A man in Deyang, Sichuan, returned to his hometown from Wuhan, where SARS-CoV-2 (CCP virus) originated. He was subsequently diagnosed and infected two other people. On 1 September 2020, he was sentenced to 2 years in prison, triggering public opinion and attention. On 1 September, the Jingyang District Court sentenced Guo to two years’ imprisonment for “the crime of obstructing the prevention and control of infectious diseases”. The epidemic broke out in Wuhan in December 2019. The authorities strictly sealed relevant information and arrested whistleblowers of the epidemic, which caused the virus to spread rapidly across the world.

As of 4 September, the number of infections worldwide has exceeded 26 million, and the death toll has exceeded 860,000, but so far no CCP official has been held accountable.
