Emirates cooperated with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to become one of the first airlines in the world to trial the IATA Travel Pass. Through this mobile app, passengers can manage their itinerary more conveniently and safely according to the information on covid testing and vaccination issued by governments of various countries.

The IATA Travel Pass will create a "digital passport" for Emirates passengers to verify that their pre-departure testing and vaccinations meet destination requirements. Passengers can also share testing or vaccination information with airlines and authorities on the application. Throughout the journey, passengers can use this application to seamlessly digitally manage all travel documents.

Before the application is fully promoted, Emirates will conduct the first phase of the pilot trial in Dubai to verify the COVID-19 PCR test before the passengers depart. The first phase of the pilot trial is expected to start in April. Emirates passengers departing from Dubai can share their COVID-19 test results directly with the airline on the application before arriving at the airport, and the check-in system will automatically update relevant information.

Emirates Chief Operating Officer Adel Al Redha said, “International travel still maintains its previous security posture, but due to the current pandemic, new regulations and travel requirements will continue to be introduced. We are cooperating with IATA to implement this innovative solution safely and efficiently upload travel information required by governments of various countries to the airline system in a digital and convenient way. This solution helps to optimize the passenger experience and help us meet the travel needs of passengers conveniently and quickly , We are honored to be the first airline in the world to pilot this program."

Nick Careen, Senior Vice President of IATA Airports, Passenger Transport, Cargo and Security, said, “We are honored to cooperate with Emirates to implement the IATA Travel Pass in the Middle East. As this A project partner, Emirates, with its extensive global user base and route network and schedules, will provide us with valuable opinions and feedback to help further improve the travel pass initiatives. This is our purpose to promote international travel during the epidemic. The first step is convenient, so that people have confidence in meeting the various entry regulations of various governments for the prevention and control of covid. With the reopening of borders, we will further enhance its functions to meet the needs of governments in the SARS-CoV-2 detection or vaccination. In terms of verification requirements, Emirates passengers will be the first beneficiaries of these services."

In the IATA Travel Pass App, the "Global Health Requirements Register" module allows passengers to accurately understand the travel information and entry requirements of all destinations around the world, regardless of where they depart; "Global Testing/Vaccination The "Central Register" module will make it easier for passengers to find testing centres and laboratories that meet the destination testing and vaccination standards at the point of departure.

The laboratory and testing centre authorized by the platform can also send test results or vaccination certificates to passengers securely. The "Global Register" managed by IATA will manage and ensure the safe transmission of important information among stakeholders in order to provide passengers with a smooth travel experience.

Emirates is committed to providing passengers with a comprehensive and seamless travel experience. In the past few months, in order to provide passengers with a smoother airport experience, Emirates has launched a number of smart contactless travel initiatives, including Dubai International Airport (DXB)’s integrated biometric channel, self-service check-in and baggage delivery kiosks etc.
