Lufthansa German Airlines plans to provide passengers with rapid and effective coronavirus testing before they board intercontinental flights. In order to promote the development of the company's long-distance travel business, the airline said that they are trying to obtain a set of testing equipment that can provide accurate virus test results within 15 minutes, and the test price is 10 euros. Such virus testing will be carried out on some flights to the US and will be implemented in October, but the specific date will depend on government approval. The Lufthansa Group said in a statement that they are negotiating with multiple airports in North America.
Lufthansa Group's senior director of product management, ground services and digital services, Bjoern Becker, said that due to the limited supply of test equipment, the company is considering providing this service to first-class and business-class passengers in the early stages of implementation of this regulation. The International Air Transport Association calls on airlines to reinvigorate people’s willingness and confidence to fly by providing virus testing, and to inject the required impetus into the air travel industry. Lufthansa’s move is precisely to international air transport. The response to the association’s initiative.
The virus test results provided by airlines can be used as a substitute for quarantine regulations in various countries and regions. For example, Germany requires people entering from high-risk areas to be isolated for 14 days. Representatives of the air transport and travel industry said that although these regulations can help curb the spread of the virus, they have dealt a serious blow to the air travel industry.
