In the afternoon of  20 January 2021, the Dutch government held a press conference to launch a series of new anti-epidemic measures, including the suspension of flights to and from the UK, South Africa and many South American countries, and requesting people to reduce travel as much as possible. The government plans to implement a curfew across the country.

The Dutch government plans to increase curfew measures in addition to the "lockdown" imposed across the country. The daily curfew will run from 8.30 pm to 4.30 am. The curfew is expected to start on 22 January but it will not be determined until the Congress has discussed and passed it. During the curfew, people are not allowed to go out except for special circumstances such as work, and offenders will be fined 95 Euros.

In addition, the Netherlands has decided to suspend flights to and from the UK, South Africa and more than 10 South American countries from 23 January. Inbound passengers from other countries and regions must provide a negative test for covid within 72 hours before departure. Passengers from high-risk countries and regions must provide a negative test certificate and undergo a rapid test 4 hours before departure.

According to data updated on 19 January by the Dutch Institute of Public Health and Environment, the number of confirmed covid cases in the Netherlands in the past week reached 38,776, a 22% decrease compared with the previous week, but 10% of the cases were infected with the covi mutant.

A KLM spokesperson stated that after the Dutch government implements the new regulations, the airline will suspend all 270 weekly long-haul flights to the Netherlands from Friday (22 January) including daily flights from Singapore.
