New Ulaanbaatar International Airport "Chinggis Khaan" officially opens on 4 July 2021

According to Magnificent Mongolia and Montsame, the New Ulaanbaatar International Airport "Chinggis Khaan" officially opens on 4 July 2021. The first international flight is operated by MIAT Mongolian Airlines and the route is Chinggis Khaan - Narita. The new airport code is UBN.

Chinggis Khaan is reserved only for international flights while Buyant-Ukhaa, previously known as Chinggis Khaan International Airport, now only operates domestic flights.

MIAT Mongolian Airlines' Head Office remains at Buyant-Ukhaa.

Chinggis Khaan, managed by a Japanese team for 15 years, is connected to Ulaanbaatar by airport bus and the journey takes 80 to 100 minutes. The new airport is about 50 km away from Ulaanbaatar.

Bus stops include Ulaanbaatar Railway Station, Narantuul Market and West Bus Terminal.

Buyant-Ukhaa, retaining the airport code ULN, is 18 km away from Ulaanbaatar.

According to Montsame, the Japanese Government took part in the development project of UBN as well as relocation plan development, runaway maintenance, fuel supply maintenance, management of airport leases and pricing strategies together with Japan International Cooperation Agency.
