Vaccine.gov.sg should simplify the application for vaccination on behalf of foreign workers in Singapore
Recently, the Ministry of Manpower of the Singapore Government has encouraged foreign workers in Singapore to get vaccinated. Employers can apply for vaccination on behalf of their workers at vaccine.gov.sg. An employer followed the route and applied for his foreign domestic worker's vaccination on behalf of the FDW. To be eligible for priority vaccination, the applicant has to download and fill in a consent letter form.
The consent letter form is astonishing. It only has options for child or ward. What is ward? What is Local Proxy? Hardly anyone understands the terms. There is no space to indicate foreign worker.
At the back of the form, it is stated the applicant has to access the Vaccination Information Sheet and "COVID-19 Vaccination Form 1" at https://go.gov.sg/visp, print and complete them.
The employer discovers the Vaccine Information sheet and "COVID-19 Vaccination Form 1" apply to Comirnaty and not other vaccines. Filling those documents is waste of time. These documents are in English and many words are scientific terms that the incumbent vaccinator need to read and declare. The employer finds it hard to explain to the FDW those terms. These information is related to Pfizer-BioTech vaccine/Comirnaty only. Other vaccines do not apply.
After submission of application for vaccination on behalf of the FDW, the FDW is approved for priority vaccination. She can select to be vaccinated with either Moderna or Comirnaty. The employer selects Moderna vaccination at Kebun Baru Community Centre. Not many vaccination centres at community clubs offer Moderna vaccination.
If the Government wishes to encourage people who are new and do not have handphone access to get people to apply for vaccination on their behalf, the consent letter form and Vaccine Information Sheet should be removed.
People can choose to be vaccinated with Moderna and in the future with other new covi vaccines such as CoronaVac, AZ vaccine and Novavax. People will waste lots of paper and money printing those forms and vaccine information sheets if they did not know these documents are unnecessary.
