As the pandemic rages, the earliest source of novel coronavirus in this epidemic remains a mystery. Recently, a biology professor Xiao Botao from Guangzhou pointed out that the source of the virus may come from Wuhan Centre for Disease Control (WHCDC). At the same time, new confirmed cases were reported on 16 February 2020 in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan, and countries continue to withdraw their nationals from China.

Recently, a number of China media disclosed that Xiao Botao, a professor at South China University of Technology in Guangzhou, published a paper titled "Possibilities of a New Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Source" on 6 February 2020 on the global academic social website Research Gate (a non-authoritative academic journal).

This report in English pointed out according to researchers at the WHCDC located less than 300 meters away from the Wuhan Huanan Seafood Market, which was the source of the outbreak virus, had earlier been splashed with blood and urine from bats that had been used for research, in 2017 and 2019. They had self-quarantined for 14 days after the laboratory unfortunate incidents. In addition to the WHCDC, the paper also stated that the Wuhan P4 virus laboratory may be the source of the virus, but there is little evidence to prove it is so. This paper is no longer available online.

The taxi-driver who died of covid in Taiwan

At the same time, the virus continued to spread around the world, deaths were exposed. The Taiwan Central Epidemic Epidemic Centre announced on Sunday two new covid cases. One of the patients has died. The patient was a 61-year-old man from central Taiwan who drove a "white card" taxi. He had no China travel and contact history. After his death on 15 February, the diagnosis was confirmed. Another infected person was a family member. Up to now, there have been 20 confirmed cases in Taiwan.

Five more confirmed cases in Tokyo

Japan has also reported more cases of covid. On 16 February, in Tokyo, Japan, five new cases of covid were added, three of which were related to taxi drivers confirmed on 13 February 2020.  There are another 70 new confirmed cases on the Diamond Princess cruise ship docked in the port of Yokohama. They have been isolated for 14 days. The infection is clustered and the infection rate of the whole ship is nearly 10 per cent.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met with medical and scientific experts Sunday to discuss measures to control the spread of novel coronavirus.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe vowed, "The government will consider the medical and scientific advice at this expert meeting and take proactive measures and further measures without being bound by practice."

Abe also confirmed that passengers on the Diamond Princess cruise ship will be allowed to leave the ship on Wednesday after a final medical examination.

One confirmed case in Hong Kong on 16 February 2020

Hong Kong health authorities confirmed Sunday that another person was confirmed to be infected with the virus in the city.

The Hong Kong Centre for Health Protection said that the patient lived in Taikoo City. He went to a private doctor four times after the illness appeared, and was confirmed after two visits to the emergency room. The patient had been to church before and after the illness. Authorities are tracing those close to him.

To date, one person has died from the virus in Hong Kong. To curb the spread of covid, restaurants in Hong Kong have stepped up their efforts to improve hygiene.

A restaurant in the Kowloon Bay area of Hong Kong, Time Cafe, has turned some of its waiters into "health ambassadors"  who take temperature checks at the door, shut out people with signs of fever, and promote good hand hygiene. They wear doctor-style robes and regularly remind restaurant staff to wash their hands regularly.

Another restaurant in the Tai Kok Tsui neighbourhood has a transparent plastic partition on the dining table. The measure aims to prevent the spread of droplets that could spread the coronavirus, but some customers have expressed concern.

More countries continue to evacuate diaspora from China in order to avoid the attack of the new crown virus epidemic. Nepal withdrew 175 Nepalese from Wuhan on Sunday. So far, more than 20 countries, including the United States, France, Japan, Canada, and Russia have completed their evacuation operations.
