There are no firm conclusions about the epidemic source of the novel coronavirus in Wuhan. Both the Wuhan Huanan Seafood Market and Wuhan Institute of Virology have been referred to as the sources of the virus. A recent paper published by a professor at South China University of Technology revealed that the Wuhan Centre for Disease Control (WHCDC), not far from the seafood market, had also studied bat viruses, and researchers had been attacked by bats and splashed with blood and urine from bats. They had self-isolated. Some people think that the professor may have disclosed another source of the 2019-nCoV virus, but others suspect that this is a blind eye method thrown by the China Communist Party (CCP) to protect Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Professor South China University of Technology Xiao Botao recently published a report entitled "Source Possibilities of Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)" on a scientific paper sharing website.

The report cited a medical journal study stating that 27 of the 41 people infected in Wuhan were associated with Wuhan Huanan Seafood Market, and 33 of the 585 samples collected from the seafood market were detected with 2019-nCoV. In Wuhan, in addition to the Wuhan Institute of Virology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (P4), which has attracted outside attention, that is studying the coronavirus carried in bats, the laboratory of WHCDC which is only 280 metres from the seafood market has also conducted research related to bats.

Allegedly, WHCDC laboratory research project procedures include taking tissue samples from caged animals to extract genetic sequencing, and discarding the samples and contaminated materials the improper way may also trigger the Wuhan virus outbreak.

The report quoted previous official data as released by the CCP that WHCDC had captured 155 bats from Hubei Province, including chrysanthemum horseshoe bats (or Rhinolophus bats) and 450 bats from Zhejiang Province. Experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) pointed out that the covid outbreak in Wuhan may originate from bats, especially Rhinolophus bats.

The report also specifically described two accidents mentioned by WHCDC's researchers in interviews in 2017 and 2019: An interviewed researcher revealed that he had been attacked by a bat, and his blood was spilled on his skin. On the other hand, he knew he was likely to be infected and quarantined himself for 14 days. There were researchers who were splashed with bat's urine and then quarantined themselves for 14 days, and even researchers found live ticks in bats and were worried.

In addition, Xiehe Hospital near WHCDC was also the first local hospital in which doctors were infected with novel coronavirus in this outbreak.

The paper also mentioned another laboratory about 12 kilometers away from South China Seafood City, Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, referring to the laboratory that had previously studied the relationship between bats and SARS, and the coronavirus on bats. There is speculation that the virus may have leaked from this laboratory.

The paper was deleted shortly after it was published, and it is currently unavailable on scientific paper sharing sites.

It is understood that Xiao Botao, the scholar who wrote the report, has a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and is currently a professor and doctoral supervisor of Biological Sciences at South China University of Technology. He has worked at Harvard Medical School, and has collaborated with Northwestern University in the United States. He has received several National Natural Science Funds.

It is worth noting that Wu Yuanbin, Director of the Department of Social Development and Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Communist Party of China, said at a press conference of the Joint Prevention and Control of the State Council on 15 February that the Ministry of Science and Technology issued the "Guiding Opinions on Strengthening the Biosafety Management of High-level Virus Microbiology Laboratory of Novel Coronavirus" , stressing the need to strengthen the management of laboratories, especially viruses, to ensure biosecurity. Wu Yuanbin also said at the meeting that researchers have initially ruled out the relationship between the novel coronavirus and known poultry and livestock, and suggested that bats are the most likely source of novel coronavirus pneumonia / COVID-19 / covid.

Hong Kong specialists in infection and infectious diseases, Zeng Qiyin, told Apple Daily that it is now generally believed that the source of covid is wild bats, but the intermediate host is still unknown. It is difficult to explain why only the game of the seafood market is infected with the virus, while those not of the same origin or the game meat from the same shipping lot has viruses. At present, the possibility that the virus intermediate host is related to the laboratory cannot be ruled out, and the Beijing authorities should investigate in the relevant direction.
