and severe illness rate of blood type. For example, Type O is less likely to suffer from SARS, and it is also difficult to become severe after getting malaria. However, it is not yet possible to understand the reasons for the differentiation of covi in blood types but looking forward to the development of medical research in the future, perhaps the blood results report can also be used to help treat patients.
