The novel coronavirus pandemic continues. After Beijing announced the closure of the city on the morning of 10 February 2020, Shanghai has quickly followed up and implemented closed management. At this point, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing, the four major municipalities in mainland China, have all been captured by the epidemic.

According to the report of the Chinese Communist Party Central Television, the Shanghai Municipal Government held a press conference on the prevention and control of novel coronavirus in the city's CDC in the morning of 10 February, and Shanghai officials said at the meeting that as of now, there are more than 13,000 residential communities in the city that have implemented closure management.

For example, security police strictly control the number of entrances and exits of each community and ensure the temperature of each entrance and exit personnel is monitored and registered, and strengthen the persuasion of the homeless and unemployed to leave the communities, quarantine and observe those that have arrived from novel coronavirus-affected areas for 14 days.

Before Shanghai announced the closure of the city, in the morning of the same day, Beijing also issued the "Notice of Epidemic Prevention and Control Strictly Closed Management of Residential Communities", announcing that Beijing had also entered a "locked down" state.

The notice said that Beijing further strictly implements "community closed management". Foreign vehicles and personnel are not allowed to enter, and all public places in the community that are not needed for living are closed. All agencies and enterprises must also strictly strengthen temperature monitoring.

People arriving in Beijing must report their health status and complete registration of personal information. Within 14 days before arriving in Beijing, they should be quarantined at home in accordance with regulations, and they must not go out. Anyone who refuses to accept relevant epidemic prevention measures and constitutes a violation of public security management shall be severely punished by the public security organs.

More than 80 cities in mainland China implemented closed management, with Beijing and Shanghai added to the list. This means that  all parts of China have become infected areas.

So far, the epidemic in Wuhan has lasted for more than a month. At the beginning of the epidemic, the Chinese authorities strengthened the monitoring of the Internet and the media, and arrested eight front-line doctors who alerted the novel coronavirus outbreak, labelled them as "rumour makers" and suppressed civil society.

At the same time, official Communist media lied that the epidemic was "preventable and controllable" and that "human-to-human" transmission of novel coronavirus did not exist, thus covering up the truth and causing the epidemic to spread throughout China and globally.

Regarding the severity of the pandemic, British experts said in an interview on 5 February 2020 that at least 50,000 people in China are infected with coronavirus every day. To make matters worse, the virus spreads at an alarming rate, with the number of infections doubling every five days.

Bloomberg quoted Adam Kucharski, an associate professor of infectious disease analysis, as saying that "if the current trend remains unchanged, the epidemic will reach its peak from mid-February to the end of February."

Kuchaschi said that novel coronavirus still has many uncertainties, and it is not possible to estimate an accurate single value, but the predicted peak infection rate will fall to 5 per cent, and the number of infected people will reach 500,000 people.

A medical expert at The Johns Hopkins University in the United States has published a CAPS report on the speculative model, and the results show that the pandemic could cause 65 million deaths worldwide.
