The epidemic situation in China has not ended. The CCP not only tried to cover it up, but recently held a high-profile "anti-epidemic commendation conference" to declare the so-called "victory in the fight against the epidemic." One can see in the CGTN video, the attendees did not let down their defence against SARS-CoV-2. With the exception of those getting their honours and medals and the CCP officials on the stage, the CCP officials sitting down are all masked.

On 8 September 2020, the CCP held the so-called "National Commendation Conference for Fighting the Pneumonia Epidemic" in Beijing. Li Keqiang, Premier of the State Council of the Communist Party of China, chaired the meeting. Xi Jinping awarded medals and honours to the commended persons and gave an 80-minute speech.

At this so-called "commendation conference", Xi Jinping once again promoted the so-called "victory against the epidemic" and said that "the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and the advantages of the system" are the "key to success." In the 80-minute speech, Xi Jinping mentioned a total of 31 "struggles", and described the fight against the epidemic as "war against the epidemic" and "people's war".

Among the VIPs commended by the authorities at the Chinese Communist Party's anti-epidemic conference, Zhong Nanshan, head of the senior expert group of the National Health Commission of the Communist Party of China received the "Medal of the Republic" while Zhang Boli, president of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Zhang Dingyu, Director of Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital, and Chen Wei, Director of the Institute of Bioengineering of the Academy of Military Sciences received their Honorary Medals from Xi Jinping.  Other attendees that contribute to the anti-epidemic battle including Li Lanjuan and Zhang Wenhong have received honour certificates. In total, 1500 attendees received their medals and honours from CCP officials on stage.

However, the "whistleblower" Dr. Li Wenliang was not mentioned throughout the conference although the attendees did observe a moment of silence in tribute to the victims who died in the epidemic.

Netizens ridiculed the CCP's commendation conference, "The trainer wants to feed peanuts to the animals he raises."

Zhang Boli came up and finalized the integrated Western and Chinese medicinal treatment guidelines for covid while Zhang Dingyu is credited for organizing the quarantine isolation of covid patients in Jinyintan Hospital and carrying out nucleic acid covi detection tests for the first seven patients in China.

This epidemic originated in Wuhan, but because of the CCP’s cover-up and concealment, it quickly spread to the world and brought huge economic and life losses to the world. The CCP not only "has a funeral as a happy event" and boasted "victory in the fight against the epidemic," it also used the epidemic to export medical supplies to seize the opportunity to gain economic benefits and expand its influence.

In addition, although the CCP has repeatedly promoted "success in fighting the epidemic," the epidemic in China has been one after another, and the epidemic is far from over. Globally, the epidemic is also wave after wave without stopping. Experts have warned and prepared for the next wave of epidemics. On the day before the CCP’s "commendation conference," WHO experts also warned the world that the global epidemic has not yet ended, and there is no room for complacency.

The CCP recently held the so-called "anti-epidemic commendation conference" and was criticized for trying to conceal its guilt with celebrations. As the “whistleblower” of the epidemic, Dr. Li Wenliang was naturally “absent” from this conference. However, a large number of netizens flooded into Li Wenliang's last Weibo and spontaneously "recognized" him. Therefore, "Li Wenliang's Weibo Comment" entered the Weibo hot search list.

On 8 September, the CCP held the so-called "National Commendation Conference for Fighting the Pneumonia Epidemic" in Beijing. Xi Jinping personally awarded medals to the commended personnel, and delivered a speech to publicize the so-called "victory against the epidemic" and "the CCP's merits", but did not mention the origin of the virus and the CCP's responsibilities.

The BBC quoted an analysis as saying that the conference was actually a "praise propaganda" for the authorities, while continuing to try to "cover up responsibilities with celebrations."

A large number of netizens were dissatisfied with the CCP's deliberately "ignoring" Li Wenliang, and one after another poured into Li Wenliang's Weibo message to mourn him, commending him spontaneously. Some netizens said, "I'm really sorry, I don't have an honor from you. I only pay tribute to the whistleblower on my own behalf." Some netizens also said, "Dr. Li, look, we all remember you."

At present, Li Wenliang's last Weibo comment has exceeded 1 million, and "Li Wenliang's Weibo Comment" has once entered the hot search list reflecting the real-time hot spots of Weibo.

Li Wenliang is an ophthalmologist at Wuhan Central Hospital. He was called the “whistleblower” of the epidemic because he first issued an epidemic warning in the circle of friends on 30 December 2019. However, he was reprimanded by the police and passed away on 6 February 2020 covid.

After Li Wenliang's death, a large number of netizens left comments on his last Weibo. Its Weibo has been described as a "wailing wall" in China.

"The hardest academician, the most respectable soldier!" This is the slogan printed on the electronic screen of the "House of Academicians" of the Chinese Academy of Engineering on 8 September. In the morning of 8 September, Zhong Nanshan, Zhang Boli and Chen Wei, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, were awarded the Medal of the Republic and the National Honorary Medal at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. In the afternoon of the same day, the Chinese Academy of Engineering held the "Symposium on the Scientific Spirit of Academicians Zhong Nanshan, Zhang Boli, and Chen Wei".

At 1 pm, the front and back of the entrance hall of the "Academician's House" was crowded. People holding "the brightest star in the night sky" and "male goddess" and other cards, holding flowers, waving flags, waiting for the arrival of the three academicians.

At about 2 pm, the cheers of "Welcome the hero is coming!" came from outside the hall. Surrounded by flowers and the crowd, Zhong Nanshan, Zhang Boli, and Chen Wei arrived one after another. When the new crown epidemic raged, the three academicians were "warriors" armed with guns and charged into battle; today, they are heroes who have returned with honor.

At 84 years old, Zhong Nanshan, who is always fitness and sports-loving, is still on his feet. After he sat, he first spoke as the guest representative of the day's symposium, "I feel happy to come back here." Before he knew it, Zhong Nanshan had joined the "big family" of the Chinese Academy of Engineering for 24 years.

In Zhong Nanshan's view, he never expected to be awarded the Medal of the Republic. "This is definitely not for me alone, (but) it is a great recognition and respect for our medical and health circles."

For epidemic prevention and control and future scientific research, Zhong Nanshan also has expectations. He said, "I believe that the academicians of the Academy of Engineering can contribute to the development of our country in the further fight against the epidemic and other fields."

At the symposium, Zhang Boli, sitting on the left side of Zhong Nanshan, was quite concerned about the fall and winter epidemic.

Zhang Boli commented, "To do a good job in autumn and winter prevention and control, and to do a longer-term work in the future, we can't be proud of ourselves." At the symposium, he said sincerely that the winners must cherish these honours and rewards and turn them into strength. Only by doing our best can they repay the love of the party and the country and the love of the CCP people.

After learning that he was awarded the national honorary title of "People's Hero", Zhang Boli once wrote the song "Happiness in Calm and Peace - People's Talent Hero" in one go, "One hundred thousand white garments, the epidemic will be in March. Wuhan is a hero in life and death, and a sweating hero is unique. The central economy has made a living, and the whole country is united. China and the West are united to prevent and cure, and the world is cool and hot."

Among the three academicians, Chen Wei from the Institute of Bioengineering is the youngest and the latest to join the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

"The title of 'People's Hero' is very heavy, and I know it certainly does not belong to me." Chen Wei in military uniform said that this is part of her role as a soldier, and she has also done her duty as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Chen Wei added, "Many shortcomings and deficiencies were exposed during the fight against the epidemic, which also gave us a deeper sense of crisis and a heavier sense of responsibility."

Although the domestic epidemic has been effectively controlled, the number of covid patients worldwide continues to increase, and there is still a long way to go to fight the epidemic.

"People's Hero" Chen Wei: Fighting the epidemic, "There is no choice but to win"

Reporter : Li Chun / Publisher : China News Network via ScienceNet

26 February 2020 is Chen Wei's 54th birthday. On this day, the first batch of recombinant covi vaccines developed by the team she led rolled off the production line. The superiors sent her a birthday greeting, "I replied in only eight words: There is no choice but to win!"

On 8 September, the National Commendation Conference for Fighting the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia Epidemic was grandly held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Chen Wei, the winner of the national honorary title of "Hero of the People", stood on the highest platform of national honor. From shortening the time of nucleic acid testing to developing new vaccines, Chen Wei and his team have achieved a series of important scientific research results, which have made major contributions to China's fight against the epidemic.

On the second day of the Lunar New Year on 26 January, Chen Wei led a military medical expert team to Wuhan urgently to carry out emergency scientific research on pathogen transmission mutations, rapid detection technology, vaccine antibody development, etc., and moved the laboratory to the forefront of the anti-virus battlefield.

In the tent-type mobile testing laboratory of the Academy of Military Sciences, Chen Wei's team quickly built a nucleic acid detection platform, and applied self-developed detection kits with automatic nucleic acid extraction technology, which greatly shortened the time for virus nucleic acid detection and quickly formed a thousand people daily. On the ability of nucleic acid detection, Chen Wei said, "It played a very crucial role in the prevention and control of the Wuhan epidemic at that time."

Although the improvement of nucleic acid detection capabilities has made it "difficult to hide" the virus, the "ultimate weapon" of vaccines is still needed to eliminate the new crown epidemic. On the front line of the fight against the epidemic, Chen Wei led a team to jointly fight with the rear scientific research base and launched an assault on the development of a novel coronavirus vaccine.

On 16 March, the recombinant SARS-CoV-2 vaccine developed by Chen Wei's team was approved to start clinical trials. On 12 April, the vaccine launched the Phase II clinical trial, which was also the world's first covi vaccine variety to enter the Phase II clinical trial at that time. The relevant test results have been published online in the international academic journal "The Lancet".

At present, the vaccine has obtained the national invention patent authorization, and the third phase of international clinical trials is proceeding in an orderly manner. In a recent media interview, Chen Wei revealed that the recombinant covi vaccine can effectively cover the already mutated covid virus.

In addition, Chen Wei's team also discovered the first highly effective neutralizing monoclonal antibody targeting the N-terminal domain of the spike protein, which provides a powerful candidate drug for the treatment of covid, and also provides a new idea for the study of the mechanism of covi. At 10 pm on 22 June, the international academic journal "Science" published the research results online.

"The 18 martial arts accumulated over decades, at this time, it should be said that everything that can be thought of and can be done is used." Chen Wei lamented that the scientific research team has been "raising soldiers for a thousand days, and using soldiers for a thousand days." In the state of, that time she rushed to Wuhan is not the first time she has led a team to deal "hand-in-hand" with a deadly human coronavirus.

When SARS was raging in 2003, Chen Wei and the research team entered the biosafety laboratory overnight to conduct research on the SARS virus. The "recombinant human interferon ω" successfully developed by the team has a good protective effect against SARS virus attacks. A total of 14,000 medical staff used "recombinant human interferon omega spray", and no infection occurred.

In 2014, a large-scale Ebola epidemic broke out in West Africa. Chen Wei led a team to expedition to the African continent and developed the world's first new genotype vaccine to fight Ebola virus, achieving a "zero" breakthrough in overseas clinical trials of vaccines independently developed by China.

SARS, anthrax, Ebola... 29 years into the army, Chen Wei's research objects are all diseases that ordinary people cannot avoid, and are called "devil subjects" by colleagues. It is with the long-term experience of "dancing with the drug" that she and the scientific research team were able to develop a vaccine and put it into clinical trials as soon as possible during the new coronary pneumonia epidemic.

Even so, in Chen Wei's view, the experience of fighting the covid epidemic is still somewhat different from the past. In an interview, she said, "The determination of a team, the confidence in our own technology, and the understanding of domestic and foreign laws and regulations are what makes us today different."

Chen Wei once said that in the field of biosecurity, one has no idea what will happen in the future. In her view, biosafety protection must not only be "pre-existing measures against known diseases", but also "capable of future epidemics." During the National Two Sessions this year, Chen Wei, as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, put forward a proposal to build a national biosafety science and industry innovation center, hoping to quickly benefit ordinary people with innovative achievements in the field of biosafety.

"As a military medical scientific researcher, I especially hope that our scientific research ‘battleship’ can ride the wind and waves and travel steadily and far." Chen Wei said that she and the scientific research team will continue to work hard for this. "This is an honour, but also our responsibility. Only in this way can we live up to this era and our mission."

After being awarded the "Medal of the Republic" Zhong Nanshan "request fight" again

Reporter : Guo Chaokai / Editor : Zhang Yanling / Publisher : China New Network

"I want to call for war because we have (a) desire to continue China’s anti-epidemic work." Zhong Nanshan said so in Beijing.

Zhong Nanshan said that the covid epidemic is only the first stage, and it is far from over. It is necessary to be mentally prepared for long-term coexistence with SARS-CoV-2. "It will probably take several years, even if it disappears." He said that it is necessary to make preparations for diagnosis, treatment, prevention, vaccines and other aspects. The meaning of the fight is to hope that the platform for epidemic prevention and control can be built better.

On the same day, after participating in the National Commendation Conference for Fighting the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia Epidemic, Zhong Nanshan returned to the Chinese Academy of Engineering to participate in the "Symposium on the Scientific Spirit of Academicians Zhong Nanshan, Zhang Boli and Chen Wei" organized by the institute.

At the symposium, Zhong Nanshan sighed that returning to the Chinese Academy of Engineering was like returning home. Since becoming an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1996, he has joined this "big family" for 24 years. Zhong Nanshan said that science and technology played a key role in the fight against the new crown pneumonia epidemic. “We have learned how to use science and technology to guide practice. This is very different from the fight against SARS 17 years ago.”

"I went to more than 30 countries to talk about China's experience and clinical medicine during the year of the fight against SARS. This time I also exchanged with more than 30 countries, not only for experience and experience." Zhong Nanshan said, including the new crown epidemic. Research guidance on laws, mechanisms, disease prediction models, severe disease prediction, animal models, innovative treatment methods, etc.

Zhong Nanshan said that this is the education given to him by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, "Doing research is to be able to transform and be able to guide practice." He mentioned that the spirit of respecting science, respecting facts, and speaking with facts of some old academicians has a profound influence on them.

"In the past ten years, the Academy of Engineering has given me a very important education to pay attention to transformation. Even if I publish an article in the highest academic journal, I have to think more about what guidance this has for medical diagnosis and treatment." Zhong Nanshan pointed out, In the prevention and control of this epidemic, many scientific management ideas were transformed into practice and proved to be very effective, which enabled the epidemic to be quickly controlled.

Looking forward to the future, Zhong Nanshan said that he believes that the academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering can contribute to the development of the country in the further fight against the epidemic and other fields.
