On Monday (5 October), some top international epidemiologists in the United States put forward the latest initiative, calling for the reopening of society and the restoration of Western lifestyles.
On Tuesday, on the Fox News "The Ingraham Angle" program, Dr. Martin Kulldorff, a top international epidemiologist from Harvard University, announced that his team had already on Monday morning published an initiative. As of 3.30 am Eastern time on Tuesday, more than 1,000 medical and public health scientists, more than 1,100 medical professionals, and more than 16,000 ordinary people have signed the initiative.
Dr. Kurdoff told the host Laura Ingraham that most experts in the field of infectious diseases favor risk-based strategies or age-based strategies, in which older people or other high-risk groups get priority protection while young people should more or less return to normal life.
The initiative is deeply concerned about the destructive effects of the CCP virus on physical and mental health, and suggests adopting a method called “Focused Protection”, which is to allow people with the least risk of death to live normally, enhancing immunity to viruses through natural infections, while better protecting people at high risk levels.
Scientists say that the current lockdown policy is having a devastating impact on public health in the short and long term. For example, lower childhood vaccination rates, worsening cardiovascular disease, fewer cancer screenings, and worsening mental health will all lead to extremely high mortality rates in the coming years. It is very unfair to let students drop out of school. For children, the CCP virus is less dangerous than flu and many other diseases.
The initiative pointed out that continuing lockdown measures will cause irreparable damage to society, and the damage to the poor will be disproportionate. Before getting herd immunity, mortality and social harm should be minimized. Low-risk young people should work normally, and schools and universities should be open to face-to-face teaching.
Dr. Sunetra Gupta of Oxford University and Dr. Jay Bhattacharya of Stanford University very much agree with Kurdov’s point of view and are committed to finally achieving that even the elderly and the sick can safely get rid of the blockade.
Contrary to what the scientists did, on Sunday, New York City Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio requested that New York State be allowed to close all non-essential industries in the nine zip codes where the CCP virus cases have soared, and schools and industries deemed not necessary to open will also be closed.
On Monday, Governor Andrew Cuomo approved part of the plan, one day earlier than the closing date requested by De Blasio.
The parents are miserable, and they have to face the difficulties and pressure brought about by the closures of the schools again. Data from the US CDC show that infants, children, and adolescents account for approximately 5% of all confirmed cases and 0.06% of all reported deaths. Children spread the virus at a lower rate than adults.
