Czech House of Representatives Speaker Adamova led a delegation of 160 people to Taiwan, and today went to the Presidential Palace to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen. Tsai Ing-wen said that in 2020, under repeated pressure from China, the Czech Senate President Vedziz insisted on leading a delegation to visit Taiwan to carry out cross-field cooperation for the two sides. Support is also an important milestone in the progress of Taiwan-Czech relations.

Tsai Ing-wen expressed that she welcomes the delegation led by Adamova to visit Taiwan. The delegation includes 160 members of Congress from across parties, officials from different ministries and commissions, and representatives from all walks of life. It is the largest since Taiwan and the Czech Republic established offices. In August 2020, despite repeated pressure from China, Senate Chairman Vedziz still insisted on leading a delegation to conduct cross-field cooperation for the relationship between the two sides. Strong support is also an important milestone in the development of Taiwan-Czech relations.

Tsai Ing-wen said that after the Czech presidential election in January this year, she had a phone conversation with the president-elect Pavel. They both believed that the two sides would strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields in the future on the basis of the existing good interaction. A lot of progress has been made. Gong Mingxin, chairman of the 2021 National Development Council, led a delegation to visit the Czech Republic. The two parties signed a memorandum of cooperation on green energy, smart machinery and other industries. We have launched cooperation plans with us in various fields, and the Central and Eastern European Financing Fund we have established is also expected to promote more cooperation between bilateral companies.

Tsai Ing-wen emphasized that both Taiwan and the Czech Republic have experienced authoritarian rule, and they both know that democracy is not easy to come by. Therefore, on the road of adhering to democracy and freedom, they can become each other's firm partners. The country can carry out more extensive cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, science and technology, culture, and regional security, jointly strengthen the unity of the democratic camp, and contribute more to the promotion of regional peace and stability.

The "Czech Hub in Taiwan"was unveiled on 27 March 2023. Markéta Pekarová Adamová, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Czech Republic, Jakub Janda, Executive Director of the Center for European Value Security Policy, Pavel Divis, President of the Czech-Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, and Li Chun, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, jointly announced the start of operation. Companies, academic institutions, start-ups, cultural institutions and NGOs in the Czech Republic and Taiwan provide a new platform for cooperation.

The "Czech Hub in Taiwan" was established with the joint support of the Czech think tank European Value Security Policy Center (EVC) and the Czech-Taiwan Chamber of Commerce. According to Marcin Jerzewski, Director of the Taiwan Office of the European Value Security Policy Center (EVC), the logo of the "Czech Center in Taiwan" combines images representing the Czech Republic and Taiwan, including the heart-shaped leaves of the Czech national tree linden tree and the highest peak in Taiwan Yushan, as well as the number eight, convey the belief that this center will link the people of the Czech Republic and Taiwan in the pursuit of excellence in unity.

In her speech, Adamova said that the relationship between Czech Republic and Taiwan has a long history. After the President of the Senate visited Taiwan two and a half years ago, the Czech Republic believed that a stronghold should be established to assist technology companies, think tanks and other institutions to carry out activities in Taipei. Adamova said that the establishment of this center is very important, as a platform for Czech and Taiwanese partners in various fields to gather, it will serve as a bridge between Czech Republic and Taiwan. Thanks to the cooperation between the Center for European Value Security Policy and the Czech-Taiwan Chamber of Commerce. Combining European political and security expertise and the Chamber of Commerce’s personal network, She believes it can create a new situation for the challenging international trade environment.

Adamova emphasized that the Czech Republic's goal is to become Taiwan's best friend in Europe, and she also hopes to inspire other countries to establish similar centers in Taipei to strengthen relations with Taiwan. The project of this center is non-governmental in nature but it has received the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic has also participated in it. Adamova expresses her gratitude for this.

Li Chun mentioned that the relationship between Taiwan and Europe has undergone major changes in the past 3 to 5 years, especially during the Russia-Ukraine War. European countries have discovered that excessive economic dependence on totalitarian countries will bring high uncertainty, and they are also aware of the structural issues of doing business in China. In recent years, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia and other countries have warmed up relations with Taiwan, as well as the German Ministry of Education and Research, which visited Taiwan last week, all reflect that European countries do not want to be monopolized by Beijing, and hope to be more diverse and free and democratic around the world instead of State intervention in a market economy.

Li Chun said that under this trend, Taiwan is of course one of the important choices for cooperation. Taiwan is a democratic and free country, and it also has industrial strength recognized by the world. Although it is difficult to predict how the official relationship between Taiwan and European countries will break through in the future, what can be guaranteed is that there will be more and more opportunities to deepen and broaden cooperation with Taiwan.

Adamova also accepted media interviews. Regarding Czech President Pavel's desire to meet with President Tsai in person, what is the current plan? Is it possible for Adamova to invite President Tsai to visit Europe as speaker? Adamova said she was visiting on behalf of the Czech parliament and was not in a position to respond to questions about the president's itinerary. She is very happy and looks forward to meeting President Tsai in the afternoon, but generally speaking, it is not polite to release information to the media before opening an invitation. She hopes everyone will wait patiently.

Chen Chien-jen , Premier of the Executive Council, received the visiting delegation of the Speaker of the Czech House of Representatives, Edamova, on 27 March 2023. In terms of tourism and business, it can promote direct exchanges and interactions between the two peoples. He mentioned that the Taiwan-Czech Economic Cooperation Conference will be held in Taiwan four years later, through exchanges between non-governmental enterprises, bilateral economic exchanges will be expanded and substantial benefits will be created.

Chen Chien-jen said that although the distance between Taiwan and the Czech Republic is more than 9,000 kilometers, the two sides have developed a friendship because of their ideas. After the election results were announced in January, the new Czech President Pavel spoke with President Tsai Ing-wen on the phone. He affirmed the values of freedom, democracy, and human rights shared by both sides, deepened bilateral cooperation, and demonstrated the spirit of democratic partners to cherish each other and support common prosperity.

Chen Jianren emphasized that Taiwan and Czech not only has frequent high-level interactions, but has recently strengthened cooperation at the levels of economy and trade, science and technology, health care, culture, and education, and signed cooperation memorandums on smart machinery, network security, and green energy. After the outbreak, The two countries jointly issued a joint statement on epidemic prevention cooperation, held forums, exchanged medical resources, and cooperated in the fight against the epidemic. In September last year, he received a delegation from the Education, Science and Culture Committee of the Czech Senate to exchange views on epidemic prevention and medical cooperation.

Adamova also pointed out that one of the main purposes of this trip is to express friendship and support for Taiwan. The Czech Republic tries to maintain good relations with everyone, but countries that have launched unprovoked aggression against neighboring countries are not even willing to openly aggress people who call wars, people who invade neighboring countries without moral restraint for special interests, "how can good relations be maintained?"

Adamova said that the Czech Republic can only establish friendly relations with like-minded partners, which is logical. Taiwan is such a partner. The two sides share universal values, such as the protection of human rights, civil liberties, and tolerance of democracy as a tool for international relations.
