Singapore has two new cases of community covid on 17 January 2021. They involve a 44-year-old Singapore Police Force administrator and his female family members. The two and the police veterinary assistant and his wife who were diagnosed earlier formed a new infection group. According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, after the veterinary assistant was diagnosed, the authorities started special inspections at the headquarters of the K9 police dog team where he worked. The administrative staff was tested on Friday (15th), and the diagnosis was confirmed the next day, and he was taken to the National Center for Infectious Diseases by ambulance. His serological test was negative, indicating that he may be recently infected. After the administrator was diagnosed, the Ministry of Health contacted a female family member of his age on the same day. She was diagnosed the next day and was sent to Ong Teng Fong General Hospital. Both are Singapore citizens and had symptoms before the diagnosis. The administrative staff felt a dry throat on the 7th of this month, while the female family members had a fever and chills on the 9th of this month, and lost their sense of smell and taste on the 13th, but neither of them sought medical attention. The Ministry of Health therefore reminded those who are unwell, including those with initial or mild symptoms, to seek medical attention immediately and stay at home to prevent spreading the disease to others. There are currently four active infection groups in the local area. Epidemiological investigations are ongoing. All close contacts of the confirmed patients, including family members and colleagues, have also been quarantined. The Ministry of Health will test them before they begin and end quarantine to find asymptomatic cases. The authorities will also perform serum tests on them. There are 30 new cases of covid in Singapore on 17 January. Except for the two community cases mentioned above, the remaining 28 cases were imported from abroad. They had received home notifications or under quarantine after they arrived in Singapore. The number of cases in foreign worker dormitories did not increase. The imported cases include two Singapore citizens, one permanent resident, three dependant pass holders, five work pass holders, two long-term visit pass holders, and one short-term visit pass holder. The remaining 14 people are work pass holders from Bangladesh and India. One of them is a maid. As of noon today, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the local area has reached 59,113. There are still 49 people in hospital for treatment and no one is in the intensive care unit. Another 189 patients who were in good condition but still tested positive were isolated and treated in community facilities, with a total of 238 active cases.
